This was a historical Black Friday deal, not a confirmed current Amazon price. On November 23, 2024, Amazon listed the PS5 Slim Digital Edition for $374, down from $449; the disc-drive model was $424, down from $499. TechRadar called both the lowest prices it had tracked at the time. The under-$400 offer was specifically for the Digital Edition, which has no built-in disc drive.

The prices were reported by TechRadar on November 23, 2024. Tom’s Guide also reported the disc model at $424, down from $499, in its Black Friday 2024 coverage. The $374 figure is the standout price, but it applies only to the Digital Edition. Both reported prices were before any applicable tax.

How to read the “record-low” claim
“Record-low” here means the lowest price TechRadar said it had tracked for these models at that time. It is not proof of the lowest price ever across every seller, region, bundle, coupon, used or open-box listing, or later promotion. Digital or disc: which PS5 Slim made more sense?
The two consoles offer the core PS5 platform experience in the Slim design. The central buying difference is the disc drive, not a different class of games or a lower-performance Digital Edition. Sony’s PS5 product page and features page provide official platform information.
Choose the $374 Digital Edition if
- You buy games through the PlayStation Store and do not rely on physical copies.
- You do not own PS4 game discs and do not want to borrow, share, or resell discs.
- You want the lowest upfront price and are comfortable with a library tied to your account.
- You do not need the console to play Blu-ray discs.
The lower purchase price can be a real saving for a digital-only player. But it also gives up the ability to shop used physical games, take advantage of disc-specific bargains, lend or borrow a copy, or resell a game after finishing it. Digital sales can be worthwhile, but the buyer has less flexibility over where and how games are acquired.

Pay $50 more for the $424 disc model if
- You own PS4 discs or expect to buy physical PS5 games.
- You use used-game shops, share games with family or friends, or resell games.
- You want disc-based Blu-ray playback.
For a buyer who uses those options, the disc model’s $50 premium could be recovered through physical-game savings or resale. That depends on what you actually buy; the disc model is not automatically better value for someone who purchases everything digitally.
The Digital Edition can support a compatible detachable disc drive, but adding one later costs extra. Do not assume that converting it later preserves the original $50 saving: compare the drive’s current price and compatibility before deciding.

What was included—and what to verify
The reported offers were for the consoles, and TechRadar said each included a DualSense wireless controller. The exact box contents can vary with listing, bundle, region, and seller. Confirm the product page specifies the correct PS5 Slim edition and check whether any advertised game, stand, extra controller, or other accessory is actually part of that package rather than a separate promotion.
For any live Amazon offer, check that the item is new, the seller is Amazon or a reputable retailer, the listing is for the U.S. model with an appropriate U.S. warranty, and the delivery date and return terms work for you. Also check whether the displayed price depends on a selectable coupon, membership, or checkout offer. Search results and old deal pages do not establish that a price is still available.

Was it worth buying?
At $374, the Digital Edition was a strong historical entry price for someone committed to digital games. It was not the right bargain for every buyer: someone with PS4 discs or a habit of buying used games could reasonably prefer the $424 disc model. The $50 difference buys flexibility that may matter more over the life of the console than the lower checkout total.
