Yes: Backyard Baseball ’97, the original 1997 game, launched on iOS and Android on March 27, 2025. The “first time” applies to this original game—not the wider Backyard Sports franchise, which had earlier mobile releases.
When did Backyard Baseball ’97 come to mobile?
The iOS and Android release arrived on March 27, 2025. It followed the game’s PC release on Steam on October 10, 2024. Gematsu reported a U.S. launch price of $4.99; that is a historical launch price, not a guarantee of today’s price or regional availability. Gematsu’s launch report has the release details.
Is this the original 1997 game?
Yes. The mobile edition is presented as Backyard Baseball ’97, bringing the original 1997 game to modern phones and tablets. “For the first time” refers to this original game reaching mobile. It does not mean the franchise had never been on phones: FOX Sports reported that earlier Backyard Baseball and Backyard Basketball mobile versions were released in 2015.
What does the mobile edition include?
Playground Productions’ store descriptions list familiar ways to play and a 30-character roster, including Pablo Sanchez. They describe quick pickup games, single games, batting practice, T-ball, and a season mode. The season is described as 14 games followed by playoffs and championship rounds. How the modern release was made
Playground Productions says it did not have access to the original source code and notes that this imposes limits on the experience it could create. The publisher describes the release as a digital-preservation effort; Gematsu reported that Playground Productions worked with Mega Cat Studios on the adaptation. It should not be described as a rebuild made from the original source code.
