Where to find the Steel Mountains bell puzzle
The puzzle is at the Steel Mountains Ruins in the Steel Mountains, near the Spire of Insight. It is also described as a Mysterious Energy location between the Steel Mountains and Deepwoods, at the northern foot of a small mountain. Look for a board marked with musical symbols beside a group of bells.

How to solve the bells
- Pick up the mallet near the bells.
- Read the symbol board and match its markings to the symbols above the bells.
- Number the bells from left to right across the upper row as 1–4, then left to right across the lower row as 5–8.
- Use the mallet to strike 1–2–3–4–5–6–4–3–2–1. The ascending portion uses only the first six positions.
- Collect the Abyss Cresset after the sequence succeeds.
The board’s symbols are the in-game check on the sequence. If the bell arrangement appears different on your screen, follow the symbols rather than relying only on the numbering.

If you strike the wrong bell
Shacknews reports that leaving the area and returning may reset the puzzle; in the reported case, traveling to a nearby fast travel point worked. This is a possible recovery method, not a guaranteed reset rule. Before trying again, check that you are targeting the intended bell and following the board’s symbols.
