Yes, but only for Ubisoft’s specific 4K/60 FPS Ultra target with the upscaler set to Quality. An RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX is not required to launch Star Wars Outlaws, play at 1080p or 1440p, or output a 4K image at lower settings or a lower frame rate.
Ubisoft’s published specifications are performance targets rather than hard compatibility limits. The complete requirements show a much wider range, from GTX 1660-class hardware for 1080p/30 on Low to RTX 4080/RX 7900 XTX-class hardware for 4K/60 on Ultra.
The short answer
- 4K/60 FPS, Ultra, Quality upscaling: GeForce RTX 4080 16GB or Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24GB.
- 1440p/60 FPS, High, Quality upscaling: GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 6800 XT.
- 1080p/60 FPS, High, Quality upscaling: GeForce RTX 3060 Ti or Radeon RX 6700 XT.
- 1080p/30 FPS, Low, Quality upscaling: GeForce GTX 1660, Radeon RX 5600 XT, or Intel Arc A750 with ReBAR enabled.
Therefore, the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX are not the minimum GPUs for Star Wars Outlaws. They are Ubisoft’s highest listed tier for a particular combination of resolution, frame rate, preset, and upscaling mode.

Ubisoft specifies 16GB of dual-channel system memory at every tier and requires an SSD with 65GB of available space. Leave additional room for updates and normal operating-system overhead.
What “4K with the upscaler set to Quality” means
4K output means the game displays a 3840×2160 image. That does not automatically mean the GPU rendered every pixel internally at 3840×2160.
With upscaling, the game renders internally at a lower resolution and reconstructs the image for 4K output. Ubisoft’s highest specification explicitly says “4K, 60 FPS, Ultra” with the upscaler set to Quality. It should not be described as a confirmed native-4K requirement because the published specification does not establish that the internal render resolution is native 3840×2160.
This distinction matters when comparing graphics cards. A GPU may be capable of producing a 4K display signal while delivering a different internal rendering resolution, preset, or frame rate.

Is an RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX the minimum GPU?
No. Ubisoft’s minimum published tier is a GTX 1660, RX 5600 XT, or Intel Arc A750, targeting 1080p/30 on Low with Quality upscaling. The RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX appear only in the top performance tier.
The practical interpretation is:
- A GTX 1660-class PC is aimed at entry-level 1080p play, not 4K.
- An RTX 3060 Ti or RX 6700 XT is the official reference point for 1080p/60 High.
- An RTX 4070 or RX 6800 XT is the official reference point for 1440p/60 High.
- An RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX is the official reference point for 4K/60 Ultra with Quality upscaling.
These are developer-published targets, not independent benchmark guarantees. Actual performance can vary with CPU limits, cooling, drivers, background tasks, game updates, ray-tracing settings, and the selected upscaler.
Ray tracing, DLSS, and Radeon hardware
Star Wars Outlaws uses a demanding modern rendering feature set. Ubisoft highlights ray-traced reflections, ray-traced shadows, ray-traced global illumination, and RTX Dynamic Illumination. NVIDIA also lists DLSS 3.5 with Ray Reconstruction, Reflex, and ray-tracing features for GeForce hardware.
That does not establish that every published GPU tier is a strict ray-tracing requirement. It also does not make an NVIDIA card mandatory. DLSS is an NVIDIA technology; Radeon owners must use the game’s supported AMD or platform-agnostic upscaling options where available.

Ubisoft lists both the RTX 4080 and RX 7900 XTX for its top target, so the official table itself does not say that DLSS is required for 4K/60 Ultra.
RTX 4080 versus RX 7900 XTX
Both GPUs are official choices for the same highest published target, but they are not identical cards. Ubisoft lists the RTX 4080 with 16GB of VRAM and the RX 7900 XTX with 24GB.
That difference means the requirement is not simply “a GPU with 24GB of VRAM.” Architecture, GPU performance, feature support, drivers, and the game’s settings also matter. Conversely, the 16GB RTX 4080 listing does not prove that any 16GB graphics card will handle Ultra 4K.

What about newer GPUs in 2026?
The published requirements name 2023-era GPUs, so they should be treated as a performance reference rather than a shopping list. In 2026, compare current cards by measured Star Wars Outlaws performance, current street price, availability, power requirements, and ray-tracing behavior.
The RTX 5080 is a newer NVIDIA candidate. NVIDIA’s marketplace page lists a 16GB model with a $999 price signal, although it showed as out of stock when checked. It was not named in Ubisoft’s original requirements, so it is not an officially certified replacement for the RTX 4080.
The Radeon RX 9070 XT is a newer AMD option listed on AMD’s product page. Ubisoft has not explicitly certified it as an RX 7900 XTX equivalent for this game. Verify independent, game-specific testing before assuming it matches the older card.
NVIDIA has also announced a Star Wars Outlaws update with DLSS 4 and Multi Frame Generation. NVIDIA’s reported 4K results for RTX 5090 and RTX 5080 systems are vendor test claims under stated conditions, not neutral benchmarks that apply to every PC.

Can your current PC run it?
Check the following before buying a graphics card:
- Windows 10 or Windows 11 with DirectX 12.
- At least 16GB of RAM installed in dual-channel mode.
- A 65GB SSD, plus spare space for patches.
- A GPU tier that matches your intended resolution and frame-rate target.
- A CPU appropriate for that target; the 4K tier pairs the RTX 4080/RX 7900 XTX with a Core i7-12700K or Ryzen 7 5800X3D.
- Current graphics drivers and game updates.
A high-end GPU paired with a substantially weaker processor may not reproduce Ubisoft’s stated target. Likewise, a single 16GB memory module does not provide the same configuration as 16GB in dual-channel mode.
Ways to play without an RTX 4080-class upgrade
- Choose 1440p or 1080p. Ubisoft’s lower tiers are substantially less demanding than its 4K target.
- Lower the preset. Ultra is part of the RTX 4080/RX 7900 XTX target; it is not required for the game to be playable.
- Use the built-in upscaler. Ubisoft’s own targets use Quality upscaling.
- Target 30 FPS. The official minimum tier is built around 1080p/30 on Low.
- Upgrade selectively. If the CPU, RAM, SSD, power supply, and case are adequate, a GPU-only upgrade may be enough. Otherwise, calculate the cost of the whole platform.
- Consider cloud streaming. NVIDIA says Star Wars Outlaws is available through GeForce NOW on supported devices. Availability, ownership compatibility, latency, image quality, and plan options depend on location and current service conditions.
Steam and Ubisoft account requirements
The game originally launched on PC through Ubisoft Connect on August 30, 2024. Steam lists November 21, 2024 as its Steam release date. The Steam listing provides a shorter minimum/recommended specification: GTX 1660/RX 5600 XT/Arc A750 or better for minimum, and RTX 3060 Ti/RX 6700 XT or better for recommended.
Steam’s “recommended” label is not the same as Ubisoft’s 4K/60 Ultra tier. The Steam version also requires the Ubisoft Connect launcher and Ubisoft account linking.

Bottom line
An RTX 4080 or RX 7900 XTX is the official hardware tier for 4K/60 FPS at Ultra with Quality upscaling in Star Wars Outlaws. It is not a universal minimum for 4K, and it is not required for 1080p or 1440p play. If you already own one of these cards, there is no reason to upgrade merely because Ubisoft lists it. If you are buying in 2026, compare current-generation alternatives and independent game benchmarks rather than paying an inflated price for older hardware.
