tannen.dll errors usually appear when FilmoraPro or HitFilm cannot load one of its own application files. You may see messages such as:
- “The program can’t start because tannen.dll is missing from your computer.”
- “The code execution cannot proceed because tannen.dll was not found.”
- “The procedure entry point could not be located in the dynamic link library … tannen.dll.”
- “tannen.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error.”
The 60-second answer
tannen.dll is not a Windows system DLL. It is associated with third-party video-editing applications, especially Wondershare FilmoraPro and FXhome HitFilm or HitFilm Express.
Read the complete path in the error message. A path containing FilmoraPro points to FilmoraPro; a path containing FXHOMEHitFilm points to HitFilm. Repair or reinstall that exact application from its original vendor installer. Do not download tannen.dll separately or copy it into System32 or SysWOW64.
If the message names an OpenCL entry point such as clRetainDevice or clCreateCommandQueueWithProperties, repair the graphics driver as well. That is a graphics-stack compatibility problem, not a DLL-registration problem.

What caused the error

Public file records show a 64-bit tannen.dll record with version 14.3.9931.38452 and a size of about 7.21 MB. That record is more strongly associated with HitFilm than FilmoraPro, and filename-only databases cannot prove which build belongs on your computer. Do not use that version information as a reason to replace the file manually.
1. Identify the owning application from the full path
The filename alone is not enough. In the error dialog, select or copy the path shown after “dynamic link library” or beside the missing file message.
Look for:
Wondershare FilmoraProFXHOMEHitFilmHitFilm Express
A FilmoraPro report identifies the file in an application folder similar to:
C:Program Files (x86)Wondershare FilmoraPro(Portuguese)Tannen.dll
A HitFilm report identifies it in a path similar to:

These are private application locations. They are not normal Windows locations such as:
C:WindowsSystem32
C:WindowsSysWOW64
If the error points to a different program, repair that program rather than copying a FilmoraPro or HitFilm DLL into it.
2. Check Windows Security quarantine
An antivirus product may quarantine or remove an application DLL. Check this before reinstalling.

- Open Start and search for Windows Security.
- Open Windows Security.
- Select Virus & threat protection.
- Under Current threats, select Protection history.
- Review recent detections for FilmoraPro, HitFilm, or
tannen.dll. - Open a detection to view its details.
Restore the file only when all of these conditions are true:
- You installed the application from a trusted vendor source.
- The detection clearly belongs to that installation.
- You have verified that the application and installer were not modified.
- You understand the security warning shown by Windows.
Microsoft warns that restoring a genuine threat can expose the device. If there is any doubt, remove the application and reinstall it from the original installer instead of allowing an isolated DLL.
After restoring a trusted file, launch the application. If Windows Security removes it again, do not repeatedly override the detection. Perform a full scan and obtain a clean application installer.
3. Repair or reinstall FilmoraPro or HitFilm
This is the most likely fix for a genuinely missing, damaged, or mismatched tannen.dll.
Try the application repair option
Some Windows applications expose a repair command.
- Open Settings.
- Select Apps.
- Select Installed apps on Windows 11, or Apps & features on Windows 10.
- Find FilmoraPro, HitFilm, or HitFilm Express.
- Open the application’s menu.
- Choose Modify, Advanced options, or Repair if that option is available.
- Complete the repair and restart Windows.
- Launch the editor again.
The exact repair controls depend on how the application was installed. If no repair option appears, use the reinstall path.
Reinstall the complete application
- Save any project files, presets, and custom media locations.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Select FilmoraPro or HitFilm.
- Choose Uninstall and complete the wizard.
- Restart Windows.
- Run the original vendor installer.
- Install the application into its normal location.
- Restart Windows again.
- Start the application before restoring custom plug-ins or modified files.
Do not copy tannen.dll from another computer, another editor, or a different release. A 64-bit DLL cannot repair a 32-bit application, and a DLL from HitFilm is not a substitute for the FilmoraPro build.
Wondershare has retired FilmoraPro. Its official status information says sales and upgrades stopped on July 1, 2022, and technical support ended on July 1, 2023. Wondershare has retained a Windows installer link, but an archived installer may no longer work on current hardware or remain available. If it cannot be obtained or installed, use a previously retained installer, contact Wondershare through its remaining support channels, or migrate to a supported editor.

4. Separate a missing file from an OpenCL error
A missing-file message and an entry-point error need different treatment.
An error naming clRetainDevice or clCreateCommandQueueWithProperties means Windows found tannen.dll but could not find a required function in the graphics stack. This commonly points to an incompatible, damaged, or outdated graphics driver, although the old application build may also be incompatible with newer hardware.
Update the driver for the GPU actually used by the editor:
- Right-click Start.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand Display adapters.
- Note whether the system uses Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, or more than one adapter.
- Right-click the relevant adapter and select Properties.
- Open the Driver tab and note the provider and date.
- Obtain the current driver from the GPU manufacturer.
- Install it using the manufacturer’s installer.
- Restart Windows.
- Launch FilmoraPro or HitFilm again.
If a normal update does not help, run the graphics manufacturer’s clean-install option when offered. Remove old third-party tuning utilities while troubleshooting, then test the editor with its default graphics settings.

If the application is an obsolete build and the GPU does not expose the OpenCL capability it expects, a driver update may not be enough. Check the archived requirements for that specific FilmoraPro or HitFilm release, then use supported hardware or a supported application version.

5. Check application architecture
Windows 11 and Windows 10 can run both 32-bit and 64-bit applications. The operating system’s bitness does not tell you which package the editor uses.
To check the installed application:
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps.
- Find the editor.
- Open its details or installation folder.
- Check the vendor’s installer information or product documentation for its architecture.
Do not place a 64-bit tannen.dll in a 32-bit application folder, or the reverse. Do not mix files between FilmoraPro and HitFilm. Reinstalling the complete package is safer because it restores the matching executable, DLLs, runtimes, and configuration files together.

6. Install Visual C++ only when the error names it
tannen.dll is not established as a Microsoft Visual C++ runtime DLL. Installing a runtime will not normally repair a missing private application file.
Consider the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable only if the error separately names a file such as:

A 32-bit application may need the x86 redistributable even on 64-bit Windows. Install the architecture named by the error or application requirements, restart Windows, and test again. Do not install random runtime DLLs from download sites.
7. Run Windows repair commands as a secondary step
DISM and SFC repair Windows components and protected system files. They generally do not restore a private DLL inside a FilmoraPro or HitFilm folder, so use them after repairing the owning application.
First install pending Windows updates:
- Open Settings.
- Select Windows Update.
- Select Check for updates.
- Install available updates.
- Restart Windows.
Then open an elevated Command Prompt:
- Open Start and type Command Prompt.
- Right-click Command Prompt.
- Select Run as administrator.
- Select Yes at the User Account Control prompt.
- Run:
DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Wait for it to finish. Then run:
sfc /scannow
Restart Windows when both commands complete. If SFC reports that it repaired files, test the application again. If it reports no integrity violations but tannen.dll still fails, return to the application reinstall and graphics-driver branches.

regsvr32 registers DLLs that provide registration entry points such as DllRegisterServer. A private runtime or application DLL may not expose that function.
Running:
regsvr32 tannen.dll
may produce:
DllRegisterServer was not found
It may also change nothing. That result does not prove the file is missing or corrupt. tannen.dll should normally be loaded by FilmoraPro or HitFilm from the application directory, not registered globally.

Do not copy it to System32, SysWOW64, or another application’s folder. That can create version conflicts, load the wrong architecture, and weaken the security boundary between applications.
Frequently asked questions
Is tannen.dll part of Windows?
No verified evidence shows that it ships with Windows. It is associated with applications that installed it, particularly FilmoraPro and HitFilm.

There is no evidence that it is. Install Visual C++ only when the error separately names a Visual C++ runtime dependency.
Can I download tannen.dll by itself?
Do not use random DLL download sites websites. The file may contain malware, be the wrong architecture, belong to another product, or leave the damaged installation unresolved. Use the original FilmoraPro or HitFilm installer.
Why does the version 14.3.9931.38452 appear in searches?
Public records associate that 64-bit record more strongly with HitFilm. It is not reliable proof that the file belongs to your FilmoraPro installation.
Will SFC restore the file?
Normally no. SFC repairs protected Windows files, while tannen.dll is an application-private file. Reinstall the owning editor.
What if the official FilmoraPro installer no longer works?
Do not replace the DLL manually. Try a previously retained installer or vendor support. If the retired application cannot run on the current system and hardware, migration to a supported editor may be the practical solution.
