For unattended, prerecorded 24/7 YouTube playback, vMix is the more relevant of these two—but it offers basic looping, not a complete broadcast scheduler. Streamlabs Talk Studio is documented as a browser-based studio for hosted live shows and recording; its published documentation does not establish unattended continuous playout. If you want a cloud service built to keep uploaded videos live without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo is the first alternative to consider.
Which one fits a 24/7 channel?
First distinguish three different goals: looping prerecorded video continuously, hosting a live show that happens to run for many hours, and launching separate shows at scheduled times. vMix has documented tools for the first goal. Talk Studio’s published workflow focuses on live sessions with guests, screen sharing, and destination streaming. Neither should be treated as a proven turnkey, unattended 24/7 channel system on the available official documentation.
| Need | Better fit of these two | What the documentation establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Loop prerecorded videos continuously | vMix | Its Playlist and List inputs can loop videos back to back. That is basic continuous playback, not full broadcast scheduling. |
| Run a hosted live show with guests | Talk Studio | It is a web-based live streaming and recording studio with guest and destination features. |
| Schedule a channel lineup by time of day | Neither is established as a complete solution | vMix says it does not support time-of-day scheduling; Talk Studio’s retrieved documentation does not establish unattended playout or scheduling. |
What vMix can and cannot do for continuous playback
Looping videos
vMix’s official guidance describes using a Playlist to loop separate video inputs back to back, or a List input to play videos consecutively and loop; the List can also randomize playback. This can support a simple repeating prerecorded stream, provided the vMix system and YouTube connection remain operating.
Scheduling and automation limits
vMix states, “vMix is primarily designed for live streaming single events and as such does not support time of day scheduling.” In other words, a looping input is not a full television-style schedule with timed program changes. The vendor notes that the third-party open-source “vMix Scheduler” is no longer maintained and may not work with current versions, so it is not a dependable basis for a new 24/7 setup. See vMix’s scheduling guidance.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Windows hardware and operating model
vMix is Windows production software, not a browser-only playout service. Its supported-hardware page lists Windows 10/11 and graphics requirements; the graphics card’s speed affects how many HD cameras, inputs, and simultaneous recording, streaming, and outputs are possible. A suitable PC depends on your resolution and production workload, so there is no honest single specification to recommend without those details. Check vMix’s supported hardware guidance before choosing a system.
Where Talk Studio fits—and where its limits matter
Designed for live sessions
Streamlabs describes Talk Studio as a web-based live streaming and recording studio. Its setup flow lets you select YouTube as a destination and start a live stream; it recommends Chrome or Safari and does not require an application installation. Streamlabs publishes an upload recommendation of at least 5 Mbps, with 10 Mbps for 720p and 20 Mbps for 1080p. These are vendor recommendations, not guarantees of an uninterrupted stream. See Talk Studio Getting Started.
Recording caps are not the same as live-stream caps
Talk Studio’s recording limit is 4 hours per session on Standard and 10 hours per session on Pro. Recording stops at the plan limit while a live broadcast may continue. This establishes recording-session limits; it does not establish a maximum live duration or prove that Talk Studio can run unattended around the clock. Check the current Talk Studio recording guidance.

Plan differences and listed pricing
Streamlabs’ Talk Studio plans page lists the following prices and features; these can change, so confirm the current terms before subscribing.
| Plan | Listed price | Published features relevant here |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | $9/month or $90/year | 720p, one destination, up to five guests, recording up to four hours per track. |
| Pro | $17/month or $145/year | 1080p, unlimited destinations, up to eleven guests, recording up to ten hours per track, 30-day recording storage, custom RTMP destinations, and disconnection protection. |
The plan page’s “unlimited” destination wording does not establish unattended 24/7 prerecorded playout. The published recording caps remain relevant if you need saved session recordings. See Talk Studio plans.
YouTube connection setup
Streamlabs says YouTube channel verification steps must be completed before selecting recording or streaming through Talk Studio. Its destination article says that after going live for the first time, you should wait 24 hours before going live to that channel through Talk Studio. Follow the current directions in Talk Studio Streaming Destinations, since this workflow may change.

Connecting vMix to YouTube
- Make the channel eligible. YouTube says a channel must be verified and must not have had live-stream restrictions in the previous 90 days. Confirm current eligibility and limits in YouTube’s live-streaming help.
- Create or select the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, set the stream details and obtain the server URL and stream key, or use YouTube’s Live Stream Now workflow where appropriate.
- Enter the destination in vMix. Follow vMix’s current YouTube Live workflow to configure the stream details and key. Its guide explains both setting details in YouTube Studio and reusing a stream through Live Stream Now: How to stream to YouTube Live.
- Preview before going live. Verify the incoming video and audio in YouTube’s stream preview, then start the broadcast from the configured workflow.
- Monitor the actual stream. YouTube recommends continuously monitoring audio and video quality and checking local archive integrity. A loop or connection setting does not remove the need to watch for playback, encoder, and platform problems; consult YouTube’s live-streaming tips.
Use the stream key as a credential: do not publish it or share it with people who should not control the broadcast. YouTube’s encoder instructions explain server URLs, stream keys, and archiving at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Archives, channel eligibility, and 24-hour runs
YouTube says, “All streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived.” That rule is specifically for streams under 12 hours; do not assume a 24-hour stream receives the same automatic archive treatment. If keeping a complete copy matters, verify the local recording and inspect the archive rather than relying on an assumed platform archive.
YouTube’s live-stream help also lists limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These platform rules can change, so check YouTube Help before designing a multi-stream setup. Continuous streaming still needs operational monitoring, including checking picture and sound and confirming that recordings are intact.

Cost and operating trade-offs
Talk Studio’s listed subscription prices are shown above; the right plan depends on whether you need its guest, resolution, destination, and recording features, not merely a long broadcast. vMix requires a Windows production PC that stays on and has hardware appropriate to the inputs and outputs in use. The available evidence does not establish a vMix edition or PC specification for an unspecified channel workload.
For prerecorded playback, compare the total operating model: a local production PC gives you direct control but depends on that PC, its power, and its internet connection staying available; a cloud playout service avoids leaving a home machine running but has its own service and plan terms. Whichever route you choose, budget time for monitoring and content-rights checks.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo is the cloud option to try first for an always-on YouTube stream of uploaded videos: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so nothing has to stay on at home. The upload streams as made up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, automatic recovery is included if YouTube drops the stream, and the first day is free with no card.

Common problems and what to check
- The video does not repeat. Confirm that the correct vMix Playlist or List input is set to loop and that the intended files are in the playback sequence.
- The stream will not start in Talk Studio. Check YouTube verification and restrictions, then follow Streamlabs’ current destination workflow, including its stated wait after the channel’s first live session.
- Talk Studio recording ends before the live show. The recording may have reached the plan’s session limit; the broadcast can continue even when recording stops.
- You expect a 24-hour YouTube archive and cannot find one. YouTube’s automatic archive statement applies to streams under 12 hours. Verify local recordings and archive status directly.
- Playback or audio quality degrades during a long run. Check the encoder output, source playback, internet connection, YouTube preview, and local recording; YouTube advises continuous monitoring of audio and video.
- vMix performance is unstable under load. Reassess the PC’s graphics capability against the number of HD inputs, cameras, recording tasks, and outputs. vMix’s hardware guidance does not support a universal spec detached from workload.
Copyright and monetization are separate from uptime
A technically continuous stream is not automatically permitted or monetizable. Before looping game footage, music, commentary, or other creators’ material, make sure you have the rights and permissions needed for the content and check YouTube’s current policies. A long-running stream can still face claims, restrictions, or monetization review; none of the tools above grants content rights.
