Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsIf StreamYard says a YouTube broadcast has an invalid stream key, first check whether that destination actually uses a key. If it does, copy the current key from the intended stream in YouTube Studio and update the key saved for the StreamYard destination; check the server URL separately. If StreamYard connects to YouTube through account login instead, there may be no key to refresh. YouTube’s general encoder guidance covers encoder errors, but the exact StreamYard message and current StreamYard controls are not documented in the sources here.
First identify the YouTube connection type
YouTube broadcasts can connect through an encoder configured with a stream key, or through third-party software that signs in to YouTube without using a key. The fix depends on which path your StreamYard destination uses. Don’t assume there is an editable key field in every connection mode.
- Stream-key connection: You can compare the key for the intended YouTube stream with the value configured for the encoder or destination.
- Account-login connection: There may be no key field to refresh. YouTube directs users on this path to the third-party software’s support team. YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting guide describes both paths.
Refresh the key if the destination uses one
- Open YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room. Select the stream that StreamYard is meant to broadcast to, then open its Stream tab. Check that you have selected the intended stream, not a different scheduled or ongoing broadcast.
- Copy the current stream key. YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance says to copy the key from Live Control Room and paste it into the encoder. Treat the key as a credential: YouTube describes stream keys as like a stream’s “password and address,” because they direct the encoder where to send the feed and allow YouTube to accept it. Keep the value private. YouTube Help: Troubleshoot your YouTube live stream · YouTube Help: Manage live stream settings.
- Update the value used by the actual StreamYard destination. Change the key saved for the destination used by this broadcast, if that connection exposes a key setting. YouTube advises updating the encoder after obtaining the current key. StreamYard’s exact current interface and reconnect steps are not established here, so consult its current controls or support rather than relying on guessed menu names.
- Check the server URL separately. The YouTube server URL and stream key are distinct settings. Make sure the URL is in the server URL field and the key is in the key field wherever the connection presents separate controls. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe entering both values. YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
Check whether the key was reused or reset
YouTube’s “Reuse settings” option copies the previous stream’s metadata, settings, and stream key. A new stream created that way may therefore use the prior key rather than a newly generated one. If you reset the key, update the encoder or destination with the new value. YouTube says only a channel owner or manager can reset a stream key. Manage live stream settings.
Don’t mistake a stream-health error for a key error
If YouTube receives a feed but reports that it is unhealthy, read the exact message and its timestamp next to the Health Indicator in Live Control Room. YouTube’s error guide covers other ingest and health issues, including format, bitrate, audio, video, keyframe frequency, and resolution. Those diagnostics are separate from a credential rejection; an unhealthy-feed message alone does not establish that the key is invalid. YouTube Help: Live streaming error messages.

- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
When to contact support
- StreamYard signs in to YouTube directly: YouTube says to contact the third-party software provider, since this path may not use a stream key.
- You use a key, refreshed it, and checked the URL: If the destination still fails, contact StreamYard support for the current destination reconnect workflow. The available YouTube guidance does not establish StreamYard’s exact interface or diagnose a StreamYard-specific fault.
- YouTube shows a health or ingest message: Use the exact timestamped Live Control Room message to follow the relevant YouTube error guidance instead of repeatedly changing credentials.
Or let it run in the cloud
