If a scheduled prerecorded stream has no sound, start by playing the exact video file you uploaded. A prerecorded stream uses audio already in that file; changing your microphone settings will not restore a track that was silent at export. Then test the StreamYard output and YouTube playback separately to find where the audio disappears.
1. Check the video file you scheduled
Play the same file selected for the StreamYard broadcast on your computer. Listen for the intended audio and check that the player is not muted and the volume is audible. This is the fastest way to separate a silent source file from a problem later in the streaming path.
- If the file is silent: return to the original edit or export, confirm the intended audio track is present and enabled, and create a corrected file. A microphone choice or studio control cannot add sound to an already-recorded silent video.
- If the file plays with sound: keep that known-good file and move on to a test of the StreamYard-to-YouTube path.
StreamYard’s prerecorded-video guidance recommends re-encoding when a video is not working as expected, but its settings are compatibility recommendations—not proof that a particular setting caused your audio problem. StreamYard’s video optimization guide
2. Make a compatible copy if encoding may be the issue
StreamYard names HandBrake as a tool for preparing a compatible video. If the source plays locally but the scheduled stream is silent, or the file otherwise behaves unexpectedly, try making a new copy with the following recommended settings. Reopen and play the exported copy locally before using it to replace or reschedule the video.

| Setting | Recommended value |
|---|---|
| Container | MP4 |
| Video encoder | H.264 (x264) |
| Frame rate | Constant 30 fps |
| Audio codec | AAC |
| Audio/video alignment | Align A/V Start |
| Web optimization | Web Optimized / faststart |
| Total bitrate | Below 10,000 kbps |
StreamYard’s help article describes a maximum prerecorded-video bitrate of 10 MB/s, also written there as 10,000 kbps, and recommends reducing files above that threshold. The article’s bitrate limit concerns the video upload; AAC is the audio codec, while H.264 (x264) is the video encoder. These recommendations may help with file compatibility, but do not establish that bitrate or codec is the cause of a silent stream. See StreamYard’s optimization instructions.
3. Test the StreamYard output and YouTube playback
If the rechecked file has audio, isolate the next stage without broadcasting to your audience. StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream help page describes using a recording or test workflow; YouTube also lets you check a private or unlisted test before a public broadcast. Listen to the resulting playback and note the first point where sound is missing.

- Use a private or unlisted YouTube test, or a recording test, with the known-good video.
- Play the result and check the YouTube player’s mute state and volume. These are basic playback checks, not a confirmed diagnosis for every silent-player problem.
- If the test recording has sound but the YouTube playback does not, focus on the destination playback or connection rather than changing the original audio track.
StreamYard’s prerecorded-stream workflow and current notes are in its help center. Its prerecorded videos use prior studio settings for resolution, but resolution is not a likely direct explanation for a missing audio track. StreamYard also notes that prerecorded streams are no longer automatically saved to its library; retain the original file and check the destination video if you need a copy. The YouTube link is created at the scheduled announcement time, or when the stream goes live if no announcement is scheduled. Workflow and plan limits can change, so check StreamYard’s current help page for details.
4. Use microphone troubleshooting only for live capture
If the missing sound is from a live microphone or guest—not from the audio track in the prerecorded video—check the live audio path separately:

- Confirm the intended microphone is selected in StreamYard and use its audio test.
- Try Chrome or Firefox and temporarily disable browser extensions that may interfere.
- StreamYard says its audio recording is optimized for a 48,000 Hz (48 kHz) sample rate.
- Use headphones if speaker output is feeding back into the microphone; this addresses echo or feedback during live capture, not a missing prerecorded track.
For these live-audio checks, see StreamYard’s guidance on audio and video optimization and audio troubleshooting.
5. Separate connection errors from audio faults
A connection error is a different symptom from a successfully delivered stream with no sound. If StreamYard reports a YouTube connection error, its connection guidance suggests refreshing, checking the internet connection, restarting the browser or device, reviewing extensions and firewall, proxy or VPN settings, and reconnecting the YouTube account where appropriate. Those steps address connection problems; they do not prove why audio is absent when the stream reaches YouTube.
