Nintendo says Switch 2 sold more than 3.5 million units worldwide in the four days after its June 5, 2025 launch—the highest first-four-day global sales for any Nintendo hardware. The figure is based on Nintendo’s internal data and includes multiple system configurations, not just one retail SKU.
What record did Switch 2 break?
In a June 11, 2025 announcement, Nintendo said Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units worldwide during the first four days after its June 5 release. Nintendo described that as the highest global sales level for any of its hardware in a first-four-day period. The announcement attributes the sales figures to Nintendo internal data.

The claim is specifically a Nintendo-hardware record over a four-day worldwide window. It does not establish that Switch 2 was the fastest-selling console across all manufacturers or under every possible measure of launch sales.
What was included in the 3.5 million figure?
Nintendo said the total included the Nintendo Switch 2 Mario Kart World Set, the Japanese-Language System sold only in Japan, and the Multi-Language System, also sold exclusively in Japan. The figure therefore covers more than one configuration; it should not be read as sales of a single identical retail SKU.

How did Switch 2 sales progress after launch?
Nintendo’s later figures use different time periods and metric descriptions, so they provide context rather than a like-for-like update to the first-four-day total.
| Figure | Period and measure | What Nintendo said |
|---|---|---|
| Over 3.5 million units | Worldwide, first four days after the June 5, 2025 launch | Highest first-four-day global sales for any Nintendo hardware; Nintendo internal data. |
| 15 million units | Cumulative global consumer sell-through by the fourth week of December 2025 | Nintendo called Switch 2 the fastest-selling dedicated video game platform it had released to that date, in its February 2026 investor presentation. |
| 19.86 million units | FY2026 hardware units, reported in May 2026 | Nintendo’s May 2026 investor materials define sell-through as sales to individual consumers, including purchases through Nintendo’s direct-sales websites. |
These numbers should not be combined as though they describe the same window or measure: the launch announcement gives a first-four-day sales figure, the December figure is cumulative consumer sell-through, and the FY2026 number is a fiscal-year hardware total.

What did Nintendo say about the launch?
Nintendo of America President and Chief Operating Officer Doug Bowser said, “Fans around the world are showing their enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2 as an upgraded way to play at home and on the go.” That is Bowser’s characterization of the response; Nintendo’s reported sales data is the basis for the record claim.

Nintendo’s U.S. launch announcement described a larger screen, redesigned magnetic Joy-Con 2 controllers, and GameChat. Mario Kart World was identified as a Switch 2 launch-day exclusive. In the U.S., Nintendo listed launch suggested retail prices of $449.99 for the system and $499.99 for a bundle with a digital download of the full game. Those are launch-era prices from 2025, not current price guidance, and Nintendo’s materials do not establish that the game or bundle caused the sales record.
