The era also marks Makoto Daito’s rise in show business, linking the setting to the game’s music and theater systems.
What 1943 Minami looks like
SEGA describes Minami as a modern entertainment district under the pressure of wartime shortages and restrictions. Bright main streets give way to dim tenements, wooden shopfronts and black-market establishments. Residents wear wartime work clothes, and children help make ends meet. The publisher sums up the atmosphere as “the tension of wartime Japan lingers below the surface, shaped by shortages and oppressive restrictions.”
This is SEGA’s fictionalized depiction, not a claim that the game documents wartime Osaka as it was. Minami is one of several real Japanese locations reimagined for the story as what SEGA calls “a ‘Japan that might have been.’” SEGA’s September 25, 2026 TGS article provides the specific Minami description; its May 7, 2026 announcement explains the broader fictionalized setting.
How the showbiz gameplay works
In Minami, Daito’s story includes his rise as a showman amid the city’s music and theater scene. Showbiz play is described as a continuing part of the story: the player advertises shows, prepares songs, recruits performers and works toward sales targets.

Build and stage a show
- Walk around town to find musical inspiration, then work with composers on songs and arrangements.
- Select singers and stage effects before putting on a performance.
- Mentor and produce more than 10 singers over the course of the game, according to SEGA.
Exploration, dining and entertainment also affect Daito’s stats and skills, making activities around town relevant beyond the show itself. The game offers Easy, Normal and Hard difficulty settings. These are publisher descriptions of intended systems, not independent hands-on findings.
Where Minami fits in the story
