There are 10 Strange Inscriptions to photograph in Vatican City for The Secret of Giants fieldwork in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Four are found during the main story; the other six require access opened by A Savage Discovery, The Mad Priest, and A Nun in Trouble. Photograph each complete design, then return to Father Antonio and place the photos on his corkboard.
Before searching for the inscriptions
The first four inscription photos advance The Stolen Cat Mummy. The remaining six are tied to areas opened through three Fieldwork quests. If your count stops before 10, finish A Savage Discovery, The Mad Priest, and A Nun in Trouble, then select The Secret of Giants in the Journal. Its investigation zones should appear on the map; searching streets before the relevant areas are accessible will not uncover the gated inscriptions.
The formal start of the fieldwork comes after Antonio examines the Warrior Giant’s Parchment and Indy leaves the Apostolic Library. The landmarks below are a practical route reference; guides may number the locations differently, so follow the landmark names rather than another guide’s numbering.
All 10 Strange Inscription locations
- Belvedere Courtyard balcony: At the courtyard’s south end, use the whip and scaffolding to reach the balcony. Check its southwest corner.
- Fenced area after meeting Gina: Progress through the Tower of Nicholas V and the catacombs until you meet Gina. After using the zipline, turn back through the gap in the fence and search the corner of the lower area.
- Tower of Nicholas V sewer passage: During The Mad Priest, climb from the sewers toward the passage leading to the Apostolic Palace. Look along the route.
- Approach to the Fountain of Confession: Search the path toward the fountain in Vatican City’s southwest area.
- Belvedere Courtyard fountain: Check the fountain in the center of the courtyard.
- Garden east of the Vatican: Enter through the gate on the eastern side and look in the garden’s northeast corner.
- Excavation Site: Search the northwest corner of the site in the southeast part of Vatican City.
- Museum Wing garden: This area opens during A Nun in Trouble. Enter through the Blackshirt base at the north end of Belvedere Courtyard, follow the interior route to the garden, then climb the northwest stairs.
- Locked room beneath the Post Office: During A Savage Discovery, access the room below the Post Office and search its southwest corner.
- Sistine Chapel exterior rooftop: Climb the exterior scaffolding and wall to reach the small rooftop.
How to take a valid inscription photo
Frame the entire inscription design closely before taking the picture. If Indy says the angle is wrong, move to a different position or adjust the zoom until the complete design fits in the frame. Objective Location Markers can also help identify the investigation areas; enable them in the Adventure Experience options if you want that assistance.

Turn in the photos to complete the fieldwork
- After photographing all 10 Strange Inscriptions, return to Father Antonio’s office.
- Place the photos on his corkboard. This completes The Secret of Giants fieldwork and awards an Ancient Relic.
What the inscription sequence may depict
One guide author reads the images as a possible sequence involving the Nephilim, a weapon, human figures, a demonic opponent, and a growing plant. That is an interpretation of the pictures, not a confirmed official explanation. The candle pattern discussed alongside the images is for a separate Underworld lamp puzzle and is not required to finish this fieldwork.
