STRANGER THAN HEAVEN takes players to fictionalized versions of two Japanese settings: Kure, standing in for Hiroshima in 1929, and Minami, Osaka’s entertainment district, in 1943. These are locations in SEGA’s imagined game world—not reports of a real-world visit or events taking place in either city.
Which Hiroshima and Osaka locations appear in the game?
SEGA maps the two places this way:
| Game setting | Year | How SEGA describes it | Role in the story |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kure, Hiroshima | 1929 | A naval port and shipbuilding city of steep streets and waterways, where naval culture and entertainment coexist. | A setting after Kokura in the game’s chronology. |
| Minami, Osaka | 1943 | An entertainment district whose theaters and public life sit alongside wartime shortages, controls, and shadowed backstreets. | A later setting where Daido grows into a larger impresario. |
These descriptions are SEGA’s presentation of the settings. The company frames its locations as real Japanese cities used as motifs for an imagined Japan; the official descriptions do not establish that the game is a historically accurate recreation.
What is Kure like in 1929?
In SEGA’s portrayal, Kure’s port and shipbuilding identity shapes a layered cityscape of slopes and waterways. The announcement places naval culture beside entertainment and presents the city as changing with the period. It points to more Western-style clothing among residents and modern fashions among women as signs of overseas cultural influence.
SEGA says activities from the earlier Kokura setting carry over, while Kure adds public baths and tehonbiki, a gambling game. Those are examples named for the game; the announcement does not say that every activity is unique to Kure.

How does Minami in 1943 differ?
SEGA presents Minami as an entertainment district under wartime strain. The setting contrasts theaters and a lively public face with scarcity and controls, as well as dark row houses, wooden shops, and market-like backstreets. The description is about the game’s Minami, not a claim that all of historical Osaka or its residents shared one experience.
The district also connects to Daido’s development as an impresario. The show-business system has players promote performances, choose songs and singers, stage shows, and aim to meet revenue targets. The theaters are therefore part of the setting and a route into the game’s performance-management play.

How do the locations fit the wider story?
STRANGER THAN HEAVEN spans five eras and cities across 50 years, according to SEGA’s May 7, 2026 overview. Its September 17, 2026 city announcement identifies Kokura in 1915, followed by Kure in 1929 and then Minami in 1943. Kure and Minami are two stops in that larger arc, not the game’s only settings.
Do town activities affect gameplay?
SEGA says walking, eating, and recreation contribute to Daido’s growth and skill unlocks, and that seasonal presentation varies by era and setting. Its September 17 announcement names activities in the earlier Kokura section—including arm wrestling, menko, beigoma, fishing, and streetcar travel—then identifies public baths and tehonbiki for Kure. Avoid assuming that every activity listed for one setting is available in the others.

Is the Hiroshima and Osaka demo tour real?
No announced tour should be confused with the fictionalized in-game locations. RGG Studio’s September 30, 2026 notice describes a pre-release hands-on demo tour across 10 Japanese cities and 12 venues, beginning at Yodobashi Camera Multimedia Kyoto on October 11. It says attendees can play the Tokyo Game Show 2026 demo, with a new demo planned from the November 14 Ikebukuro stop onward. The notice’s text does not identify all cities or venues, so it does not establish that Hiroshima or Osaka are tour stops.
