First check which Streamlabs bot you mean: the installed, Windows-only Desktop Chatbot is a legacy app, while Cloudbot is configured from the Streamlabs dashboard. Their setup and troubleshooting steps are different. For the desktop app, it must remain open and connected to stay in chat. For Cloudbot, check that it is enabled, has moderator permission, appears in the viewer list, and can run a command.
Identify which Streamlabs chatbot you use

Streamlabs maintains separate help resources for these products. Use its Cloudbot setup guide for dashboard instructions and the legacy Desktop Chatbot FAQ for the installed app. The desktop FAQ dates to 2017, so treat its interface and Windows repair advice as legacy guidance.
Set up Cloudbot
- Enable it: Open the Streamlabs dashboard and enable Cloudbot for the platform you want to use.
- Give it moderator permission: On Twitch or Kick, type
/mod Streamlabsin your channel chat. On YouTube, add Streamlabs as a moderator through YouTube Studio settings. - Configure what it should do: The setup guide covers default and custom commands, moderation tools, loyalty, and modules. Start with a default command to confirm the connection before adding more configuration.
Exact dashboard labels can change. If the current page differs from the guide, use Streamlabs’ current Cloudbot documentation rather than applying Desktop Chatbot steps to it.
Cloudbot is not joining or responding
Work through these checks in order using Streamlabs’ Cloudbot troubleshooting guide.

- Confirm Cloudbot is on for the correct platform and has moderator permission. If you stream to more than one platform, check the setting for the one where it is failing.
- Check the viewer list. Confirm Streamlabs appears in the channel’s viewer list.
- Test a command. Try a default command or a simple test command to distinguish a connection problem from a custom-command setting.
- Check YouTube visibility. Streamlabs says a YouTube stream must be public for Cloudbot to join and trigger commands. A private or unlisted stream may therefore prevent the expected behavior.
- Try the documented restart. Turn Cloudbot off, wait 2–10 minutes, then turn it back on. This is Streamlabs’ suggested troubleshooting step, not a guarantee of recovery.
Cloudbot commands do not work
Check the command itself before changing other settings:
- Make sure the command is enabled and its spelling and syntax match what you typed.
- Test a default command, or a simple test command without permission restrictions.
- Check whether a permission setting excludes the person testing it.
- Inspect cooldown and points requirements; either can prevent a command from running even when it is otherwise configured correctly.
If the command works for one person but not another, focus on permission and cooldown rules. If no command works, return to the bot’s connection, moderator status, and viewer-list checks.

Cloudbot timers do not post
In the Cloudbot timer settings, confirm the timer is enabled and that both its time interval and chat-line minimum have been met. A timer can be switched on yet remain quiet if either threshold has not been reached. When a line minimum is set, Streamlabs says only chat from the most recent five minutes counts toward it.
Fix legacy Desktop Chatbot commands and timers
The legacy FAQ lists several configuration reasons a desktop command may fail. Because that FAQ dates from 2017, names and screen locations may differ in a current installation.

- Usage destination: Check that the command is set to send its output to the intended destination.
- Cost: If the command costs points, confirm the user has enough.
- Cooldown: Check whether the command is still on cooldown. The FAQ says broadcaster cooldown exceptions do not apply to everyone else, and restarting the bot clears cooldowns.
- Permission: Confirm the person invoking the command meets its permission requirement.
For a legacy timer, Streamlabs says the stream must be live and the bot connected to Streamlabs. If those conditions are met but the timer still does not post, inspect its configured interval and other timer settings in the installed app.
Messages appear in the desktop console but not in stream chat
Streamlabs’ legacy FAQ says this most likely means the bot is connected to the wrong channel. In the Desktop Chatbot, open Connections, select the bot connection, and compare its streamer channel with the channel where you are actually live. Correct the connection if the names do not match.

Desktop Chatbot crashes or will not launch
The launch advice in Streamlabs’ FAQ is historical Windows troubleshooting, not a verified current repair procedure. The 2017 FAQ mentions Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables, running the app as administrator, checking Windows Defender history, and MSI Afterburner or RivaTuner conflicts. Before installing a runtime, changing security settings, or reconfiguring other software, check current Microsoft and Windows guidance and confirm the instructions match your Windows version and the app you installed.
If the app used to work, note any recent Windows, driver, security-software, or application changes before troubleshooting. Avoid downloading runtime installers from unofficial sites or disabling security protections as a general fix.
