What Take-Two announced in April 2024
Reuters reported on April 16, 2024, that Take-Two planned to eliminate about 5% of its workforce—around 600 employees—and scrap several projects in development. Those were estimates describing the plan at the time, not a confirmed final layoff count. Reuters also reported that Take-Two planned to reduce some office space. What was known about the affected games and teams
The report did not identify the canceled projects, the studios working on them, or the Take-Two labels affected. Take-Two’s principal labels include Rockstar Games, 2K, and Zynga, but that company structure does not establish which teams were impacted. Take-Two investor relations profile.
Why the company said it was making cuts
The plan was a cost-reduction measure. Reuters reported that Take-Two expected it to produce more than $165 million in annual savings and incur charges of up to $200 million. The expected charges included up to $140 million associated with canceled projects and up to $35 million in severance and other employee-related costs. These were estimates announced with the plan, not verified final savings or expenses.

Was GTA 6 canceled or included in the cuts?
No. Reuters’ April 2024 report did not say that GTA VI was canceled or affected; it did not name any of the canceled projects. The phrase “GTA 6 publisher” identifies Take-Two, the company behind Rockstar Games, but is not evidence that the game was among the projects cut.
Take-Two’s May 21, 2026 earnings release listed Grand Theft Auto VI under Rockstar Games for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, with a release date of November 19, 2026. That is the schedule in the company release, not a claim that dates cannot change. Take-Two’s fiscal 2026 results release.

In a separate November 6, 2025 earnings release, Take-Two Chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick said: “Rockstar Games will now release Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19, 2026, and we remain both excited and confident they will deliver an unrivalled blockbuster entertainment experience.” This was a statement about the game’s schedule, not about the 2024 layoffs or canceled projects. Reuters reported that Take-Two had 11,580 full-time employees as of March 2023. That is an older baseline, not the company’s current headcount, and the roughly 600 planned job cuts should not be treated as an exact count of people ultimately laid off. The sources cited here do not establish the final number of layoffs or the realized savings and charges.
