First check whether YouTube is receiving the stream
Open YouTube’s live control room or view the broadcast from another device while Streamlabs Mobile is showing a live timer or status. If YouTube has no incoming stream but Streamlabs still appears live, this is different from a broadcast that reaches YouTube and then disconnects.
Streamlabs Support documented a mobile issue in which Disconnect Protection may fail to connect properly to Streamlabs servers, leaving the app appearing live without YouTube receiving the broadcast. This specific explanation applies when Disconnect Protection is involved; it does not explain every mobile disconnection. Streamlabs’ mobile Disconnect Protection guidance describes the issue and workarounds.
Fix the documented Disconnect Protection false-live issue
- Turn off Disconnect Protection: in Streamlabs Mobile, open the menu at the top left, choose Disconnect Protection, and switch it off. Then make a test broadcast and confirm that YouTube receives it.
- Or keep it enabled and turn on Multistream: enable Multistream from your account on Streamlabs.com, then test again and verify receipt in YouTube’s live control room.
These are Streamlabs’ workarounds for the documented false-live behavior. They are not established fixes for an unstable Wi-Fi or cellular connection, or for a stream that reaches YouTube before dropping.

If YouTube receives the stream and it drops
Check upload capacity and stability
Compare the audio and video bitrate configured for the stream with the upload capacity available on the connection. If the combined demand is too high for the connection, reduce the stream bitrate and test again. Streamlabs’ general dropped-frame guidance recommends checking bitrate against upload capacity and restarting network equipment as part of troubleshooting.
A speed test is only a snapshot of the connection at that moment. It cannot establish that upload will remain stable during a live broadcast or rule out packet loss. If drops recur, test under the same conditions you plan to stream in and note whether you are using Wi-Fi or cellular; avoid treating one good speed-test result as proof that the connection is reliable.

Distinguish dropped, lagged, and skipped frames
- Dropped frames point toward network problems, which may involve the connection, servers, or equipment. Streamlabs Support author Kevin’s article, dated April 25, 2025, says dropped frames occur when network issues exist and could be caused by servers or equipment.
- Lagged frames are associated with rendering or compositor overload, often involving high GPU use.
- Skipped frames are associated with encoder overload, often involving high CPU use.
The latter two causes are framed in Streamlabs’ general guidance and may describe desktop workflows; do not apply desktop-only menu instructions to a phone. On mobile, use the distinction to avoid treating every frame problem as a network drop.
Prepare the phone and run a controlled test
- Close other apps before starting the broadcast.
- Turn off notifications to reduce interruptions while live.
- Start a short test stream and check YouTube from another device to confirm that the broadcast is arriving and staying connected.
- If it fails again, note whether YouTube received the stream, whether Disconnect Protection was enabled, your phone model and operating system, Wi-Fi or cellular connection, approximate audio and video bitrate, and whether the failure continued after trying the relevant workaround.
Streamlabs’ mobile streaming guide recommends closing other apps and disabling notifications. If the issue persists, those details make a support request more useful; they are diagnostic information to collect, not stated mandatory requirements from Streamlabs.

What Disconnect Protection does—and does not do
Streamlabs describes Disconnect Protection as a viewer-facing “Be Right Back” screen shown during a connection drop. It is not a repair for unstable connectivity. Streamlabs lists Disconnect Protection as an Ultra feature in its mobile guide, so whether to retain it depends on whether you need that viewer-facing behavior and can use the documented Multistream workaround if the false-live issue occurs.
