Reported leaks from The Legend of Zelda live-action movie set have shown glimpses of the production, but they do not confirm the film’s story or which game it draws from. Nintendo’s official announcement names Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda, and sets the planned worldwide theatrical release for April 30, 2027. The studio’s official production images are separate from unofficial set footage and leaked imagery.
What does the leaked Zelda movie footage show?
In November 2025, Zelda Dungeon reported that videos and photos from the New Zealand set were circulating online. That report described unofficial material; it is not the same as images Nintendo later published officially.
A separate report in April 2026 focused on a now-deleted image attributed to cinematographer Gyula Pados. GamesRadar+ described Link wearing green and carrying a Hylian Shield and Master Sword. Those are details reported from the image, not a formal studio reveal of the film’s complete character designs.
Are the Zelda movie set photos official?
| Material | Source and timing | What it establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Set videos and photos | Unofficial material reported from the New Zealand set in November 2025 by Zelda Dungeon. | That footage and photos were reportedly circulating; they do not establish the film’s complete design or story. |
| Image attributed to Gyula Pados | A now-deleted social image covered by GamesRadar+ in April 2026. | The report described Link in green with a Hylian Shield and Master Sword. The image is not an official design announcement. |
| Nintendo production images and announcements | Published by Nintendo through official channels. | Official production material and the announced cast, premise, title, and release date; it should not be labeled leaked footage. |
Nintendo’s initial November 2025 response context matters: at the time of the reported set leak, Nintendo, Sony, and the filmmakers had not commented on it. Nintendo later confirmed filming had begun and shared official production imagery. A studio-published still remains official even if it shows the same production or characters as leaked material.

Who plays Link and Zelda, and when does the movie release?
Nintendo’s official English announcement dated September 8, 2026 identifies Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda. It describes the movie as based on Nintendo’s The Legend of Zelda action-adventure game series, gives the film’s title as The Legend of Zelda, and lists April 30, 2027 as the planned worldwide theatrical release date. Nintendo’s Japanese title and release announcement also gives the title and date.
Does Link’s costume reveal which Zelda game the movie adapts?
No particular game adaptation is confirmed by the reported images. A green tunic, shield, and sword are not enough to establish that the film adapts Twilight Princess, Breath of the Wild, or another installment. Nor do the images establish plot details or identify additional characters. Nintendo’s announcement confirms the broad basis—the game series—but does not name a specific game as the film’s source.
