Ted Price announced on January 22, 2025, that he would retire from the games industry at the end of March, after more than 30 years leading Insomniac Games. Chad Dezern, Jen Huang, and Ryan Schneider were named co-studio heads as part of a planned succession. Price said he had made the decision the previous year and spent that year working with senior leaders on the transition.
When did Ted Price retire?
Price made the announcement public on January 22, 2025, and said his retirement would take effect at the end of March 2025. He had shared the news with Insomniac employees the week before. In his announcement, Price described the choice as a decision he had made in 2024: “I actually made this decision last year.”
Price, identified in the announcement as Insomniac’s president and founder, wrote that after more than 30 years leading the studio, he felt it was time to step aside and let others lead the team. Who took over leadership of Insomniac Games?
Chad Dezern, Jen Huang, and Ryan Schneider were named co-studio heads together. Price said he had worked with Insomniac’s senior leadership over the preceding year on a succession plan intended to provide continuity, stability, and strong leadership. The announcement presents a shared leadership transition, not a contest in which one person replaced Price as the sole head.

What did the new co-studio heads say would change?
Dezern, Huang, and Schneider said their intention was to preserve what made Insomniac distinctive while evolving the studio strategically. They also said they would continue prioritizing transparency and collaboration, making games for players, and taking care of the people who make them. These were stated intentions at the time of the January 2025 announcement; they do not establish a particular future game, release date, or project slate.

How does the transition fit Insomniac’s history?
Insomniac’s leadership changed after a long period of growth alongside major game franchises. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced in August 2019 that it had entered definitive agreements to acquire the studio’s entire equity interest, describing Insomniac as a longtime SIE partner. Sony’s announcement named Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, and Marvel’s Spider-Man among the studio’s games. Sony Interactive Entertainment’s 2019 acquisition announcement.
The same Sony release reported that Marvel’s Spider-Man had sold through more than 13.2 million copies worldwide as of July 28, 2019. That is a historical, dated figure—not a current sales total. Sony also reported in 2019 that Insomniac had earned 20 workplace culture awards since 2005; that, too, is a historical figure from the acquisition announcement, not a current count.
