Quick answer: Hades II is the best replayable action pick; Oblivion Remastered is the big open-world RPG; Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the strongest story-led solo choice; and Kiln is the standout for creative online multiplayer. The April 2026 lineup also brings Vampire Crawlers, DayZ, NBA 2K26 and Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era.
April 2026 Game Pass picks at a glance
- Hades II — best for repeatable action. Choose it for rapid runs, build experimentation and combat that rewards repeated attempts.
- Oblivion Remastered — best for a large open-world RPG. It suits a long solo campaign built around Elder Scrolls exploration in a modern presentation.
- Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 — best for a focused story. This is the pick for a single-player RPG with turn-based combat and a narrative-led structure.
- Vampire Crawlers — best for tactical short sessions. Its deck building, dungeon exploration and turn-based roguelite structure work well when you want compact runs.
- Kiln — best for creative online multiplayer. You make ceramic creations and take them into online arenas, combining construction with competitive play.
- DayZ — best for unforgiving survival. The open-world Chernarus setting turns resource gathering and hostile encounters into the central challenge.
- NBA 2K26 — best for sports and competition. Game Pass players can jump between Play Now, MyCareer, MyTeam and The City.
- Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era — best for turn-based strategy. It offers armies, spells and both solo and multiplayer strategy in an official prequel setting.

Games to play before they leave
Xbox Wire’s April 20, 2026 departure notice listed these games as leaving the catalog on April 30:
- Citizen Sleeper
- Creatures of Ava
- Goat Simulator
- Goat Simulator Remastered
- Hunt: Showdown 1896
- Revenge of the Savage Planet
That notice also corrected two earlier listings: Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 was not leaving on April 30, and NHL 24 remained in the catalog.
How to choose what to download
Match the game to your player type
- Want a long solo campaign? Start with Oblivion Remastered or Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
- Prefer short, repeatable sessions? Hades II and Vampire Crawlers are the natural fits.
- Need online play? Kiln, NBA 2K26 and Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era cover arena, sports and strategy formats.
- Want high-stakes survival? DayZ is the specialist choice.
Check the practical constraints
- Platform: Confirm whether the title is available on Cloud, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One/Console, Handheld or PC before downloading.
- Tier: Availability is title-specific across Essential, Premium, Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
- Time pressure: Prioritize games with a published April 30 departure date, then newly added day-one releases.
- Session length: Roguelites support repeatable short runs, while the RPGs are better suited to extended campaigns.
Where to verify availability
The official Game Pass catalog is the final authority because membership tiers, platforms and dates can change. Use its Most popular, Recently added, Coming to Game Pass, Leaving soon and Play day one filters, or narrow by genres such as action, indie, role-playing, shooter, simulation, sports and strategy.
