What is The Alters?
The Alters is a science-fiction survival game starring Jan Dolski, the lone survivor of an expedition crash-landed on a hostile planet. To survive, Jan uses a substance called Rapidium to create alternate versions of himself—Alters—each shaped by a different past decision. PlayStation describes the game as “an ambitious sci-fi survival game with a unique twist”; that is the platform holder’s description, not an independent review verdict. What is The Alters: Last Variable?
The Alters: Last Variable is an expansion that became available on July 13, 2026, according to the official Steam community announcement. It adds a story centered on Jan Scientist and a specialized Alter crew, alongside an Oasis mystery, terraforming, an underground base, and Field Labs.
On the US PlayStation Store page, the PS5 Deluxe Edition listing includes the base game, Last Variable, an exclusive in-game outfit, and the original soundtrack.
