Juggernaut Edition is the expanded version of State of Decay 2 now shown on official storefronts. It includes the base game, the Independence, Daybreak, and Heartland packs, and—on the current Xbox listing—Homecoming content. Microsoft announced Juggernaut as a free automatic upgrade for existing owners in 2020, so owners of the original game did not need to buy the edition again to receive that announced upgrade.
What do Standard and Juggernaut Edition mean?
Standard was the original base-game purchase. In its 2020 storefront framing, Microsoft replaced the earlier Standard and Ultimate product labels with Juggernaut Edition. Today, official Xbox and Steam listings present Juggernaut Edition as the game’s edition.

When Juggernaut launched, Xbox Wire said it was a free, automatic upgrade for existing State of Decay 2 owners, including Xbox Game Pass members. That statement describes the announced 2020 upgrade; it does not mean every current way of accessing the game is free. The current Xbox and Steam listings are separate storefront options.
What does Juggernaut Edition include?
The three add-on packs named in the February 2020 launch announcement were Independence, Daybreak, and Heartland. Homecoming came later: it launched on September 1, 2021, and appears in the current Xbox edition description.

The timing matters: Homecoming was not one of the three packs named in the February 2020 launch announcement. It was added later and is included in the current Xbox listing’s edition description; check your platform’s listing for its current content details.
What does Juggernaut add beyond DLC?
Juggernaut is more than a bundle of packs. Microsoft’s launch materials describe a broader update to the game, including the Providence Ridge open-world map, a rebuilt post-tutorial introduction, heavy melee weapons, changes to lighting and foliage performance, separate dodge and stealth commands, gameplay fixes, and additional music.
