There is no verified VPN location that guarantees bot-heavy Call of Duty: Warzone matches. Egypt, Kenya, Nigeria, Cambodia, Kyrgyzstan, Taiwan, Vietnam, India, Turkey and South Africa are commonly suggested as places to test, but those recommendations come from third-party guides and reports—not public Activision matchmaking data. The most useful location is the one that gives you a stable connection from where you actually play; an easier-feeling lobby is uncertain, while extra latency is a predictable risk.
VPN locations players commonly test
The country lists in VPN guides differ, which is a reason to treat them as starting points rather than a ranking. None of the locations below has been independently established as a reliable source of bot lobbies.

Egypt is a reasonable first experiment if a provider offers a suitable route and the resulting connection is stable. It is one of the most frequently recommended choices, not a proven best location. Other guides also name Chile, Singapore, Israel and Kazakhstan, but recommendations vary. ComputerCity and PCrisk illustrate how much these lists differ.

A VPN endpoint near a game data center may be useful for testing a route or latency, but being near a data center does not demonstrate that matchmaking will be easier. What “bot lobby” can mean
Players use “bot lobby” loosely. It might mean a match with actual AI opponents, where the mode includes them; a match against inexperienced human players; or simply a lobby that feels easier than usual. These are not interchangeable. A limited-matchmaking lobby is different again: Activision describes that state in connection with accounts suspected of violating policy. It is not a desirable shortcut to easy matches.
What a VPN can—and cannot—change
A VPN changes the apparent IP address and network route used by your device. That may affect routing or how an online service estimates your region, but it does not erase account history, skill indicators, weapon proficiency or recent performance. Nor does an exit server prove that the game will use only nearby players, or that the people in your match are physically in that country.

Warzone matchmaking behavior is not publicly documented in enough detail to establish that a VPN bypasses skill-based matchmaking. Latency, queue time, playlist, party composition, player availability and ordinary match-to-match variation can all matter. When a region has fewer available players, the queue might take longer or the matchmaker might draw from a wider pool; it might not produce an easier lobby at all. Third-party guides acknowledge that results vary, but their location claims are not controlled evidence. PCrisk’s guide is one example of that caveat.
When to test
Some guides suggest trying a region during its local off-peak hours, often around 1–4 a.m. or 3–7 a.m. These are community heuristics, not Activision rules or verified matchmaking windows. The theory is that fewer players could mean a smaller pool and potentially broader matching. The same condition can instead mean longer queues or no meaningful change. Record the destination’s local time and compare multiple sessions rather than treating a particular hour as a switch that forces easier matches.

How to compare locations fairly
- Establish a baseline. Play several matches without a VPN. Record latency, packet loss if shown, queue duration, playlist, squad size and how competitive the matches feel. Note whether opponents appear to be AI only when the mode makes that identifiable; do not assume an easy human lobby is a bot lobby.
- Pick a small test set. Start with a nearby, regionally practical location. Then choose one or two frequently cited candidates—such as Egypt, Kenya, Cambodia, Taiwan or South Africa—only if a suitable endpoint is available. A city or country label alone does not tell you whether a server is physical, virtual or well routed.
- Keep conditions comparable. Use the same playlist, squad configuration, input setup and approximate playtime. Test each location across multiple sessions. Comparing a solo weekday-morning match with a full squad on a weekend evening tells you little about the VPN endpoint.
- Track the connection as well as the lobby. Note latency, jitter or instability, packet loss, queue duration and any voice-chat or login issues. Prefer consistent gameplay over a single low ping reading or one easy match.
- Set a stop condition. If the route causes rubber-banding, delayed hit registration, connection errors or consistently worse play, disconnect and return to your normal route. An uncertain matchmaking effect is not worth a broken connection.
How much ping is too much?
There is no universal ping cutoff that applies to every player, route and match. Compare the VPN route with your own baseline. Stable latency, low packet loss and consistent hit registration matter more than a number in the VPN app. A distant endpoint may add another network leg and increase latency or jitter; a supposedly easier match does not compensate for unreliable gunfights.

On PC, a VPN can generally be installed on the computer, but firewall rules, DNS behavior, split tunneling and anti-cheat interactions can affect connectivity. Do not assume every provider’s settings behave the same way.

On PlayStation or Xbox, VPN routing is commonly handled at the router or through another network-level configuration, such as a shared computer connection. The exact setup depends on the VPN, router, operating system and console; there is no universal console menu path to give here. A VPN running on a phone does not automatically route console traffic through it. A router-level VPN can also affect other household devices and reduce performance for them.

In a cross-play party, the connection and settings of other players may influence the experience. A VPN on one device should not be assumed to determine the whole party’s matchmaking region.

Can Activision ban you for using a VPN?
Activision’s public policy does not say that ordinary VPN use alone automatically results in a ban. That is not a guarantee that every use or outcome is risk-free. Its Security and Enforcement Policy, dated July 31, 2026, covers unauthorized software or activity used to change or facilitate gameplay, gain an unfair advantage, or manipulate stats or game data. Potential enforcement outcomes include limited matchmaking, Ranked Play restrictions, temporary suspension and permanent suspension.
Using a VPN for privacy or troubleshooting is not the same claim as deliberately trying to manipulate matchmaking, but the policy does not endorse VPN-based attempts to obtain easier opponents. Do not rely on claims that a VPN is undetectable, guarantees bot lobbies or carries zero account risk. If you receive a security warning or enter limited matchmaking, stop experimenting and consult Activision’s ban-appeal and limited-matchmaking status page. Do not try to evade an enforcement action by switching VPN locations or accounts.
Alternatives that do not falsify your location
- Choose a less competitive or unranked playlist, where available, rather than treating a location change as an SBMM bypass.
- Use training modes or private matches to practice without relying on opponent selection.
- Try playing at a different time while keeping your normal connection.
- Improve local network stability with a wired connection where practical and by resolving household congestion or router problems.
- If you use a VPN for privacy, DDoS-risk reduction or routing troubleshooting, choose it for those purposes and test whether it improves or harms your actual connection—not for a promised lobby result.
Warzone modes, routing, endpoint availability, regional activity and enforcement policies can change. Treat location recommendations as provisional, not permanent settings; Activision’s Warzone support hub is the official place to check current game support information.
