Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a new racing game built around an outlaw Outer Rim circuit, several distinct repulsorcraft classes, and campaign runs designed to be replayed. Early coverage praises its racing and replayability, while flagging a steep challenge, a thin story, limited arcade variety, and occasional concerns about CPU rivals. Those are pre-release judgments, not a settled post-launch consensus: the game is scheduled to launch worldwide on October 6, 2026.
What kind of Star Wars racing game is Galactic Racer?
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is a new title, not a remake of Star Wars Episode I: Racer. Set after the Empire’s fall, it follows Shade, a racer seeking revenge and glory on the unsanctioned Galactic League circuit in the Outer Rim. The New Republic is rebuilding, while syndicates back racers in a competition focused on speed, risk, skill, and strategy.
Official materials describe landspeeders, speeder bikes, skim speeders, and podracers, alongside a solo story campaign and competitive multiplayer. Steam lists single-player, online PvP, and cross-platform multiplayer. Podracers are among the craft types, but the sources available do not establish whether they have a separate standalone mode.
How the racing and campaign play
Different craft, different handling
In an Xbox Wire hands-on preview from June, the writer described three chassis with distinct trade-offs: landspeeders felt heavier and suited to drifting; speeder bikes were faster in a straight line but harder to turn; and skim speeders banked aggressively and demanded more control. These are preview impressions, rather than independently verified handling tests.

Runs through the Galactic Tour
Xbox Wire described the campaign as a three-act Galactic Tour that changes its route choices each time it starts. Players choose branching routes and earn rewards that can be applied to a speeder. The preview also reported aggressive contact between racers, a rechargeable Afterburner, and a more dangerous Ramjet that can overheat.
Meristation’s October 2 pre-release review describes races across planetary routes, including standard races, time trials, and elimination events. Choices between events trade difficulty against rewards. Its reviewer estimated that a successful route took roughly 30–45 minutes; that is one reviewer’s reported play experience, not a guaranteed session length.

What early reviews praise—and criticize
Xbox Wire’s writer reported about an hour of hands-on play across campaign and arcade modes at Summer Game Fest: Play Days. The preview called the game challenging and praised its apparent depth and replayability, cinematic storytelling, and the distinct feel of the chassis. It is a platform-publisher preview, not a broad critical consensus.
Meristation’s October 2 review was strongly positive about the feel of racing, track design, audiovisual presentation, and the replay value of the campaign’s roguelike-style structure. The same reviewer judged the story largely anecdotal, said arcade mode could use more varied challenges, and described occasional moments when CPU rivals seemed to gain implausible speed or land a last-moment shot. These are that reviewer’s criticisms, not confirmed findings about every race or the final release.

Verdict: promising racing, with caveats still to watch
Early coverage suggests a racer with varied craft handling and a campaign built to reward repeat runs. The main reservations in the available review are its story, arcade-mode variety, difficulty, and occasional CPU behavior. Because the game has not yet launched, those impressions cannot establish how the final release will perform or how players will rate it over time.
