Valve announced on May 27, 2026, that the Steam Deck OLED was back in stock in the US, with the 512GB model priced at $789 and the 1TB model at $949. The LCD model is a separate question: Valve’s product page lists a 256GB LCD configuration, but neither that listing nor the OLED restock announcement confirms that a new LCD unit can be ordered through US checkout. Valve’s announcement is clear about OLED; it is not proof that the old low-cost LCD option has returned.
Which Steam Deck models are confirmed back?
Valve’s May 27 announcement specifically says the Steam Deck OLED is back in stock. It gives revised US prices for both OLED configurations. Valve’s product page lists a 256GB LCD alongside them, but a catalog listing is not the same as confirmed, purchasable new US inventory. The available evidence does not establish a stable LCD restock or a return to LCD production.

Valve’s product page lists all three configurations and says the Deck is shipping, but availability can depend on region and can change before checkout. The page’s LCD listing alone cannot establish whether a unit is newly manufactured, leftover stock, refurbished, or unavailable when a US buyer tries to order.
What happened to US stock?
Reports on February 11–12, 2026, said the US Steam store had gone out of stock across the listed LCD and OLED configurations. Tom’s Hardware and PC Gamer covered the shortage at the time. Valve’s subsequent May announcement addressed the OLED return, not a clearly revived LCD program.

Valve attributed the higher OLED prices to increased memory and storage costs and broader logistical challenges. Industry coverage also connected the stock disruptions with memory supply pressures, but that should not be mistaken for Valve confirming a single cause for every model’s availability. Why the LCD listing does not settle the question
There are four different claims that are easy to blur together: a model appears in Valve’s catalog; stock exists somewhere; refurbished stock is offered; or a new unit is actually orderable by a US customer. Only the first is established for the 256GB LCD by the cited product page. Independent reporting said the LCD model had been discontinued or remained unavailable, while refurbished inventory could appear separately. For the purchase decision, verify the specific configuration in the US Steam store while signed in and using a US shipping address. Check that the purchase control works and that the final order screen shows the model, price, delivery estimate, and applicable tax or shipping before treating it as available. A product page or search snippet may lag stock changes, and a listing does not establish production status.

What the OLED premium gets you over LCD
The OLED models are meaningfully different in display and battery hardware, but they are not a wholly separate performance generation. Valve’s specifications show the following differences; they do not establish a universal frame-rate gain in games.

Valve’s battery ranges are estimates that vary with the content being played, not guaranteed playtime for a particular game. The OLED’s strongest case is its larger HDR screen, higher refresh ceiling, larger battery, and newer wireless standard. The 1TB version also includes etched anti-glare glass, a carrying case with removable liner, and exclusive startup movie and virtual keyboard theme. Valve lists the full model specifications.
Are the new OLED prices worth paying?
The price revision is dated May 27, 2026, and applies to the US prices in Valve’s announcement: $789 for 512GB OLED and $949 for 1TB OLED. These are the announced prices after the increase, not the OLED’s original launch prices or a promise that stock remains available at those prices. Valve cited component and logistics costs; the announcement says the hardware itself did not change.

Choose the 512GB OLED if
- You want a new OLED Deck directly from Valve and do not want to depend on uncertain LCD availability.
- The OLED display and larger battery matter more than having 1TB built in.
- You want to spend less than the 1TB price while still getting more storage than the listed LCD configuration.
Choose the 1TB OLED if
- You expect to keep several large games installed and want more internal space.
- You value the etched anti-glare glass and included 1TB-model extras.
- The $160 difference from the announced 512GB OLED price is justified for your use; otherwise the extra capacity may not be worth the premium.
Wait or look at refurbished stock if
- You primarily wanted the former low-cost LCD route and can wait for clearer new LCD availability.
- You are open to previously owned hardware and can accept inventory-dependent models and prices.
Valve maintains an official Certified Refurbished Steam Deck page. Its configurations and prices depend on live inventory, so check the listing directly rather than assuming a particular model or discount is available. A used LCD can also be an option for a buyer focused on the lowest possible cost, but assess the battery, screen, controls, charging, SSD, and account status; marketplace listings do not provide the same direct-purchase protections as ordering from Valve.
What to check before placing an order
- Open Valve’s Steam Deck product page and select the exact model and storage configuration.
- Confirm the store is serving the US and that the selected model can be added to cart while signed in with a US shipping address.
- On the final checkout screen, verify the model, displayed price, delivery estimate, tax, and shipping. Do not rely on a general “shipping now” message or catalog listing alone.
- Review the current return and warranty terms shown for that order, then make sure checkout reaches an order confirmation.
The May restock announcement establishes OLED availability at that point in time; it cannot guarantee inventory on a later visit. The exact present status of LCD and OLED units must be determined from the live US checkout.
