Sony announced its The Last of Us Limited Edition DualSense on March 6, 2025; it launched April 10, 2025, at an announced U.S. price of $84.99. It is a standalone, standard PS5 DualSense with franchise artwork—not a console bundle, a new game, or a DualSense Edge. Current listings may be used, refurbished, or priced well above that launch price.
What Sony announced
Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed the DualSense wireless controller – The Last of Us Limited Edition as a standalone PS5 accessory. Sony described it as available in limited quantities, but did not announce a production total or say that individual controllers are numbered. The announcement included design commentary from Naughty Dog personnel. It did not announce exclusive controller hardware, firmware, or gameplay features.
Sony’s announcement and design details
Design: both games, not just one
The controller has a predominantly black-and-white shell with glossy trophy icons printed across its body. Its back carries The Last of Us branding, and the prominent franchise references include the Firefly logo, a moth, and a wolf. Sony said the trophy treatment was intended to reflect the series’ history and themes. The design draws on both The Last of Us Part I and Part II, rather than centering on a single character or installment.
Preorders, release date and launch price
Sony announced the controller on March 6, 2025. Preorders opened March 14, 2025, at 7 a.m. Pacific Time in the United States and at 10 a.m. local time in the named European markets below. It launched April 10, 2025. Sony cautioned that timing and availability could vary by country.

The European preorder timing named the U.K., France, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg. These are Sony’s announced March 2025 launch prices, not a guarantee of what a buyer will pay now; seller, stock, tax, shipping, and condition affect current checkout prices.
Features and compatibility
Functionally, this is a standard DualSense with themed artwork. It has the usual DualSense controls and features, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, a built-in microphone, a headset jack, a mute button, a Create button, motion sensing, and a rechargeable battery with USB-C charging. Individual features depend on the game, device, operating system, and connection method.

- PS5: Its intended platform; games must support specific DualSense features to use them.
- PC: Compatible use depends on the game and setup. Some advanced features may require game support and a wired connection.
- Apple devices and Remote Play: PlayStation lists support for compatible devices and software, but available functions vary.
- PS4: Do not assume ordinary plug-and-play DualSense support. PlayStation’s compatibility information focuses on PS5 and supported PC, Mac, mobile, and Remote Play setups.

What comes in the package?
Sony announced a standalone controller, not a bundle. The announcement does not promise a copy of The Last of Us Part I or The Last of Us Part II Remastered, a charging cable, stand, certificate, or other collectible extras. A retailer may create its own bundle; that should not be confused with Sony’s announced package.

Check before paying
- Confirm whether the item is new, pre-owned, or refurbished, and whether “new” means factory sealed.
- Identify the actual seller and fulfiller; a product page on a large retailer’s site does not by itself mean that retailer is selling the unit.
- Read the warranty and return terms, particularly for marketplace and used listings.
- Check that the listing is for Sony’s controller, not a compatible lookalike, a retailer-created bundle, or a listing with unrelated extras.
- Compare the final delivered price with the $84.99 U.S. launch price rather than treating an elevated listing as Sony’s current official price.
For comparison, a marketplace bundle combining the controller with unrelated items is not evidence of Sony packaging: example third-party bundle listing.

Is it worth buying?
Buy it for the design
It makes sense for a The Last of Us fan or collector who values the official artwork, prefers a familiar standard DualSense layout, and finds a legitimate unit at a price they accept. Treat collectability as a personal reason to buy, not a promise of future value.

If artwork is secondary, compare the themed version with a standard-color DualSense. The limited edition does not add performance over the standard controller, so paying a premium buys the design rather than extra controls or gameplay capability.

Look at the DualSense Edge for customization
The Edge is the more relevant alternative for players seeking modular or customizable controls. The The Last of Us model is not an Edge: it does not offer Edge-style rear paddles, swappable sticks, adjustable triggers, or remappable controls.
Be selective about a premium
Prices above $100 in the cited retailer snapshots reflect retailer or marketplace listings, not an announced Sony price reset. A premium may be acceptable to someone seeking a sealed themed controller, but check seller, condition, and buyer protections before paying it.
