Verdict: The SteelSeries Arctis Nova Pro Wireless is still a strong premium gaming headset in 2026, but it makes sense mainly if you will use its best features: hot-swappable batteries, simultaneous game and Bluetooth audio, and easy switching between systems. Its sound and base station are compelling; its weight, fit-sensitive ear cups, merely useful ANC, and sometimes complicated PC software are real compromises. If you play at one desk, the wired Nova Pro may be better value. If you own an Xbox, choose the Xbox wireless model specifically.
This review distinguishes the Nova Pro Wireless from the separate wired Nova Pro. They are not interchangeable versions of the same setup.
At a glance
- Best for: Multi-platform players who want a base station, simultaneous 2.4GHz game audio and Bluetooth, and a battery system that avoids ordinary charging breaks.
- Less suited to: Comfort-first buyers, people seeking class-leading ANC or a streaming microphone, and anyone who wants a simple headset without desktop software.
- Wired or wireless? Choose wired for a fixed desk setup and no battery upkeep; wireless for multi-device convenience and battery swapping.
- Xbox warning: The Xbox Wireless model has a dedicated Xbox port. Do not assume the PlayStation/PC model offers the same Xbox functionality.
- Value: It launched at $349.99 in North America. That is not a current price; at a substantial discount, its unusual connectivity and battery system are easier to justify. PC Gamer listed it around $220 in a 2026 buying guide, a market snapshot rather than a guaranteed live price.
SteelSeries’ newer Arctis Nova Pro Omni is now another premium option. The older Wireless remains worth considering if discounted and its particular features suit you, but it is no longer the automatic choice for every premium-headset buyer.
Know which Nova Pro you are buying
The wired Arctis Nova Pro comes with the GameDAC Gen 2, a desk control unit for source selection, EQ and audio controls. It avoids battery management but keeps you tethered. Its North American launch MSRP was $249.99.

The Arctis Nova Pro Wireless adds a Wireless Base Station, 2.4GHz wireless, Bluetooth, active noise cancellation (ANC), transparency mode and two hot-swappable batteries. Its North American launch MSRP was $349.99. SteelSeries advertises up to 22 hours per battery; actual runtime varies with settings and use.
Wireless versions also differ by platform. SteelSeries says each has two USB system connections, but only the Xbox model has a dedicated Xbox port. The other version is intended for PC, PlayStation, Switch, Mac and compatible devices, but is not a substitute for the Xbox model’s native connection. Sound: detailed and adjustable, not a universal ideal
For games, the Nova Pro Wireless presents detail and positional cues well, with a closed-back design that keeps the listening experience organized. How convincing footsteps or directional effects sound still depends on the game mix, your platform settings, fit and EQ. The headset does not make every game’s spatial audio better by default.
SteelSeries GG’s Sonar software offers a 10-band EQ, game profiles and other PC controls. A footsteps-focused preset can bring quiet cues forward, but it can also make music, ambience and explosions less natural. Treat presets as starting points, not guaranteed competitive advantages; compare them in the games you actually play.

For music and films, the headset is versatile enough to serve as an all-purpose gaming-and-listening option, particularly if you value Bluetooth alongside game audio. Sound preference is personal: bass and treble balance, source, connection mode and EQ all affect the result. Bluetooth is convenient for a phone, but it is a separate connection from the base station’s 2.4GHz gaming link. Buyers seeking a dedicated audiophile headphone should compare those options on their own merits rather than assume a gaming headset is a direct replacement.
The wired model’s GameDAC setup is a different product experience, and a positive impression of one version should not be taken as proof that the other sounds categorically better. Independent measurement coverage such as RTINGS’ Nova Pro Wireless review separates performance by connection and platform.
Wireless, Bluetooth and the base station
The Wireless Base Station is the hub that makes this headset distinctive. It provides controls for volume, source selection and chat/game balance, shows status information, and charges the spare battery. Two USB system connections let you attach compatible devices and switch between them without moving the headset’s main connection cable. The wireless link to the headset is 2.4GHz; Bluetooth can connect a phone or another compatible device at the same time, so you can hear mobile audio alongside game sound.
That arrangement is useful for taking a call or listening to a phone while playing. It also means there are more levels to manage: device volume, headset volume and the relative balance of the two audio sources. Bluetooth is best treated as the secondary channel, not assumed to be the lowest-latency mode for game sound. The base station needs desk space and suitable USB connections, and the headset’s full feature set varies by platform. PC users get the most routing and customization options; console users should not expect every Sonar feature or Windows ChatMix behavior to carry over natively.

The dock is a genuine convenience if you switch systems or rely on its controls. If you play on one console or PC and rarely touch EQ or source switching, it is extra desk hardware and setup complexity you may not need.
The battery system: excellent convenience with one condition
One battery powers the headset while the second charges in the base station. When the active battery runs low, swap it for the charged one. SteelSeries advertises up to 22 hours per battery, not a guaranteed runtime; volume, ANC, Bluetooth use, microphone activity and other conditions affect battery life.
It can feel like continuous play because swapping avoids waiting for a conventional recharge, but only if the spare is charged and you actually change it. Forget to dock the spare and the advantage disappears. You also need to keep the charging base on your desk and consider the availability of replacement batteries over the headset’s lifetime. If you routinely charge a headset overnight and play shorter sessions, this system may be less valuable to you than its feature list suggests.
Comfort and fit are the biggest personal risk
The Wireless model weighs about 11.9 ounces according to Tom’s Guide. Its suspension-style headband and substantial feature set make it feel like a full-size premium headset rather than a lightweight option. Weight, clamping pressure, heat and ear-pad fit matter more over a long session than a spec sheet can settle; glasses and head shape can change the experience too.

- International products have separate terms, are sold from abroad and may differ from local products, including fit, age ratings, and language of product, labeling or instructions.
Pay particular attention to the inside of the ear cups. The ANC microphones create an internal protrusion that may press against the ears, especially for people with larger ears or sensitivity to pressure. That can outweigh the benefits of the battery, sound and base station. If possible, buy from a seller with a clear return policy and test it for the length of session you normally play. Do not assume the headband design guarantees comfort.
ANC and transparency: useful extras, not the reason to buy
ANC can reduce some steady background noise, such as fans or air conditioning, and transparency mode helps you hear the room without taking the headset off. Neither feature eliminates every voice, sudden sound or nearby distraction. Independent coverage has described the ANC as imperfect rather than class-leading, and the hardware used for it can also affect ear-cup fit. ANC also draws power.
Buy the Nova Pro Wireless for gaming connectivity and battery convenience; treat noise cancellation as a bonus. If blocking noise is your main goal, compare dedicated premium ANC headphones instead.

Microphone: capable for chat, not a streaming upgrade
The retractable boom microphone is suitable for ordinary party chat and Discord. SteelSeries advertises ClearCast microphone technology and AI noise cancellation through its software. Processing can help manage unwanted noise, but processed voice and raw microphone quality are not the same thing, and aggressive settings can introduce artifacts. The mic is not, by itself, a reason to pay a premium. Streamers, podcasters and people who rely on polished voice audio should consider a dedicated microphone.

SteelSeries GG and Sonar: flexible, with a learning curve
On PC, SteelSeries GG’s Sonar suite adds EQ, game-specific profiles, microphone processing and per-application routing. SteelSeries lists PC ChatMix through Sonar on Windows 10 and later. These tools are useful if you want to tune audio by game or separate game, chat and media sources. They are optional complexity for someone who only wants a headset that works without managing virtual devices and software.
Common PC audio problems can come from routing rather than a failed headset: Windows may change its default playback or communications device, a game may keep using an old output, or Sonar may point a channel at the wrong device. If game or chat sound disappears, work through this checklist:
- Confirm the headset and base station are powered and connected.
- Check Windows’ selected playback device and communications device.
- In Sonar, check the Game, Chat, Media and Microphone assignments.
- Confirm the game itself is using the intended output.
- Restart the game after changing routing.
- Temporarily bypass Sonar to see whether the issue is routing or the headset connection.
- Check SteelSeries GG for firmware updates. Keep the base station directly connected if possible and do not interrupt power during an update.
App labels and menus can change with software releases. User complaints about software complexity or update behavior are anecdotal, not evidence that every owner will encounter a fault. Console players should also remember that PC software features are not automatically available on console.

Neither version is automatically the better-sounding one in every setup. Choose based on connection, controls and habits, not the assumption that wireless is an upgrade in every respect. The RTINGS comparison also treats them as separate products with different connectivity and features.
How it compares with the newer Nova Pro Omni
The Nova Pro Omni is SteelSeries’ newer premium evolution, with current coverage describing expanded connectivity and improvements that include ANC and Bluetooth. It is positioned at a higher price—around $399 in review coverage—so it is not automatically the smarter buy. Check the current feature set, platform support and live price before deciding; do not assume that every Nova Pro Wireless has been discontinued or that Omni’s improvements matter to every player. If the Wireless is heavily discounted and you specifically want its dual-battery workflow, it remains compelling. If you want the newest platform and its expanded connections, compare the Omni directly.
Who should buy it?
- PC gamer who plays at one desk: Consider the wired Nova Pro if you prefer its GameDAC and do not need Bluetooth mixing or battery swapping. The Wireless makes more sense if you will use those features.
- PlayStation owner: The PlayStation/PC Wireless version is the relevant model. Consider whether the base station, phone-audio mixing and battery system justify its price for your setup.
- Xbox owner: Choose the Xbox Wireless model for its dedicated Xbox port. Verify the exact variant before buying.
- Multi-console or multi-device household: The Wireless base station and dual system connections are among the strongest reasons to choose it; confirm that your desired systems work through the specific model and connection method.
- Streamer: The headset mic is fine for chat, but a separate microphone is the stronger choice if voice quality is central to your work.
- Frequent phone listener: Simultaneous Bluetooth and game audio are a meaningful advantage, provided the two-source balance works for you.
- Large-ear or comfort-first buyer: Try the fit before committing. The ear-cup protrusion and weight may be deal-breakers.
- Budget-conscious buyer: Compare a cheaper wireless headset if you do not need hot-swappable batteries, dual-system switching or simultaneous Bluetooth. Do not pay for features that will sit unused.
- Buyer who dislikes desktop audio software: Favor a simpler headset or use the Nova Pro without relying on Sonar’s PC routing features.
Alternatives to consider by need
- Wired desk setup: The wired Nova Pro is the direct alternative if you want GameDAC controls and do not need wireless freedom.
- Newest SteelSeries premium feature set: Compare the Nova Pro Omni’s current capabilities and price against the older Wireless before choosing.
- Lower cost: A cheaper wireless gaming headset may cover basic game audio and chat without the Nova Pro’s base station and battery ecosystem.
- Comfort priority: Look for a lighter headset and, where possible, try it on; feature count is no substitute for a fit that works for your ears and session length.
- PC audio and voice quality: A dedicated headphone plus a standalone microphone can suit a desk setup better than an all-in-one gaming headset.
- Noise cancellation first: Compare a dedicated ANC headphone rather than choosing this headset primarily for ANC.
