How to start The Animancy Method
The main quest investigates the Dreamscourge and takes you through Emerald Stair to Fior mes Ivèrno, a settlement associated with animancers. Game8’s walkthrough begins by entering Emerald Stair through its gatehouse, continuing to Fior mes Ivèrno, and speaking with Governor Ignasi Vidarro. Then find and speak with Giatta. Obsidian identifies Giatta Castell as an animancer from Fior mes Ivèrno who is pursuing her parents’ research.

Complete Giatta’s three consultations
Giatta directs you to three contacts. Game8 says their objectives can be completed in any order; it recommends starting with Elia as a smoother route, but that is advice, not a quest requirement.

Get the Adragan Heart from the Delemgan Queen
From Fior mes Ivèrno, travel west toward the Delemgan Glade and follow the route to the Delemgan Queen. Your approach can affect this encounter. Game8 reports that reaching the Queen while you are not engaged in combat can allow a peaceful conversation and an exchange for the heart. If you arrive while combat is active, the Queen becomes a boss fight instead.
- Want to try the peaceful exchange? Avoid entering the Queen’s area while fighting. The guide describes this as a conditional opportunity, not a guaranteed outcome.
- Expecting a fight? Prepare before approaching. Game8 recommends getting ready for the boss encounter and reports that defeating the Queen can drop a Ring of Minor Deflection.
The walkthrough does not establish that this encounter choice changes the wider quest outcome. After obtaining the heart, return to the Animancy Workshop, place it in the Animancy Device, and speak with Monto.

Retrieve the Phantasmal Focus and recruit Giatta
Once the consultations are complete, return to Giatta. Game8’s walkthrough says she gives you a key to the basement of the Castell Family Lab. Enter the lab, retrieve the Phantasmal Focus, and bring it back to her. The quest then completes, and Giatta joins as a companion.
Obsidian’s official Avowed page describes Giatta as an animancer from Fior mes Ivèrno pursuing her parents’ research.
