The best PC settings for smooth performance in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Remastered depend first on your output resolution and frame-rate goal. Start with a non-ray-traced preset that matches your graphics card and resolution, then reduce image quality or output resolution if you cannot hold your target. CD PROJEKT RED’s published configurations are reference targets—not a promise of the same performance in every scene or on every PC.
Choose a resolution and frame-rate target first
Decide whether you are aiming for a stable 60 FPS, a higher refresh rate, or the sharpest image your PC can sustain. Resolution matters: CD PROJEKT RED says higher output resolution significantly affects FPS, and actual results vary with the scene, gameplay, system configuration, and graphics settings. Its PC requirements should therefore be read as targets for specified configurations, not guarantees for every location or setup.
For smoothness as the priority, begin with standard rasterized graphics rather than ray tracing or Path Tracing. Choose a preset in line with your GPU and resolution, then adjust image quality and, if needed, lower output resolution until performance meets your goal. This is a practical starting method, not a tested universal preset: the available published figures do not establish the FPS cost of each individual setting in the 2026 build.
Official configurations: match your GPU to your goal
The configurations below are CD PROJEKT RED QA targets reported by PC Gamer on September 29, 2026. The RT and Path Tracing configurations use DLSS, FSR, or XeSS on Auto; the 4K Path Tracing target also uses frame generation.

Use the row closest to your desired output resolution and visual tier as a rough hardware reference. The 4K Path Tracing figure is a notably different case from a conventional 4K rasterized target: it depends on both upscaling and frame generation, so it should not be taken to mean the RTX 5080 renders Path Tracing natively at 60 FPS.
What settings should I use for a stable 60 FPS?
- Start with ray tracing and Path Tracing off. Select a rasterized preset appropriate to your resolution and GPU. The published 1080p High and 1440p Ultra configurations provide useful reference tiers, but do not guarantee identical results on your system.
- Check performance in the kind of area where you play. Scene complexity and gameplay affect results, so judge whether performance is stable across representative play rather than relying on one quiet scene.
- Reduce image quality if you miss the target. Lower demanding-looking options in the in-game menu, or step down the preset. The earlier next-gen notes identify ULTRA+ controls for background-character count, shadows, grass density, texture quality, foliage visibility range, terrain, water, and detail; they do not establish fixed FPS savings for changing any one of them.
- Lower output resolution if settings reductions are not enough. CD PROJEKT RED explicitly notes that higher resolution significantly affects FPS. Reassess sharpness and stability after changing it.
- Revisit optional upscaling features if available. The December 2022 next-gen notes list DLSS 3 for compatible hardware and AMD FSR 2.1. The 2026 Remastered announcement confirms broad visual and performance changes, so check the current build’s menus and patch notes rather than assuming historical option names or behavior are unchanged.
There is no substantiated, setting-by-setting FPS chart for the current Remastered build in these published materials. Treat changes as adjustments to test on your own PC, not as guaranteed numerical gains.

Should I turn off ray tracing for smoother gameplay?
If smooth frame delivery is more important than ray-traced lighting, begin with ray tracing off. The official configurations separate rasterized tiers from RT and Path Tracing targets, and the most demanding published example—2160p Path Tracing at 60 FPS—requires an RTX 5080 plus upscaling and frame generation. That makes Path Tracing an optional visual tier, not a sensible starting point for a PC whose priority is smoothness.
If you want ray tracing, compare your hardware against the appropriate published RT configuration and keep its upscaling assumptions in mind. The requirements do not provide controlled per-setting costs, so they cannot establish that a particular RT setting will have the same performance impact on every GPU or scene.

Storage and operating-system requirements
Install the game on an SSD
The current PC requirements call for an SSD. CD PROJEKT RED says it “offers faster load times, smoother asset streaming, and improved overall performance.” Those stated benefits do not establish that replacing a drive by itself increases FPS. If the game is not on SSD storage, an internal SSD is a relevant upgrade to meet the requirement; the source does not specify a capacity, interface, or speed tier.
Windows 10 compatibility
Windows 10 may continue to run the game, but CD PROJEKT RED no longer officially supports or tests it. Its current requirements and support details are on the official support page.

Why your results may differ from the published targets
- The targets describe named hardware, output resolutions, settings, and—in RT cases—upscaling assumptions; a different configuration can perform differently.
- CD PROJEKT RED says performance varies with scene, gameplay, system configuration, graphics settings, and output resolution.
- Frame generation is part of the published 4K Path Tracing target. Do not compare that figure as though it represented native rendering without frame generation.
- The 2026 Remastered release announcement confirms Path Tracing on PC and broad visual and performance changes. The earlier December 2022 next-gen notes are useful for understanding options, but they do not prove those options behave identically in every current build.
