Supermarket Simulator’s official Windows minimum is a 64-bit Windows 10 PC with an Intel i5-3550 or AMD Ryzen 5 2500X, 8 GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon R9 270X. The recommended target is 16 GB RAM and a stronger processor and graphics card. Steam also lists separate Mac requirements. These are hardware thresholds, not a promise of a particular frame rate—especially once a store grows.

The following Windows specifications are listed on the official Steam store page.

Steam’s recommended GPU label is GTX 2070. That wording is unusual beside NVIDIA’s familiar RTX 2070 naming; the store page says GTX, so do not silently treat RTX as an official correction. If you are buying a graphics card specifically to match the recommendation, verify the live listing and compare the actual card rather than relying on the label alone.
The listed 5 GB is the game’s storage requirement, not a recommendation to leave your drive with only 5 GB free. Keeping additional space available for Steam, saves, updates and normal system use is sensible.

Mac system requirements
Steam gives Mac users a separate, less detailed specification. It does not list a Mac graphics card or DirectX requirement.

Use these Mac requirements rather than trying to apply the Windows GPU and DirectX rows to macOS. Steam’s technical-support page for the game also provides the Mac requirement listing.
How to check whether your PC can run it
- Check Windows. The published PC requirement names 64-bit Windows 10. The listing cited here does not separately state Windows 11 support.
- Identify the processor model. Compare the full model name with the listed Intel or AMD CPU; GHz alone is not enough to establish equivalent performance.
- Check installed RAM. 8 GB meets the minimum, while 16 GB matches the Windows recommendation.
- Identify the graphics processor. Compare the actual GPU with the GTX 1050 or R9 270X minimum tier. Do not judge by VRAM capacity alone: architecture and, for laptops, power limits matter too.
- Check free storage. The listed requirement is 5 GB; leave extra room for updates and other system needs.
On a Windows PC, you can find component names in Settings > System > About for the processor and installed RAM. To identify the graphics hardware, open Device Manager > Display adapters. If a laptop lists both integrated and dedicated graphics, confirm which one the game is using before deciding that the dedicated GPU is too weak.

A newer processor is not automatically worse because its clock speed looks lower than an older listed model, and laptop GPU names do not guarantee desktop-equivalent performance. A system near minimum may be viable, but the official listing does not specify resolution, graphics preset, store size, or a target frame rate.
Is 8 GB of RAM enough?
8 GB meets the official Windows and Mac minimums. On Windows, however, the recommended figure is 16 GB. The operating system and other open applications also use memory, so 16 GB is the more comfortable general target, particularly if you multitask or intend to build a larger store. That is a practical interpretation of the listed gap, not a developer guarantee about late-game performance.
Do larger stores need more powerful hardware?
The developer’s official Steam announcements and patch notes mention CPU-performance improvements for larger store configurations. That is evidence that store scale can affect performance; it does not establish that every slowdown has one cause or that a particular processor guarantees smooth play.

More customers, staff, products or furniture may increase the simulation workload, but the available official requirements do not quantify the effect of each factor. If performance declines as a save grows, a stronger CPU and 16 GB RAM are more sensible targets than treating the minimum specification as a late-game promise. Steam does not publish an FPS target, resolution, graphics preset, or specific large-store benchmark alongside the requirements.
Does it run on Windows 11, Mac, or Steam Deck?
Windows 11
The Steam requirements shown here name 64-bit Windows 10. They do not explicitly list Windows 11, so the published requirement alone does not establish Windows 11 support. Check the current store listing if that distinction matters before buying.
Mac
Steam lists macOS 10.15 Catalina, an Intel Core i5 and 8 GB RAM as minimum, with an Apple M1 processor recommended. Its Mac table does not specify a GPU or DirectX.

Steam Deck and Linux
The official requirements table provides Windows and Mac specifications, not a separate SteamOS, Linux or Steam Deck target. Check the current Steam Deck compatibility badge and recent player reports on the live Steam page; compatibility status and player experience can change, and neither establishes a fixed frame rate. A community modding project supporting platforms including Linux, SteamOS and Steam Deck is evidence about that mod, not proof of the unmodified game’s official performance.

Meeting the minimum does not guarantee smooth performance in every situation. A powerful GPU also cannot rule out CPU, memory, thermal, driver, or game-version issues. Use these checks to narrow down the problem; none is a guaranteed fix.
- Confirm the game is using the intended GPU, especially on a laptop with both integrated and dedicated graphics.
- Close unnecessary background applications and check whether RAM use is high.
- Reduce resolution or graphics settings to see whether the issue changes.
- Monitor CPU and GPU utilization, temperatures and signs of throttling. If one component is heavily loaded while another is not, that can help identify where to investigate, but does not by itself prove the cause.
- Compare the same session in a new, small store and a mature save. Note whether the slowdown appears only as the store becomes more complex.
- If the issue began after a graphics-driver change, check whether another current driver resolves it; avoid assuming every update is beneficial.
- Check recent official announcements and Steam support discussions. Steam’s game technical-support page is a starting point for support options.
These checks can help distinguish a system bottleneck from a change associated with a save, driver or game update. No single hardware upgrade is established as a fix for all stuttering.
Should you upgrade before playing?
Use the published tiers as comparison points, not a shopping list of exact models. A system below the minimum CPU or GPU, with less than 8 GB RAM, an unsupported OS, or under 5 GB of free space has a clear gap against Steam’s listing. If the PC already meets minimum, first confirm which GPU the game uses and try reducing settings before replacing hardware.
- Consider more RAM if you have 8 GB and regularly run other applications while playing; 16 GB is the recommended Windows amount.
- Consider a GPU upgrade if your current graphics hardware is below the listed minimum tier, after checking the exact model and laptop power configuration.
- Consider CPU capability if slowdowns correlate with a larger store, while recognizing the patch notes do not prove that the CPU is the cause in every case.
An SSD is not an official requirement; it may help general loading responsiveness, but it should not be expected to cure simulation-related stutter. The Steam requirements do not give separate hardware targets for multiplayer or DLC, so there is no basis here to claim either requires an upgrade.
