Why Street Fighter 6 is the easier first recommendation
Modern controls reduce the input barrier
Street Fighter 6 has three control types: Classic, Modern, and Dynamic. Capcom says Modern uses simple button combinations for special attacks and is available in Fighting Ground, Battle Hub, and World Tour. You can choose it to get started without committing to it forever: Classic controls remain available in those modes too. Capcom’s control-type guide describes Modern and Dynamic as options intended to improve accessibility for first-time players and people returning to the series.
There are several ways to learn the game
Capcom describes World Tour as a single-player story mode, Fighting Ground as the home of the core fighting modes, and Battle Hub as a place to meet and play against others. Its product page also lists training mode and real-time commentary. That gives a newcomer options beyond jumping straight into matches against other players. See Capcom’s Street Fighter 6 product page.
Dynamic has a specific, offline role
Dynamic controls are intended for quick, casual offline play and are limited to certain Fighting Ground modes. They are not the choice to make if your aim is to use one control type across the game’s online and single-player modes. For a beginner who wants a straightforward control option in more settings, Modern is the more broadly available choice. Capcom Support explains the mode limits.

What makes 3rd Strike appealing—and demanding
Parrying rewards anticipation and timing
3rd Strike is a strong first pick if you specifically want to experience its classic feel and distinctive parry mechanic. Capcom designer Tomoshi Sadamoto explains that a player can attempt to nullify an incoming upper attack by pressing toward the opponent, or a lower attack by pressing down, as the attack arrives. This makes defense an active timing decision rather than simply a matter of holding away from the opponent. Read Capcom’s explanation of parrying.
That signature mechanic is also why the game may be a steeper introduction. The cited explanation makes clear that the input must be timed to the incoming attack; it does not establish a direct, overall difficulty ranking between the two games. Choose 3rd Strike because that style of defense interests you, not because the evidence supports calling it universally harder.
