StreamVoodoo and OBS Studio solve different problems. StreamVoodoo connects remote participants and provides separate audio/video feeds; OBS is free, open-source software for building scenes, mixing sources, recording, and streaming on your own computer. What StreamVoodoo does—and what OBS does
StreamVoodoo: remote people and separate feeds
StreamVoodoo describes itself as a browser-based service for connecting multiple high-definition video feeds with studio-quality sound. Its FAQ lists Duo rooms for two concurrent connections, Cinco for five, and Switcher for up to ten; these are vendor-documented plan details, not independent measurements, and may change. In practical terms, it is useful when people joining from separate locations need to contribute feeds to a production. Participants join a named room, allow camera and microphone access, and receive an invite link. The FAQ also describes video resolution and bitrate controls, codec choices, and studio-audio settings. Those are product descriptions, not a guarantee of a particular result on every participant’s device or connection.
OBS Studio: production on your computer
OBS Studio is free and open-source software from the OBS Project. It captures and mixes sources into scenes for recording and live streaming. Listed sources include window captures, images, text, browser windows, webcams, and capture cards; OBS also provides transitions, an audio mixer, filters, and support for plugins and scripts. Unlike a cloud room service, OBS runs on your computer. Its performance depends on the machine, encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Which should you choose?
Choose StreamVoodoo when the hard part is bringing in people remotely
If guests or collaborators need to join from different locations, StreamVoodoo’s rooms and separately usable feeds address that production need. Its FAQ documents room sizes of two, five, and up to ten concurrent connections for Duo, Cinco, and Switcher respectively; check the current plan details before choosing, since those vendor specifications can change.
Choose OBS when you want to build and control the production locally
If you need to arrange local sources into scenes, control transitions and audio, record, or stream from your own computer, OBS is the direct fit. You retain local production control, but the computer must handle the workload. A compatible system alone does not ensure a smooth stream; encoding, output settings, and scene demands matter. The OBS Project’s requirements guidance is dated August 25, 2021, so consult it as baseline guidance rather than a guarantee for a particular setup.

Use both when you need remote feeds and a local production desk
StreamVoodoo and OBS are not mutually exclusive. StreamVoodoo says a Magic Link can be added to OBS as a browser source, letting you bring a remote participant’s feed into a scene and manage the wider production in OBS. This combines a remote-contributor workflow with local scene control; it does not turn OBS into a cloud service or remove participants’ device and network requirements.
Set up a StreamVoodoo feed in OBS
- Join the room. Open the StreamVoodoo room and allow the browser to access the participant’s camera and microphone. Share the room invitation with each contributor.
- Get the individual Magic Link. StreamVoodoo describes each Magic Link as an individual feed with sound. Use the feed you want to bring into the production.
- Add it in OBS. In the OBS scene where the guest should appear, add a Browser source and use the Magic Link as its feed URL. The precise OBS dialog labels can vary by version; StreamVoodoo’s FAQ establishes browser-source compatibility but does not specify a version-specific OBS setup sequence.
- Check the scene and audio. Confirm that the feed appears in the intended scene and that its sound is routed as required in your OBS mix. StreamVoodoo describes individual feed quality and volume controls; adjust those alongside your local scene and audio settings.
- Test before going live. Check picture, sound, and sync with the actual participant devices and networks. StreamVoodoo recommends Ethernet for its highest video-quality settings. For Studio Sound, it recommends headphones because unprocessed microphone audio can pick up speakers and create a feedback loop.
Practical limits and common problems
- A participant cannot be heard or seen: confirm that the browser has camera and microphone permission and that the participant joined the intended room. Verify their device inputs before troubleshooting the OBS scene.
- A Magic Link does not appear as expected in OBS: confirm that the correct individual feed link was added as a Browser source and that the source is visible in the active scene. The FAQ confirms this workflow, but does not specify troubleshooting steps for every browser or OBS version.
- Video quality is inconsistent: check the participant’s connection and the service’s available resolution and bitrate controls. StreamVoodoo recommends Ethernet for its highest quality settings; that recommendation does not guarantee a particular result.
- Echo or feedback occurs with Studio Sound: have the participant use headphones, as StreamVoodoo recommends, to reduce speaker audio being picked up by the microphone.
- OBS drops frames or struggles to encode: reduce the workload by adjusting resolution, frame rate, encoder choice, or scene complexity, then test again. OBS performance depends on those choices and the computer; basic system compatibility is not proof the machine can sustain your target production.
Pricing and what is established

OBS Studio is described by the OBS Project as free and open-source software. That does not make local production cost-free in every case: the computer and network still need to support the production you choose, and the available sources do not establish a hardware budget for your setup.
