The HONOR Pad GT2 Pro is a serious gaming tablet, not merely a fast Android slate with an oversized screen. Its 12.5-inch 165Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform, 10,100mAh battery and eight-speaker system make large-screen gaming feel intentional rather than compromised. The catch is just as important: it launched in China, and importing one can erase much of its apparent value through price, software and warranty friction.
Short verdict: this is most compelling for enthusiasts who want a couch-friendly Android gaming machine and are comfortable checking a China-ROM import carefully. It is a weaker recommendation for anyone who needs straightforward US retail support, predictable Google services, easy returns or a compact handheld.
What the HONOR Pad GT2 Pro is
HONOR launched the Pad GT2 Pro in China in July 2025 as a performance-focused tablet. The company builds its pitch around responsiveness, sustained gaming, audio, networking and external peripherals rather than treating gaming as one feature among many. Its official product page highlights a 165Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 10,100mAh battery, cooling system, eight speakers, gaming antennas and PC-style peripheral support (HONOR).

Those are Chinese launch prices, reported by HONOR community launch material, not guaranteed international transaction prices. The tablet comes in Crystal White and Phantom Gray. It measures 277.80 × 190.93 × 5.95mm and weighs about 532g, according to HONOR’s specifications (full specifications).

For buyers outside China, availability is the first product question. Notebookcheck reported direct-import US pricing of approximately $624 or more plus shipping; that was a dated market signal, not a fixed August 2026 price (Notebookcheck).
Why the 165Hz screen changes the gaming format
The 12.5-inch LCD runs at up to 165Hz, with 3048 × 2032 resolution, 294ppi, a 270Hz touch-sampling rate, 700-nit typical brightness and 1,000-nit peak brightness claims. HONOR lists seven selectable refresh rates: 165Hz, 144Hz, 120Hz, 90Hz, 60Hz, 48Hz and 30Hz. Contrast is specified at 1500:1, with an 89% screen-to-body ratio.

- Refresh rate is how often the panel can update.
- Game frame rate is how many frames the software actually renders.
- Touch sampling describes how frequently touch input is read.
- Sustained frame rate is what remains after heat and power limits have had time to matter.
A 165Hz panel therefore does not make every game a 165fps game. HONOR says refresh rate can vary by application and interface. It specifically claims native 165fps support for the mobile CrossFire title (穿越火线-枪战王者) through its Phantom Engine; that is a vendor claim, not independent testing (ITHome).

In supported competitive games, higher refresh and touch sampling can make camera movement, scrolling and input feel more immediate. Many demanding games remain capped at 60 or 120fps, where the panel’s extra headroom is useful mainly for menus, supported modes and system animation. Running at 165Hz can also use more power, so 120Hz is the more sensible everyday setting when a game does not benefit from the maximum.
The LCD’s strengths are resolution, speed and brightness rather than OLED-like blacks. It should avoid OLED burn-in concerns, but dark scenes will not have OLED contrast. The broad aspect ratio can also produce black bars or unusual framing in phone-designed games.
Performance: flagship hardware, incomplete evidence
The tablet uses Qualcomm’s third-generation Snapdragon 8 platform, commonly called Snapdragon 8 Gen 3. HONOR lists an eight-core design with a 3.3GHz Cortex-X4 prime core alongside Cortex-A720 performance cores and Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. That is appropriate hardware for demanding Android games, high-resolution rendering and emulation workloads.

It would be wrong to turn the processor name into guaranteed performance. Actual results depend on each game’s graphics settings, frame cap, renderer, firmware and thermal state.

What to expect in principle
- Competitive games with high-refresh modes are the clearest use for the 165Hz panel.
- Open-world games should benefit from the chip and large battery, but sustained performance still needs measurement after 20–30 minutes.
- Emulation potential is attractive, yet compatibility varies by emulator, game, renderer and controller; it is not a promise of universal console performance.
HONOR’s “Ice-Sealed” cooling system and Phantom Engine are design claims, not proof that the thin tablet stays cool indefinitely. The important questions are where heat accumulates, whether the frame rate falls during long sessions, and whether a case or charging cable blocks heat dissipation.
The size is the point—and the compromise
At 12.5 inches and roughly 532g, the Pad GT2 Pro is closer to a portable gaming display than a traditional handheld. In landscape orientation it gives open-world maps, strategy interfaces and emulation overlays room to breathe. Virtual controls are less cramped, split-screen use is more practical, and a stand or controller makes the format feel deliberate.
The same dimensions make it less comfortable to hold for long periods than an 8–9-inch gaming tablet. Adding a controller makes the setup wider still. This is best understood as couch, desk or travel-table gaming—not a device that disappears into one hand.

HONOR specifies a 10,100mAh typical battery (10,000mAh rated) and charging up to 66W, with compatibility listed for 40W, 35W, 22.5W and 10W charging (HONOR specifications). Capacity is a meaningful advantage, but it is not battery life. Runtime changes with refresh rate, brightness, game engine, network, performance mode, speakers and temperature.

For practical use, 165Hz makes sense for supported competitive games, 120Hz is a useful balance, and 60Hz is sensible for streaming or long travel sessions. HONOR’s Chinese specification lists a charger and USB-C cable in the box, but an imported package should be checked seller by seller.
Audio, controls and network features
The tablet has eight speakers with spatial-audio positioning, USB-C with OTG support, Bluetooth 5.4 and Wi-Fi 7. HONOR lists Wi-Fi 7 features including 2×2 MIMO, multi-link operation, 4096-QAM and 160MHz channels. Those benefits require a compatible router and suitable network environment; they do not automatically reduce internet-game latency.
The complete control experience still depends on accessories and game support:
- Bluetooth controllers offer the simplest cable-free setup, but latency varies by controller and radio environment.
- USB-C controllers, keyboards, mice and hubs can be useful, subject to Android and game-specific support.
- Key mapping is not guaranteed across games; verify whether a title supports external input natively.
- A landscape case with a stable kickstand can matter as much as the tablet because it removes the need to hold 532g while using a controller.
HONOR’s “gaming antenna” and PC-style peripheral language should be treated as feature claims until measured against a comparable tablet on the same network and with the same accessories.

China-ROM software is the biggest ownership risk
HONOR lists the Chinese model with MagicOS 9.0.1 based on Android 15. That does not mean it behaves like a global HONOR tablet. Firmware, language choices, Google services, notifications, app stores, DRM, updates and warranty can differ by region and seller.
Before importing, confirm all of the following:
- The exact model number and ROM region.
- Whether Google Play and Google Mobile Services are preinstalled, officially supported or merely installable.
- Whether the seller modified the firmware and whether over-the-air updates still work.
- Compatibility with banking apps, streaming services and the required Widevine DRM level.
- The available languages and any preinstalled Chinese applications.
- The seller’s return window and the location, terms and exclusions of warranty service.
- The charger plug, included accessories and local Wi-Fi-band compatibility.
- How customs, taxes and declared value will be handled.
A China ROM may be perfectly usable for one buyer and frustrating for another. It is a purchase condition, not a minor footnote.
Is the low Chinese price still a bargain abroad?
Converting 2,499 yuan into dollars can make the entry model look like a roughly $349 tablet, but conversion is not landed cost. Import markup, shipping, taxes, exchange rates, accessories and warranty risk all change the calculation. The reported US direct-import figure of about $624 or more illustrates how far the real purchase can move from the Chinese launch price.

A cheaper specification sheet is less persuasive when a failed unit must cross borders for service.
How it compares with alternatives

Who should buy the HONOR Pad GT2 Pro?
It makes sense for
- Competitive mobile players whose games support high refresh rates.
- RPG, strategy and open-world players who value a large view.
- Emulation enthusiasts who understand that compatibility must be checked title by title.
- Buyers who want a large Android gaming screen rather than a compact handheld.
- Importers willing to verify ROM, Google services, warranty and seller quality.
Choose something else when
- Official local retail support and easy returns are essential.
- Banking, enterprise or DRM-sensitive apps must work without troubleshooting.
- You expect every game to run at 165fps.
- You prefer a tablet that can be held comfortably like a handheld console.
- You want OLED contrast, a mature accessory network or clear long-term update commitments.
- The imported price approaches a better-supported global tablet.
Final verdict
The HONOR Pad GT2 Pro makes tablet gaming more convincing by committing to the format: a large, fast screen, flagship-class Android hardware, a large battery, expansive audio and support for external controls. It does not make every game faster, and its cooling, battery runtime and app compatibility still require device-specific testing.
Its decisive weakness is not the hardware. It is the ownership equation outside China. For a technically confident enthusiast, the Pad GT2 Pro can be an unusually compelling import. For everyone else, a globally supported tablet may deliver a better experience even if its specification sheet looks less extreme.
