The First Descendant supports cross-platform multiplayer between Steam, Xbox, and PS5. To play with a specific friend, open Map > Social > Search Player, find their account name, send a friend request, and then use Party Invitation. You can also invite nearby or recently matched players, join public parties through Party Finder, or request help during a solo mission.
These instructions reflect the current Social and Party Finder systems. Menu names and available activities can change with later updates.
Does The First Descendant have crossplay?
Yes. The First Descendant supports crossplay across Steam, Xbox, and PS5. Nexon’s February 2026 Xbox PC launch notice also confirms crossplay and cross-progression with the existing platforms. See the official Xbox PC launch notice and current platform listings for the latest support information.
You do not need to rely on your Steam, PlayStation, or Xbox friends list. The game has its own player search and invitation tools.

How to add a friend
Using Search Player
- Open the Map. On PC, the default shortcut is G.
- Select Social.
- Open Search Player.
- Enter your friend’s complete in-game account name.
- Select the player and choose Friend Requests.
The account name uses this format:
PlatformProfileName#0000The final four characters are randomly assigned. Your account name appears in the upper-right corner of the character lobby. Nexon says the game automatically uses the nickname from the first platform you accessed, so you do not have to create a separate account name before playing. See Nexon’s guidance on account-name formatting and how account names are created.
Adding a nearby player
Open the Interaction Menu in one of these ways:
- Select the player in Player List.
- Select the player’s character name in the chat box.
- On PC, press and hold T while standing near the player.
Choose Friend Requests from the menu. The same menu also includes Party Invitation, Block, Whisper, and Report.
Adding someone from Recent Players
Open Map (G) > Social > Recent Players. This list includes players with whom you recently formed a party or completed missions. Select a player and use Friend Requests or Party Invitation.
How to invite a friend to your party
- Open Map (G) > Social > Friends.
- Select the friend.
- Choose Party Invitation.
- Have your friend accept the invitation.
You can send the same invitation from Player List, Recent Players, or the chat box by opening the player’s Interaction Menu.

How to accept a friend or party invitation
New friend requests and party invitations appear as a notification near the top-right of the screen. On PC, hold F2 to view party-invitation details.

If you missed the notification, open Map (G) > Social > Received Requests. Party invitations are temporary and disappear if they are not accepted in time, so send a new invitation if the original request is no longer listed.
What can you do in co-op?
Parties can play together in battlefield missions and can start a Void Intercept Battle together. The party leader must handle activities that require a zone move or dungeon-entry request.
The game also offers Support Request, which is different from a normal party invitation. While alone in a mission, open Game Menu (ESC) > Support Request. On PC:
- T: Normal Support Request
- R: Friend Support Request
Other players can view requests through Map (G) > Social > Support Request. Accepting one transports the assisting player to the requester’s battlefield mission. If that battlefield has reached its player limit, the requester’s mission is paused and restarted in a new battlefield with the joining players. A request cannot be sent again if nobody joins during its request period.
How to use Party Finder
For supported activities, open the activity-entry screen and look for the Party Finder button. Party Finder uses social tags associated with the selected content.

When solo, Solo Join Party can offer:
- Recommended Party: choose from suitable listed parties.
- Quick Join: immediately join a suitable party.
- Recruit Party: create a recruitment listing if no suitable party is found.
Older guides may show separate Join Party and Recruit Party menus as if they are always available. That description is outdated: the available option now depends on whether you are solo, the party leader, or a party member.

Activities that support Party Finder
Party Finder has been enabled for selected activities, including versions of:
- Void Intercept Battle
- Special Operation
- Infiltration Operation
- Void Erosion Purge
- Sigma Sector
- Void Vessel-072
Exact difficulty names can change after updates. In particular, Update 1.3.34 removed Void Intercept Battle: Abyss and Challenge, and renamed Void Intercept Battle: Hard to Extreme. If an older guide uses different names, check the current in-game activity list and recent official patch notes.
How to recruit players you do not know
- Open the party screen.
- Select Recruit Party.
- Open Settings and configure the recruitment conditions.
- Turn party recruitment On.
Recruitment filters can include minimum Mastery Rank, specified Descendants, social tags, language, region, and ping priority. Your party can appear in the Featured Party list for players who match those conditions.
Recruitment ends when matchmaking starts. A recruiting party is also removed from Featured Party after two hours. Players can join through Recommended Party or immediately use Quick Join. If a player tries and fails to join, the game removes that party from the Recommended Party list instead of leaving a stale listing.
Why can’t I see the right Party Finder options?
Party Finder is not available for every activity. It appears only for supported content, and social tags remain unavailable until the associated content has been unlocked. A party member also cannot use Party Finder to begin another recruitment; the party leader must do it.
The available social tags depend on the content you have unlocked. This means a missing tag or activity can be an unlock restriction rather than a multiplayer error.

Troubleshooting friend invitations
The invitation is missing
Check Map (G) > Social > Received Requests. If it is not there, the temporary invitation may have expired. Send a new one.
My friend does not appear in the platform friends list
Use Map > Social > Search Player and enter the complete account name, including the #0000 suffix. The in-game Friends list and platform friend lists are separate systems.

We are friends, but Party Invitation is unavailable
Check whether the player is already in a full party, cannot currently receive invitations, is in a restricted matchmaking state, or has blocked the other player. Blocking prevents party matching and chat with that user.
Xbox crossplay or invitations do not work
On Xbox, open the relevant Xbox Profile privacy settings and allow:
- You can join multiplayer games
- You can join cross-network play
- Others can communicate with voice, text, or invites
- You can communicate outside of the Xbox network with voice & text, when communicating with players outside Xbox Network
These console permissions can block multiplayer or cross-platform invitations even when The First Descendant itself is working. See Nexon’s Xbox crossplay support article.
My friend joined, but we cannot travel together
The party leader must move the party to another zone or request dungeon entry. Party members cannot perform those actions independently.
A guide says to disable crossplay on PC
That advice is not supported by Nexon’s stated PC matchmaking design. Nexon previously said it would not add a PC crossplay on/off option because separating the pool would fragment matchmaking. PC matchmaking instead prioritizes nearby regions and same-platform players before expanding to other platforms. See the relevant official matchmaking explanation.
The Social screen shows incorrect information
Nexon reported and fixed a Social-tab display issue in Hotfix 1.3.31b. If the Social screen still looks incorrect after updating, return to the title screen and reconnect so the client can apply current hotfixes.
