Use Streamlabs Desktop’s Highlighter—now called Replay in newer Streamlabs materials—to capture moments during a gaming session, shape them into a highlight reel, export the video, and upload it to social media. Set a capture hotkey and replay duration before you go live; after the session, trim and arrange the saved clips, add any finishing touches, preview, and export.
Before you start: Highlighter is now Replay
Streamlabs’ current product page still calls the feature “Streamlabs Desktop Highlighter,” while its newer Replay guide says Streamlabs Highlighter is now Replay. If you are following current Streamlabs documentation, look for Replay; this walkthrough uses Highlighter where that is the label in the documented editing workflow.
There is also a platform discrepancy in Streamlabs’ official information. The current Highlighter product page describes the feature as free and built into Streamlabs Desktop, listing Windows 10+ and macOS 12+. The Replay guide, last updated September 22, 2026, says Replay is currently supported only on Windows. Check the current product and download information for your Streamlabs version before relying on macOS availability: Streamlabs Highlighter product information and Streamlabs’ Replay guide.
Capture clips during your session
- Open Highlighter in Streamlabs Desktop. Configure a hotkey and choose the replay duration—the amount of recent gameplay the capture should include.
- Go live and capture moments. When something worth saving happens, press the configured hotkey. Repeat for each moment you may want to use.
- Return to Highlighter after the stream. Review the saved clips there. Streamlabs’ newer Replay guide also describes importing clips and other recording workflows; those are Replay options, and availability may depend on the product version.
For the detailed controls and workflow, see Streamlabs’ Highlighter guide, published October 17, 2025.

Turn the saved clips into a coherent reel
Trim each clip to its point
Drag a clip’s edges to remove dead time before the action or after its payoff. Keep enough context for someone who did not watch the original stream to understand what happened; cutting too tightly can make a play, reaction, or joke confusing.
Arrange and curate the sequence
Reorder clips to create a clear progression. Enable or disable clips to include or leave out a moment without losing it from the editing view, and delete clips that do not belong in the reel. A simple structure—quick opening, strongest moments, then a satisfying final clip—can make the sequence easier to follow.

Add transitions and finishing touches
Choose transition types and lengths between clips. Streamlabs’ guide also documents adding an intro or outro and background music. Use these selectively: transitions should help the reel flow, while music and opening or closing material should not distract from the gameplay or make the edit feel slower than the clips themselves.
Preview before exporting
Play the assembled reel and check that trims preserve the action, the sequence makes sense, and transitions and audio work as intended. Adjust clips and preview again before committing to an export.

Choose moments with social viewing in mind
Streamlabs suggests looking for energetic moments, community participation, and unexpected events. Treat these as creative prompts, not proven predictors of reach or engagement: no clip type guarantees that a post will perform well.
- Energetic moments: a clutch play, close finish, or sudden change in the match.
- Community participation: a funny exchange, shared challenge, or memorable chat-driven moment.
- Unexpected events: a surprising outcome, an unusual mistake, or an unplanned reaction.

Export the finished video and post it
- Click Export in Highlighter and choose the export settings that suit your intended use. Streamlabs’ Highlighter guide describes downloading the finished video so you can upload it to your preferred social channels.
- Check the exported file by playing it before posting. Confirm it includes the full intended sequence and that picture and sound are present.
- Upload it to your chosen platform using that platform’s current posting flow. Streamlabs’ newer Replay guide lists export destinations that include a computer, YouTube, Discord, or phone, but those routes should not be assumed to exist in every product version.
The Highlighter guide’s wording is: “Once you are happy with any edits to your clips, click the Export button and choose you desired export settings.”
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is for keeping an uploaded video or playlist live on YouTube 24/7; it does not capture or edit gaming clips. To use it, upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer or home connection left on. Each slot streams your upload as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot, with automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. See StreamNeo for details, or start your free first day.
