To make a Streamlabs Cloudbot command, enable Cloudbot, open Commands → Custom in the Streamlabs dashboard, add a trigger such as !socials, write the response, set who can use it, then save and test it in chat. Variables are placeholders—such as {channel.name}—that Cloudbot can replace with dynamic information. Their availability depends on where they’re used, so treat examples as a starting point rather than a complete token list.
What are Cloudbot commands and variables?
A custom command connects a trigger—a word or phrase viewers type in chat—to a response sent by the bot. It can answer recurring questions, share your social links, or display channel-related information without you typing the same reply each time.
A variable is a placeholder in the response that Cloudbot replaces with data from chat or the streaming service. Streamlabs describes variables as text replaced with data coming from chat or the service being used. For example, {channel.name} can insert the channel name. Variables are not guaranteed to work in every Cloudbot area; check the relevant command or feature context.
How do I create a custom command?
- Enable Cloudbot. In the Streamlabs dashboard, open Cloudbot and turn it on for the platform you intend to use. The bot also needs the appropriate chat permissions. Streamlabs’ setup guide describes using
/mod Streamlabson Twitch and Kick; for YouTube, it directs creators to YouTube Studio’s Community settings to add Streamlabs as a moderator. Labels and platform procedures can change, so confirm the current instructions in the dashboard and platform. - Open the custom-command editor. Go to Commands → Custom and choose Add Command. You can enter a command yourself or start from an available template.
- Choose a trigger. Use a distinctive command such as
!socials. Commands typically begin with an exclamation mark and are recognized at the start of a chat message. - Write the response. Keep it useful and easy to read in chat. For example:
Follow the channel here: [your channel link]. Replace bracketed text with your own URL before saving. - Set permissions and response behavior. Choose which roles may use the command and whether the response should appear in public chat or be sent as a Whisper, where supported.
- Save and test it. With Cloudbot enabled, type the exact trigger in the relevant channel. If there is no response, check the bot’s permissions, command toggle, role access, costs, and cooldowns.
How do variables and command targets work?
Variables let a response adapt to the channel or to a user instead of returning identical text every time. Streamlabs’ tutorials show these examples:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
{channel.name}— the channel name.{touser.name}— the name of the relevant user. Depending on the command and target argument, that may be the person who called the command or another named user.{touser.followage}— the follow duration for the relevant user.
For a !followage command, the tutorial describes using the command without a target to show the requester’s follow duration, or including a username to look up that person’s duration. These are illustrative examples, not a complete or guaranteed current inventory. Streamlabs’ full variables reference may require login, and some parameters work only in particular Cloudbot sections. Confirm that a token is supported where you plan to use it before relying on it in a live command.
Commands, aliases, and keywords: what is the difference?
- Command: A trigger—commonly an exclamation-mark command—that must be entered at the start of a message, according to Streamlabs’ advanced-settings tutorial.
- Alias: An alternate trigger that invokes the same command. For example,
!followingcan be an alias for!followage. - Keyword: A text match that does not require an exclamation mark or the start of a message, and may include spaces. Because a keyword might match ordinary conversation, choose a distinctive phrase and test when it fires.
Which permissions, reply mode, and cooldown should I choose?
Permissions
Permissions determine which chat roles can trigger a command. Restrict commands when they perform moderator actions or when a reply is intended for a particular group; use broader access for general information such as social links. Available roles and controls can vary by platform and dashboard version.

Chat or Whisper
Chat posts the response publicly. Whisper sends it privately where the platform supports it. Streamlabs’ tutorial described Whisper as Twitch-only when that guide was published; verify current availability in the editor rather than assuming it works on every service.
Global or user cooldown
- Global cooldown: After the command is used, everyone must wait for the configured interval before it can be used again. This is useful for preventing a busy chat from repeating a command too often.
- User cooldown: The person who used the command must wait, but other viewers are not blocked. This can curb individual repetition without limiting the whole chat.
Loyalty cost
A command can charge loyalty points. Streamlabs’ advanced tutorial describes setting costs by role, including moderators, subscribers, regulars, and other users. If you enable a cost, make sure the intended users can earn or hold enough points to use the command.

Why is Cloudbot not responding?
- Cloudbot is off or connected to the wrong platform: Open the dashboard and verify that Cloudbot is enabled for the channel and service where you are testing.
- The bot cannot speak in chat: Check the relevant platform’s moderator or chat-permission setup. For YouTube, older Streamlabs troubleshooting guidance also lists public streams as a condition for the bot to join; confirm that this still applies to your setup.
- The command is disabled or the trigger differs: Check that the individual command is turned on and that you typed its trigger exactly, in the expected position.
- Your account lacks access: Review the command’s role restrictions. If it charges loyalty points, check the configured cost and your balance.
- A cooldown is active: Wait for the global or personal interval to expire, or review the configured duration.
- A variable is blank or incorrect: Confirm that the token is supported in that Cloudbot section and that the command is receiving the target information it needs.
- A timer is not posting on YouTube: Streamlabs’ troubleshooting page, originally published in 2021, lists a public stream and both timer-interval and minimum-line requirements. Because that guidance is older, check current Streamlabs and YouTube instructions before changing settings based on it.
Do Cloudbot commands require dedicated hardware?
No special physical product is required for the documented dashboard workflow: you configure commands and variables in Streamlabs. Streamlabs describes its Kick Cloudbot as free and cloud-based. That is separate from keeping a YouTube channel live 24/7 by continuously playing prerecorded video; a chat bot command setup does not itself provide that video-streaming function.

If your separate goal is to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube, StreamNeo is a cloud service for that task—not a replacement for Cloudbot. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; videos stream as uploaded at any quality up to 4K 60fps for one flat price per slot, and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
