Its home version added story cinematics and five extra modes, while the game shifted the Mishima family conflict toward Heihachi. A later PS4/PS5 digital conversion is available through the US PlayStation Store, but Sony warns it may differ from the original PlayStation release.
What is Tekken 2 about?
Tekken 2 is the second game in Namco’s fighting-game series. Its story takes place two years after the previous tournament. Kazuya Mishima, now leading the Mishima Zaibatsu, sponsors a new competition after his father Heihachi has been defeated and disappeared. Heihachi returns to challenge Kazuya and reclaim power. Jun Kazama and Lei Wulong are among the new characters introduced in the game.

The shift toward Heihachi marked a change from the first game’s focus. PlayStation Blog’s March 5, 2025 retrospective describes the arcade release as bringing the deposed patriarch and former villain back into the spotlight alongside new faces Jun and Lei. When did Tekken 2 come out?
Tekken 2 reached arcades in late 1995, followed by its PlayStation conversion in 1996. Bandai Namco describes the PlayStation edition as a port of arcade Tekken 2 Ver.B. The arcade and console releases are related editions, not interchangeable names for one release: the PlayStation version added home-oriented content and adjusted CPU difficulty.

What did the PlayStation version add?
More ways to play
Alongside Arcade, the PlayStation release includes five modes: Team Battle, Practice, VS, Survival, and Time Attack. These modes give the home version options for group matches, training, direct matches, endurance play, and timed challenges.
Additional cinematics
The PlayStation edition adds a CG opening movie and revised character endings. These are part of the home release’s presentation, rather than features of the arcade version described by Bandai Namco.

- Variety of complex new arenas that add to the challenge - Some will box you in and put you toe-to-toe with opponents, others will give you huge space for the big moves
- Watch as the environemnt reacts to your combat - from the grass under your feet to the objects on the walls
Adjusted difficulty and expanded fighting options
Bandai Namco says the home CPU difficulty was adjusted. The publisher also identifies combat additions over the first game, including auto-guard, quick recovery, guard-breaking attacks, throw escapes, back throws, counters for selected characters, and more ways to recover or act while grounded. These are broad feature descriptions, not a current competitive frame-data guide.

Can you play Tekken 2 on PS5?
Yes. As of October 8, 2026, the US PlayStation Store lists TEKKEN2 PS4 & PS5, published by Bandai Namco Entertainment America Inc. The digital conversion supports offline play and one to two players. Its listed enhancements are up-rendering, rewind, quick save, and custom video filters.
The listing cautions that this conversion can differ from the original PlayStation version, that some features may not function properly, and that PlayStation console peripherals are unsupported. It is a modern conversion of the PlayStation game, not a new remake. Store availability and pricing can change; check the US PlayStation Store listing for current details.

Is Tekken 2 on PS4 the same as the original?
It is based on the PlayStation version, but the store explicitly warns that it may play differently from that original release. The available listing identifies the added conversion features, but does not establish that every behavior or peripheral works exactly as it did on original PlayStation hardware.
The original PlayStation edition and the PS4/PS5 store conversion are also different purchase formats. A physical PlayStation copy is a legacy product search; no current stock, condition, regional compatibility, or price is established here. The store version is digital, not a physical disc.
