The Sandbox later described its gameplay during Alpha Season 5, which began March 31, 2025; that season has ended, and the available official information does not confirm whether Dinosaur Preserve is playable today.
What did The Sandbox and Jurassic World announce?
The Sandbox said it was working with Universal Products & Experiences and Amblin Entertainment to bring the Jurassic World franchise to its platform through multiple planned games and immersive experiences. The announcement also described limited-edition digital collectibles, including playable characters, dinosaurs, and wearables. The first named experience was Jurassic World: Dinosaur Preserve. The Sandbox’s March 18, 2024 announcement initially said the game would debut as the flagship release for Alpha Season 5, then scheduled for March 2025.
That timing was a plan, not the eventual start date. The Sandbox’s Alpha Season 5 guide says the season began at 14:00 UTC on March 31, 2025, and ran for six weeks.
What was Dinosaur Preserve, and how did its gameplay work?
The announced setting was an Arizona sanctuary. Players joined the fictional Dinosaur Protection Group and took on duties intended to keep the park’s facilities and prehistoric inhabitants safe. The 2024 announcement described exploration, quests, and a limited-quantity dinosaur egg collection: players could hatch and evolve species of varying rarity, including Tyrannosaurus and Velociraptors.

The Sandbox’s 2025 guide supplied more detail about the experience during Alpha Season 5. Players explored, collected resources, and completed park duties to earn Jurassic Points. Those points could be used to upgrade the sanctuary or grow dinosaur eggs. The guide also listed dynamic events such as sandstorms and wildfires, randomized challenges, a day-night cycle, an ecosystem to manage, and weekly quests. It said hatched dinosaurs could be kept as digital collectibles in a wallet or placed in a player’s Sandbox experience. These are mechanics documented for that season, not confirmation that the game currently works the same way.
When did Alpha Season 5 run, and what did it include?
According to The Sandbox’s 2025 guide, Alpha Season 5 started March 31, 2025, at 14:00 UTC and ran for six weeks. The company described a season island with six regions and more than 40 experiences, content from more than 20 partner brands, and an advertised maximum of up to $1 million USD in rewards. The guide also listed up to 710 SAND available to players and 65+ NFTs, including wearables, equipment, and keys. These were season-specific offers and figures published by The Sandbox; the maximum reward amount is not evidence of an independently verified payout, and none of the figures should be read as a current earning opportunity.
Are the dinosaurs NFTs, or physical toys?
The eggs, hatched dinosaurs, wearables, and other items described for the game were digital collectibles or in-platform assets. They are distinct from physical merchandise. In a separate 2025 Wildlands LAND sale, The Sandbox said Premium LAND owners received a physical Raptor Blue figurine and a T-shirt. That was a historical reward tied to the sale, not evidence of an active offer or current retail listing. The Wildlands LAND sale announcement does not establish a current price, stock, or Amazon listing for the figure.

The Sandbox’s original announcement said the platform was available free on Windows and Mac. It did not say a physical toy purchase was required to try the experience. Its announcement discussed digital collectibles and virtual-world content, while the Raptor Blue figure and shirt belonged to a separate LAND-sale reward.
Can you still play Dinosaur Preserve?
The official materials cited here establish that Dinosaur Preserve was part of Alpha Season 5 and that The Sandbox promoted a later return to the experience for quests and rewards in a July 4, 2025 movie-premiere event post. They do not establish whether the main experience remains playable on October 8, 2026. The Movie Premiere Event page showed zero experiences in its categories when accessed on that date, but that page concerns the event and does not settle the current status of Dinosaur Preserve itself. Check The Sandbox’s current platform listings for availability rather than treating past season or event details as a live offer.
