You need 12 points for all four candles at Grandpa’s Shrine. The first evaluation happens at dawn on Year 3, but missing the target is not permanent: you can request another evaluation later by placing a Diamond in the shrine.
How many points does each candle require?
Grandpa’s evaluation has 21 possible points. The shrine shows a candle count based on your total score:

The initial evaluation takes place at the start of Year 3 and checks progress from the first two years. You do not need every milestone: any combination worth at least 12 points earns four candles. See the Stardew Valley Wiki’s Grandpa page for the full mechanic reference.
Every milestone and its point value
The detailed milestone table below follows the Stardew Valley Wiki’s split categories. Earnings thresholds accumulate, and the Community Center completion and its ceremony are separate milestones.

How to plan for four candles
Choose a mix of milestones that suit your save rather than treating any single achievement as mandatory. Start by checking cumulative progress and milestones you are already close to.
- Count earnings and skills: total earnings thresholds and total skill levels are independent score opportunities. The earnings milestones can contribute up to 7 points.
- Consider the Community Center route: completing the center is worth 1 point and seeing its ceremony is worth 2, for 3 combined. Choosing the Joja Warehouse prevents earning these Community Center and ceremony points.
- Use achievements as separate options: completing the museum collection, catching every fish, and shipping every item each award 1 point; none is required on its own.
- Check keys, relationships, and farmhouse progress: the Skull Key, Rusty Key, friendship thresholds, pet relationship, and marriage plus two farmhouse upgrades each have their own milestone.
The farmhouse milestone requires the kitchen and nursery upgrades; the cellar is not required. The friendship and pet checks are less transparent in the interface: the wiki documents a villager threshold of 1,975 relationship points, slightly below the visible 2,000 points for eight hearts, and a pet threshold of 999 out of 1,000 points. These exact values are game mechanics, not an in-game progress meter; the underlying villager value is not visible in the normal interface.

What happens if you do not get four candles at first?
You can ask Grandpa to evaluate your farm again. Place a Diamond in the shrine to request a re-evaluation; the Stardew Valley Wiki describes the result as occurring the following day, after a game load, or sometimes on the first day of the next season. Once all four candles are lit, interact with Grandpa’s Shrine to receive the Statue of Perfection. The game does not explicitly notify you that the reward is available, so return to the shrine and interact with it after reaching the target. The wiki says the statue produces 2–8 Iridium Ore per day; details are on the Statue of Perfection page.

The shrine’s opening note sets the initial timing: “Wait for my return at the dawn of the 3rd year.” The quoted note is transcribed on the Farm page.
The referenced Stardew Valley Wiki pages were accessed October 4, 2026, and do not specify the exact live game build for every mechanic. If a later game update changes the evaluation rules, the point values or timing may differ.
