styles.dll is generally an application file associated with Corel’s “Styles engine,” not a Windows component. When styles.dll is missing or cannot load, repair the program that calls it instead of copying a replacement into a Windows system folder.
Identify the program before repairing anything
The filename alone does not identify one universal product. Public file records commonly attribute styles.dll to Corel Corporation, but the exact Corel product and installation path cannot be established from the basename alone. An older Microsoft Publisher-related file listing also contains STYLES.DLL, so confirm the owning application first.
Check these places:
- Read the complete error dialog. Note the application name and whether it names
styles.dll,vcruntime140.dll,msvcp140.dll, orucrtbase.dll. - Look at the shortcut you used to start the program. Right-click it, select Properties, and read Target.
- Open Task Manager with
Ctrl+Shift+Esc. If the program starts briefly, right-click its process and choose Open file location. - Check Event Viewer. Press
Win+R, entereventvwr.msc, and press Enter. Open Windows Logs → Application, then inspect errors recorded at the time of the failure. - Record the full path expected by the program. A private application DLL normally belongs beside the program executable or in one of its own subfolders.
Do not assume that a file found in C:WindowsSystem32 or C:WindowsSysWOW64 is the correct copy. styles.dll is not established as a Windows System32 or SysWOW64 component.
What the known file records tell you
The public attribution is useful for identifying the likely application family, but third-party catalog records are not an official Corel file manifest.

Do not select a loose file because its version looks newer. The correct architecture and build depend on the application that installed it. A 32-bit Corel application needs its 32-bit application files even when Windows itself is 64-bit.
Fix 1: Repair the application that owns styles.dll
This is the safest and most likely solution when a Corel application reports the error.
Repair CorelDRAW or another Corel suite
- Close all Corel applications.
- Press
Win+R. - Enter
appwiz.cpland press Enter. - In Programs and Features, select the Corel suite.
- Click Uninstall/Change.
- Choose Repair.
- Follow the installer prompts and restart Windows if requested.
- Launch the same Corel application again.
A repair operation restores missing or damaged files from the original installation source. It also gives the installer an opportunity to restore the correct 32-bit or 64-bit build and its dependencies.
If the repair option is unavailable, asks for installation media, or ends with an error, use the original Corel installer or the official Corel distribution used to install the program. Uninstall the affected suite, restart Windows, and install it again. Do not delete the application folder first, because doing so can remove uninstall data and configuration needed by the installer.
Repair a Windows-managed application
For an application listed in Windows Settings:
- Press
Win+I. - Select Apps → Installed apps.
- Find the affected program.
- Select the three-dot menu beside it.
- Choose Advanced options.
- Click Repair.
- Test the program.
Use Reset only after Repair fails. Reset may remove application data or settings. If neither option is available, reinstall from the application’s original installer, launcher, or vendor distribution.
Verify the repair
The repair worked if the original program opens without the styles.dll message and its main features function normally. If the same error returns immediately, check antivirus history and the application’s update or installation logs before repeating the repair.
Fix 2: Check whether antivirus removed the file
Security software can quarantine a legitimate application file after an update, cleanup operation, or malware-removal action.

In Windows Security:
- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Review entries created when the application stopped launching.
- Expand an entry that refers to the Corel installation or
styles.dll.
Restore the file only when all of these are true:
- The file came from the expected application directory.
- The application was installed from a legitimate original source.
- The file has a valid signature identifying the expected vendor, when a signature is available.
- A current security scan does not indicate an active infection.
Microsoft notes that a restored quarantined file may be detected again. Do not blindly add an exclusion for the folder. If the file is repeatedly removed, update Windows Security, run a full scan, and reinstall the application after the system is clean.

Fix 3: Check the file, path, signature, and architecture
A file can be present and still fail to load because it is the wrong build, corrupted, unsigned, or located somewhere the application does not search.
In File Explorer, locate the application’s expected copy and then:
- Right-click
styles.dll. - Select Properties.
- Open the General tab and confirm the path.
- Open Details and record the file version if one is shown.
- Open Digital Signatures, if present.
- Select a signature and click Details.
- Confirm that Windows reports the signature as valid and that the signer matches the expected application vendor.
If the file is in a temporary folder, a download folder, or a Windows system directory rather than the application’s own directory, do not use it as a replacement. Remove the uncertainty by running the official application repair.

- Start the program if possible.
- Open Task Manager.
- Select Details.
- Right-click a column heading and choose Select columns.
- Enable Platform where available.
- Check whether the process is 32-bit or 64-bit.
On Windows versions that do not show a Platform column, the installer documentation, program folder layout, or the application’s About dialog may identify the architecture. The application’s architecture, not merely Windows’ architecture, determines which files and runtime packages it needs.
Fix 4: Distinguish styles.dll from a missing dependency
“Specified module could not be found” does not always mean that styles.dll itself is absent. The file may exist while another library required by it is missing or incompatible.

Read the error again and look for a separately named dependency:
vcruntime140.dllmsvcp140.dllucrtbase.dll
If one of those is named, repair or install the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable package requested by the application. Use the architecture matching the application:
vc_redist.x86.exefor a 32-bit applicationvc_redist.x64.exefor a 64-bit application
A 64-bit Windows installation can require both packages because it may run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. Do not install a runtime solely because a page claims that styles.dll is part of Visual C++. That association is not supported by Microsoft’s runtime package documentation.
After installing or repairing the runtime, restart Windows and test the application. If the application still reports styles.dll, repair the application itself. The runtime does not replace a missing private Corel library.
Fix 5: Repair Windows components when Windows corruption is suspected
DISM and SFC repair protected Windows components. They are useful after a failed Windows update, disk corruption, or broader system damage, but they are not targeted replacements for a third-party Corel DLL.
Open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start and type
Command Prompt. - Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Approve the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands complete and test the affected application.

If SFC reports that it could not repair some files, restart and run the commands again, or investigate Windows servicing and disk health. If both complete successfully but the Corel program still cannot find styles.dll, return to the application repair or reinstall. A successful SFC scan does not prove that a private application file is intact.

Repeatedly running DISM and SFC without checking what changed can make this process difficult to diagnose. A driver update is not a normal fix for a missing application DLL. Consider it when the failure began with display crashes, device errors, a failed graphics update, or related entries in Device Manager.
To check drivers:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the category related to the symptom, such as Display adapters.
- Right-click the device.
- Select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for drivers.
- Restart Windows if a driver is installed.
For a graphics or hardware problem, obtain the driver from the device manufacturer or computer manufacturer. Avoid removing several drivers at once, since that can create additional failures.

Fix 7: Use recovery or a clean reinstall for recent changes
If the error started immediately after an application update, Windows update, cleanup, or driver installation:
- Open Settings → System → Recovery.
- Review available recovery options.
- For System Restore, select Open System Restore.
- Choose a restore point created before the failure.
- Review affected programs before confirming.
System Restore rolls back system files and settings, not personal documents. If the failure followed a specific application update, uninstalling and reinstalling that application is usually more direct.
For an obsolete program, the installer or its dependencies may no longer be compatible with the current Windows release. Use a supported version or the vendor’s compatibility guidance instead of forcing an old DLL into a new system.

- Do not download a random
styles.dlland copy it intoSystem32orSysWOW64. - Do not mix a 32-bit DLL with a 64-bit application, or the reverse.
- Do not trust a filename-only match. A wrong build can cause “not designed to run on Windows” errors.
- Do not use
regsvr32as a generic repair command. It applies to DLLs designed to self-register and export an entry point such asDllRegisterServer; ordinary private application libraries generally do not. - Do not remove older Visual C++ Redistributables just because a newer one is installed. Different applications can depend on different versions.
- Do not add a permanent antivirus exclusion before confirming the file’s origin and signature.
A copy in the program directory is appropriate only when it is placed there by the application’s official installer or repair process.

Is styles.dll a Windows system file?
It is not established as a Windows System32 or SysWOW64 component. Public metadata most strongly associates it with Corel’s Styles engine.

Is styles.dll part of Visual C++ 2015?
That claim is unsupported by Microsoft’s Visual C++ Redistributable documentation. Repair Visual C++ only when the error names a runtime dependency or the application vendor requires it.
Where should styles.dll be installed?
There is no universal path. The correct location is determined by the application that installed it. Let that program’s official repair or installer place the file.

Why does the error say the module could not be found when the file exists?
A dependency of styles.dll may be missing, or the file may be corrupt, unsigned, or the wrong architecture. Check the complete error and repair the owning application.
Should I register styles.dll with regsvr32?
Normally, no. Registration is for self-registering DLLs, not ordinary application libraries.
What if repair succeeds but the error returns?

What should I send to support?
