If you want horror that responds to your real voice, DON’T SCREAM and MustScream are the clearest released picks in the verified lineup. They use microphone input in different ways: one can end your run when it detects a loud sound; the other turns a scream into a movement action. Upcoming games such as False Positive and WARD 107: SILENCE advertise more voice-driven ideas, but neither is a released recommendation.
How these games use a microphone
“Uses your mic” can mean several different things. Some games react to sound from the room; others treat shouting as a button, capture speech for an enemy to replay, or simply provide voice chat for teammates. Those are not interchangeable: ordinary multiplayer chat alone does not establish that a game is listening for ambient noise or reacting to your voice as gameplay input.
- Real-world sound detection: the game responds to loud input picked up by the microphone.
- Voice as an action: speaking or shouting triggers a character ability.
- Speech capture and reuse: an enemy can repeat players’ words.
- Communication: voice chat lets players talk, without verified evidence here that the game uses room sound as a mechanic.
Released horror games with microphone-driven mechanics
DON’T SCREAM: keep quiet or restart
DON’T SCREAM is the strongest solo pick if you want your own reactions to become part of the challenge. Digital Cybercherries describes it as “A jump scare horror simulator. Requires a microphone to play.” Its official site says players must survive in a forest until morning, calibrate the mic in-game, and avoid detected loud input such as a scream, gasp, or squeak; making too much noise restarts the game. The official Steam listing also labels a microphone as required. These are the game’s own descriptions, not independently verified detection results.
Because the microphone is explicitly required, check that your headset or built-in mic works before starting. The available descriptions do not specify an exact detection threshold or establish how consistently different microphones behave.

The listing describes online co-op for one to four players and proximity voice chat. It lists a July 30, 2025 release date.
The Steam listing’s minimum requirements are Windows 10 64-bit, 16 GB RAM, an Intel Core i7-6700HQ, a GeForce GTX 950M, and 4 GB of storage. Store details can change, so confirm the current listing and platform support before buying.

Announced games to keep on your radar
False Positive: an entity that repeats your words
False Positive is marked “Coming soon” on Steam, so it is not a released pick. Its store description advertises online co-op for two to four players and an entity that reuses players’ actual words. It says players need voice chat and recommends a quality microphone for best voice capture. Those are advertised features; availability, final implementation, and voice-capture performance are not established beyond the current listing.
WARD 107: SILENCE: voice phrases and risky noise
GNJ Studios advertises WARD 107: SILENCE for 2027. Its official site describes voice phrases that open doors or trigger mechanisms, alongside mic detection of ambient sound, breathing, and speech that can expose the player to enemies. The site says a microphone is required. Treat it as an announced future game, not something available to play now.

What about Phasmophobia and other co-op horror games?
Phasmophobia is a four-player online co-op investigation game, according to its PlayStation page. The page describes collecting paranormal evidence with equipment such as Spirit Boxes, EMF Readers, thermometers, and cameras; it also lists cross-play support and audio accessibility settings. That information does not verify that the game detects ambient microphone sound, so it is not a confirmed mic-reactive recommendation on that basis alone.
Other titles sometimes appear in community discussions of microphone horror, including Stifled, In Silence, A Quiet Place: The Road Ahead, and Alien: Isolation. A mention on a roundup or forum is a lead, not confirmation of current live-mic mechanics across versions and platforms. Check official or store information for the specific edition you plan to play.

Which one should you choose?
- For a solo game where your real-world reaction can cost you the run: start with DON’T SCREAM.
- For co-op where shouting has an explicit gameplay use: consider MustScream.
- For speech imitation or voice-controlled interactions: watch False Positive and WARD 107: SILENCE, keeping their announced status in mind.
- For a co-op ghost investigation: Phasmophobia fits the genre, but the cited source does not prove ambient mic detection.
