If Steam Deck’s Discover app reports “Error pulling from repo”, the problem is usually with Flatpak or its Flathub repository in Desktop Mode—not Steam game downloads. Start by checking the network and clock, then repair both Flatpak installation scopes. If that does not work, inspect and securely recreate the Flathub remote. Do not disable GPG verification as a routine fix.
What the error means
Discover is the graphical software center; it uses Flatpak to install desktop apps and their runtimes from software repositories called remotes. Flathub is a common remote. “Error pulling from repo” is a broad message, not a diagnosis: it can point to damaged local Flatpak data, a malformed remote, unavailable metadata or runtime files, or a network, DNS, TLS, clock, or temporary repository problem.
This usually has nothing to do with Steam’s game-download servers, Steam Cloud, or Proton. Changing Steam’s download region is unlikely to fix a Discover/Flatpak error.

If Discover cannot refresh its catalogue or every app fails, check the remote, network, and Flatpak repository first. Capture the complete error text: the first line can hide a more useful detail, such as a missing content object or an AppStream metadata failure.

Quick fix: check the basics, then repair Flatpak
- Update SteamOS and restart. Install any pending system update, then restart the Deck. This is sensible housekeeping, not a guaranteed fix.
- Check the connection and clock. Confirm that ordinary web pages load in Desktop Mode. If possible, try another network or a phone hotspot. Temporarily disconnect a VPN or proxy, check for a captive-portal login, and make sure automatic date and time synchronization is enabled.
- Open Konsole in Desktop Mode and run these commands one at a time:
sudo flatpak repair
flatpak repair --user
flatpak updateThe first command repairs the system-wide Flatpak installation and asks for administrator authentication. The second repairs the separate per-user installation; Flatpak supports both scopes, so repairing only one may not address a problem in the other. The final command refreshes repository information and updates installed Flatpaks. See the Flatpak command reference for details on repair and installation scopes.
When Konsole asks for a password, it needs the Linux user password—not your Steam account password. Typed characters do not appear on screen while you enter it. If you have not set a password for the deck user, set one in Desktop Mode’s system settings before using sudo; never share it.
If repair reports that nothing needs fixing but Discover still fails, do not keep repeating the same commands. Check the remote configuration next.

Inspect and, if needed, recreate Flathub
List the configured remotes for both scopes:
flatpak remotes --show-details
flatpak remotes --user --show-detailsLook for a Flathub entry, a plausible official repository URL, duplicate or stale entries, a remote marked no-gpg-verify, or an unexpected difference between the system and user listings. Flatpak documents remote listing and detail options.
If Flathub is missing, malformed, or implicated by a signature error, recreate only the affected Flathub remote from Flathub’s official repository file. The file supplies repository details and its GPG key; this preserves signature verification. The commands below show the system and user scopes separately:
sudo flatpak remote-delete --force flathub
sudo flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepoflatpak --user remote-delete --force flathub
flatpak --user remote-add --if-not-exists flathub https://dl.flathub.org/repo/flathub.flatpakrepoUse the user-scope pair only if you have a user-level Flathub remote to repair. Do not remove every remote indiscriminately. A remote deletion may prompt about apps or runtimes associated with it; read the prompt rather than accepting removals blindly. Remote reset is not the same as uninstalling apps, and you should not choose options that delete app data unless you intend to erase it. Afterward, close Discover completely and reopen it. If necessary, restart the Deck, wait for the catalogue to repopulate, and try one app.
Use the full error to choose the next step
“GPG verification enabled, but no signatures found”
Do not turn off verification for the normal Flathub remote. This message can accompany an incorrect or stale remote, corrupted metadata, a network or TLS interception problem, or a temporary repository issue; it does not prove that signatures should be disabled. Check the remote details, recreate Flathub from its official repository file if needed, check the clock, and test another network.
Flatpak provides a --no-gpg-verify option, but it disables a security check. Using it for Flathub can mask a bad URL or an untrusted response rather than fix the underlying cause. The safer path is to restore the correctly signed remote.

“Couldn’t find file object” or a missing runtime object
This more strongly suggests an incomplete transfer or missing/corrupted repository content than a simple key problem. Run both repair commands and flatpak update, then retry. If the same object is still missing, preserve the entire message—including any object identifier—and consider the network or a temporary repository-side problem before deleting local data.
“Error updating appstream,” missing AppStream metadata, or Discover stuck at 0%
AppStream metadata feeds Discover’s catalogue. A failed catalogue refresh, runtime download, local object, stale Discover process, network issue, or temporary Flathub/CDN problem can all leave a download apparently stalled. Run flatpak update in Konsole to get a more detailed error. If it points to metadata, confirm the remote, restart Discover, and retry; Steam’s game-download settings are not relevant.

First check both remote listings again. You may be targeting the wrong scope, or installed apps and runtimes may still refer to that remote. Use the system form with sudo or the user form with --user as appropriate. Do not force-delete unrelated repositories.

Find out whether Discover or Flatpak is failing
Test repository search and, if it works, an install directly in Konsole:
flatpak search firefox
flatpak install flathub org.mozilla.firefoxReview the search result and confirm the app ID before installing; IDs can differ between apps, and this example is not a claim that Firefox is present by default. Flatpak documents the general search-and-install workflow.
If the command-line install succeeds but Discover fails, Flatpak and the remote are likely working, so restart Discover or the Deck and focus on the graphical catalogue/backend. If the search or install fails with the same repository error, continue investigating Flatpak, the remote, network, or system clock. If just one app fails, test another before treating the whole repository as broken.
Fixes to avoid
- Do not disable GPG verification for Flathub as a quick workaround. Restore the official signed remote instead.
- Do not run
sudo pacman -Syuor reinstall Flatpak with pacman as a generic repair. Pacman manages system packages; Discover’s app installations normally use Flatpak. SteamOS is a customized, image-based system, so package-manager advice for a general Arch Linux installation is not automatically appropriate. - Do not run
pacman-key --initorpacman-key --populatefor a Flatpak error. Those commands concern pacman’s package-signing keyring, not Flathub’s Flatpak remote. Consider them only if the complete error specifically identifies a pacman or Arch keyring problem. - Do not delete Flatpak directories by hand or jump to a factory reset. Manual deletion can discard installed apps or data and is not a targeted fix for a repository error.
- Do not install an app from an unverified third-party site merely to get around a Flathub failure.
If the error remains
If repair and a correctly configured remote do not help, test another network and retry later; a temporary repository or CDN issue is possible. Check available storage if repairs or large runtime downloads repeatedly fail, but do not assume low storage is the cause without supporting output. If the issue started after an SSD replacement, reimage, or factory reset, mention that: the system and user Flatpak installations may not have been initialized or migrated in the same way.
For a support request, collect the full error, SteamOS version, LCD or OLED model, whether the Deck was recently reimaged or had its SSD replaced, and the output of:
flatpak remotes --show-details
flatpak remotes --user --show-details
flatpak updateRedact your username, private paths, network details, and other personal information before posting logs. If you contact Valve or seek help from Flathub, include whether terminal search and installation work while Discover fails.
