Those reports did not establish how many orders were affected or confirm why cancellations happened. This is a retrospective of the June 2025 reports, not a current warning about Switch 2 pre-orders.
What was reported before the Switch 2 launch?
On June 3, 2025, T3’s Rik Henderson reported customer posts alleging that Switch 2 pre-orders had been cancelled at US retailers including Walmart and Target. A related 9to5Toys report by Justin Kahn, published May 29, also covered cancellation complaints. These were reports of individual customers’ experiences, not evidence that either retailer cancelled all or most pre-orders.

Neither report established a total or share of affected orders. Online complaints alone cannot show how common cancellations were, and the available reporting did not provide a verified count.
Why were orders cancelled?
The cause was unclear. T3 raised payment authorization or communication problems as a possible explanation; 9to5Toys described the reason as unknown and mentioned an Affirm-related theory only as speculation. Neither account confirmed that explanation, and it should not be treated as the cause of every reported cancellation.

The reports did not include a substantive on-record explanation from Nintendo or a named retailer representative.
What should an affected customer check?
- Open the retailer account used to place the order. Check the order details directly rather than relying only on a social-media post or an email preview.
- Look for a cancellation notice and the current order status. Note whether the retailer’s account page actually marks the order as cancelled.
- Check the payment method. Review whether the retailer requested or attempted payment authorization and whether the payment provider shows a declined or incomplete authorization.
- Contact the retailer through its current support channels. Ask about the specific order and what options are available. The reports did not establish a standard remedy or guarantee that a cancelled order could be reinstated.
Those checks help distinguish a reported cancellation from an order-status or payment issue, but the June 2025 coverage did not document a universal resolution process.

How to read the reports in context
The cancellation stories appeared shortly before the console’s June 5, 2025 launch, which is why the original headline referred to “just days to go.” That countdown is historical. The reports concerned the Switch 2 console; accessories mentioned alongside it, such as controllers or a microSD Express card, were not solutions for a cancelled console order.
