Taco Bell and Duolingo are turning Taco Day into a global promotion on Oct. 6, 2026, with a limited-time Duo Habanero Sauce, taco-themed language content and limited plushie activations. In the U.S., the sauce packet is free with a qualifying Doritos Locos Taco purchase at participating locations; it is not a standalone freebie. Availability and other offers vary by market and while supplies last.
What is the Taco Bell–Duolingo collaboration?
Announced Oct. 1, the collaboration combines Taco Bell’s National Taco Day celebration with Duolingo’s green owl mascot, Duo. Taco Bell calls the event Global Taco Day and schedules it for Oct. 6, 2026. Its promotion includes restaurant sauce, language-themed content and limited plushie activities—not a regular retail launch of a Duo toy.
Taco Bell says the campaign will reach more than 30 languages, a promotional framing rather than a figure supported by a linguistic study in the announcement. The sauce packets themselves feature taco-themed sayings in nine languages: English, Spanish, French, Hindi, Portuguese, German, Korean, Mandarin and Japanese. Taco Bell’s announcement describes Duo Habanero as bright and tangy, with fruity habanero heat; no independent taste test is established.
How to get Duo Habanero Sauce
In the U.S., Taco Bell lists one complimentary sauce packet with a qualifying Doritos Locos Taco purchase at participating locations. Additional packets are listed at $0.20 each, though participation, price and supply can vary by restaurant. Check the official promotion page or ask your local restaurant before ordering.

Taco Bell says it worked with National Day Calendar in 2024 to move its Taco Day observance to the first Tuesday in October, and frames the Duolingo collaboration as the next step in taking that celebration global. The company’s marketing claim that “taco” is understood in more than 30 languages is not accompanied by a cited study or methodology in its announcement.
