What is Tainted about?
Residents of a city on Ontario’s Niagara Escarpment begin showing signs of what appears to be epidemic mad cow disease. Zol Szabo, a public-health doctor and former chef, works with infectious-diseases specialist Hamish Wakefield to trace the source and investigate possible prion contamination. Their inquiry faces interference from a government-appointed investigator, alongside pressure from public-health institutions, hospitals and the media.
