If The Crew 2 closes, freezes, or drops you back to the desktop, the right fix depends on when it happens. Work through these eight checks in order, starting with requirements, updates, and file verification before changing local settings or reinstalling. They cover Windows 10 and 11 PCs using Steam, Ubisoft Connect, or Epic Games Store; a Steam file check will not repair every Ubisoft Connect or account problem.
Start with the symptom

1. Check your PC against the current requirements
Ubisoft’s current store listing names Windows 10 and Windows 11, 8 GB of RAM, and 25 GB of storage for the PC version. Its minimum graphics hardware is a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870 with 2 GB of VRAM; listed minimum processors are an Intel Core i5-2400S or AMD FX-6100, or equivalent. Recommended hardware is higher, including a GeForce GTX 970 or Radeon RX 470. See the Ubisoft Store requirements for the complete specifications.

- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, then select Performance to see your CPU, memory, and GPU.
- Compare them with the store listing and make sure the installation drive has at least 25 GB free. Extra headroom is useful for updates and temporary files.
- If you use a laptop with integrated and dedicated graphics, check that the game is using the dedicated GPU; see Fix 6.
These are published requirements, not a guarantee of stable performance on every current Windows build, driver, laptop power setting, or background-software combination. Ubisoft’s original PC documentation also noted possible issues with processors lacking SSE4.x or AVX support; treat that as a legacy compatibility caveat, not a diagnosis for every crash. 2. Update Windows, graphics drivers, and launchers
- Install pending Windows updates and restart the PC.
- Install a graphics driver from the official NVIDIA or AMD support channel, then restart again.
- Update Steam or Epic Games Launcher if you use it, and open Ubisoft Connect directly so it can update before you start the game.
- Launch the game through its normal storefront and launcher flow; avoid modified launchers or unofficial executables.
A newer driver is not automatically better for every PC. If the crashes began immediately after a graphics-driver update, consider reinstalling the driver cleanly or returning to a known-stable official version. Do not use a driver version as a fix unless it is appropriate for your hardware and operating system.

3. Verify the game files in the storefront you use
Verification can replace missing or damaged installation files. It cannot repair an account handoff, a graphics driver, or a conflicting overlay.
Steam
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right-click The Crew 2 and select Properties.
- Open Installed Files, then select Verify integrity of game files.
- Let the check finish, restart Steam, and try again.
This follows Steam’s file-verification guidance.
Ubisoft Connect
Open Ubisoft Connect, select Games, choose The Crew 2, and open the game’s Properties. Select the available Verify files or similarly named integrity-check command. Ubisoft may change menu wording or layout, so look for the verification option in the game’s properties.
For an Epic Games Store installation, use Epic’s verification option for the game. Verify in the storefront that owns the installation; a Steam check does not validate files managed by another storefront. If verification repeatedly finds damaged files, especially after a reinstall, the drive itself may need attention.

4. Start Ubisoft Connect first and confirm the account
The PC version’s store listing requires a Ubisoft account and internet access, and a game bought through another storefront may still need to hand off through Ubisoft Connect. If that handoff fails, a launch problem can look like a game crash. Check the Ubisoft Store listing for current product conditions.
- Exit the game, Steam or Epic, and Ubisoft Connect.
- Open Task Manager and close any Ubisoft Connect processes that remain, if needed.
- Start Ubisoft Connect manually and sign in to the Ubisoft account that owns or is linked to the game. Wait for the library to load.
- Start the game from its usual storefront.
- If you play through Steam, make sure it is linked to the intended Ubisoft account.
Do not unlink or relink platform accounts as a casual troubleshooting step: account changes can affect game access and progression. Ask Ubisoft Support before changing account ownership or unlinking. Players have reported crashes around the opening flow in connection with launcher updates or account state, but community reports are anecdotal, not proof of a universal cause or endorsement of an old launcher rollback (example report).
5. Temporarily disable overlays and background hooks
Overlays and monitoring tools can interact with a game even when its own files are sound. Temporarily test without Steam Overlay, Ubisoft Connect’s in-game overlay, Discord overlay, NVIDIA or AMD overlay, Xbox Game Bar, MSI Afterburner/RivaTuner, Overwolf, and capture, RGB, macro, or performance-monitoring tools.

- Turn off overlays and close relevant hook or monitoring software.
- Restart the PC if a tool continues to run in the background.
- Launch the game and test the same situation that normally causes the crash.
- If it works, re-enable tools one at a time to identify the conflict.
Restore tools that are not involved. Do not permanently disable security software or every startup application for a game test. Ubisoft Connect includes an in-game overlay (Ubisoft Connect overview), but that does not establish that the overlay caused any particular crash.

Make sure a laptop uses its dedicated GPU
- In Windows 11, open Settings > System > Display > Graphics.
- Add or locate the installed game executable using Browse; its location varies by storefront.
- Select the game, open Options, choose High performance, and save.
- Restart the game. On a laptop, connect AC power and use an appropriate performance power mode.
Do not change a laptop’s graphics mode while the game is running. If your system has both integrated and dedicated graphics, confirm the dedicated GPU is enabled in the relevant system or vendor settings.
Test without wheels and controller software
Disconnect racing wheels, flight sticks, USB hubs, and extra controllers. Temporarily close third-party controller drivers, virtual gamepad tools, and remapping or macro utilities. Test with keyboard and mouse, then reconnect devices one by one. If the crash returns with one device or its software, you have a narrower lead.

Try this if the crash began after changing resolution, display mode, graphics settings, or the selected GPU—or if the game consistently fails while loading your session. Do not delete a save folder as a first step.
- Close the game and both launchers.
- Look for The Crew 2 folders under
Documents,Saved Games, or the installation directory. Locations can vary by build and storefront. - Back up any relevant folder you identify.
- Rename the suspected settings folder rather than deleting it.
- Relaunch the game and let it create fresh settings. Test before restoring anything.
Renaming gives you a way back if controls, graphics preferences, or local progress are affected. Cloud synchronization may restore old settings or overwrite local changes, depending on launcher state. If you cannot identify a settings folder with confidence, skip this step and ask support rather than guessing. A reset is not a replacement for verifying files.

8. Gather evidence and contact Ubisoft Support
Stop cycling through speculative fixes if the game still crashes on a supported PC after file verification and launcher checks. Before opening a support case, record:
- Windows version and build; CPU, GPU, and RAM; and whether the PC is a laptop or desktop.
- Which storefront installed the game and which Ubisoft account is signed in.
- When the crash occurs: launch, menu, Continue/Start Your Story, or gameplay.
- Exact error text, when the problem began, and any recent game, Windows, driver, launcher, or hardware changes.
- Whether verification completed, overlays and peripherals were disabled, and whether other games crash.
Attach relevant crash-report information, Ubisoft Connect logs, Windows Event Viewer or Reliability Monitor entries, GPU-driver reports, or a short recording of the failure. Ubisoft’s privacy policy describes diagnostic data that may include crash reports, logs, configuration data, and game or service versions (Ubisoft privacy policy).
Escalate promptly if other games also crash, the PC reboots or blue-screens, you see graphics artifacts, or temperatures and power behavior suggest instability. If you overclock or undervolt the CPU, GPU, or RAM, return those components to stock settings while testing; a game can expose instability that other software does not.

Should you reinstall?
Reinstall only after the earlier checks, and particularly if verification repeatedly fails, the installation is damaged, the launcher is corrupted, or the game was moved between drives or storefronts. Reinstallation is slow and will not fix account authentication, a driver problem, an overlay conflict, or unstable hardware. A VPN is not a standard crash fix: it can add latency or interfere with authentication, and community reports do not establish it as an official solution. Do not download replacement DLLs, modified executables, cracks, or “optimizer” utilities. Running as administrator or using compatibility mode is not a reliable general fix; consider either only as a limited, reversible test after normal launcher troubleshooting.
