The Razer BlackShark V2 Pro is the most-used headset in the available Fortnite-specific pro data. ProSettings’ July 2026 snapshot of 337 publicly recorded Fortnite player setups lists it first, followed by the HyperX Cloud II, beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, Razer BlackShark V3 Pro, and Logitech G Pro X.
That ranking answers “what do tracked pros use?”—not “which headset is best for every player?” Your room, platform, microphone requirements, comfort preferences, and choice between wired and wireless audio matter just as much. Pro adoption is a useful starting point, but it is not an independent performance test or a guarantee of better aim, clearer footsteps, or lower latency.
The headsets Fortnite pros use most
The following figures come from ProSettings’ Fortnite headset guide, which recorded 337 players in its July 2026 dataset.
| Rank | Headset | Players | Share | Format | Best fit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Razer BlackShark V2 Pro | 61 | 18.10% | Wireless, closed-back, built-in microphone | Players who want the leading tracked pro choice without a cable |
| 2 | HyperX Cloud II | 29 | 8.61% | Wired, closed-back, built-in microphone | Players who want a simple plug-in headset |
| 2 | beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro | 29 | 8.61% | Wired, open-back, no built-in microphone | PC players in quiet rooms with a separate mic |
| 4 | Razer BlackShark V3 Pro | 28 | 8.31% | Wireless, closed-back, detachable microphone | Players seeking a current premium Razer model |
| 5 | Logitech G Pro X | 22 | 6.53% | Wired, closed-back, built-in microphone | Players who prefer a conventional wired esports headset |
The same source records other models, including the HyperX Cloud Alpha, HyperX Cloud III, Logitech G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED, and SteelSeries headsets. The ranking is a snapshot of publicly recorded setups—not an official Epic Games census, a tournament-wide hardware audit, or proof that a particular player still uses the listed model today.

It also mixes different audio philosophies. The list includes wireless gaming headsets, straightforward wired headsets, and an open-back studio headphone that normally needs a separate microphone. That is why popularity and suitability should be treated as separate questions.
Quick recommendations
- Most-used tracked Fortnite choice: Razer BlackShark V2 Pro.
- Current premium Razer alternative: Razer BlackShark V3 Pro.
- Simple wired option: HyperX Cloud II.
- Open-back option: beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro, provided you have a quiet room and separate microphone.
- Wired esports-style alternative: Logitech G Pro X.
- Wireless Logitech alternative: Logitech G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED, which should be considered a separate product from the wired G Pro X.
- Best for avoiding battery management: A wired headset such as the HyperX Cloud II or Logitech G Pro X.
Razer BlackShark V2 Pro: the most-used tracked choice
The BlackShark V2 Pro is the clearest answer if your question is strictly, “Which headset do the most Fortnite pros use?” It accounts for 61 of the 337 setups in the cited dataset, or 18.10%.
It is a purpose-built wireless gaming headset with an integrated microphone, making it a complete communication setup rather than a headphone that needs extra equipment. It is particularly appealing if you dislike cable drag and want to follow the most common model in the available Fortnite-specific data.
There are important qualifications. The V2 Pro is an older generation than the V3 Pro, regional versions and stock can differ, and a pro-usage percentage says nothing conclusive about your preferred EQ, comfort, microphone quality, battery experience, or positional imaging. Check the exact edition and platform support before buying.

The HyperX Cloud II is tied for second in the Fortnite dataset, with 29 recorded players. Its appeal is straightforward: it is a familiar wired, closed-back gaming headset with a built-in microphone and no battery to charge.
That makes it a sensible choice for a stationary PC setup or for anyone who values simplicity over wireless freedom. A wired headset can provide the audio and voice-chat functions you need without paying for a wireless receiver, charging system, active noise cancellation, or multi-device features.
Do not assume every product labelled “Cloud II” is identical. Listings can refer to different wired, USB, analog, wireless, refurbished, or regional versions. Confirm the connectors, controls, microphone arrangement, and console compatibility of the exact product before ordering.

beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro: an open-back studio headphone
The DT 990 Pro is also tied for second, appearing in 29 recorded Fortnite setups. It is not a conventional gaming headset: it is an open-back studio headphone without an integrated boom microphone.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesbeyerdynamic’s North American product page lists 80-ohm and 250-ohm versions, a wired connection, approximately 250g weight without cable, and a displayed US price of $199.99 when checked in August 2026. The impedance version matters because some sources may drive the 80-ohm model more easily than the 250-ohm model; the correct choice depends on your PC, console, controller, amplifier, or audio interface.
Choose it only if you understand the complete setup:
- You will normally need a separate microphone for party chat, Discord, or streaming.
- Open-back earcups let sound escape and allow outside noise in.
- A noisy or shared room can make the design frustrating.
- Microphone bleed can affect recordings or teammates.
- The standard DT 990 Pro has a fixed cable. The DT 990 PRO X is a different model with a detachable cable and a 48-ohm specification.
In a quiet room, an open-back headphone may be an attractive option for someone who prefers a spacious listening experience and already owns a good microphone. It is not automatically the safer choice for a typical shared gaming room.
Razer BlackShark V3 Pro: the current premium Razer alternative
The BlackShark V3 Pro appears fourth in the Fortnite-specific snapshot, with 28 recorded players. It should be treated as a newer alternative to the V2 Pro, not as an automatic replacement or a proven performance upgrade.

Razer’s US product page listed the BlackShark V3 Pro at US$249.99 when checked in August 2026. It lists HyperSpeed Wireless Gen-2, hybrid active noise cancellation, a detachable HyperClear Full Band 12mm microphone, and platform variants for PC, Xbox, and PlayStation. See the official Razer product page for the current configuration.
The V3 Pro suits players who want a current premium wireless model and have confirmed the correct platform version. Its extra features may improve convenience, but they do not guarantee better Fortnite performance. The available usage data does not establish a controlled comparison of the V2 Pro and V3 Pro for latency, imaging, comfort, battery life, or microphone quality.

Logitech G Pro X and G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED
The wired Logitech G Pro X is fifth in the cited ranking, with 22 recorded players. It is a conventional wired esports-style headset with an integrated microphone and belongs in the same broad decision set as the HyperX Cloud II.
The Logitech G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED is a newer wireless product line that also appears in tracked player setups. Do not merge the two products in a comparison table or transfer the wired G Pro X’s 6.53% figure to the wireless successor. They have different connection systems, generations, and buying considerations.
The wired G Pro X is a reasonable fit if you prefer a familiar wired setup and want to avoid charging. The G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED is more appropriate if wireless freedom matters and you have checked the receiver, platform compatibility, included accessories, and current price.
What makes a headset good for Fortnite?
Positional clarity
Fortnite audio contains more than footsteps. You may need to separate footsteps from glider and landing cues, reloads, weapon fire, building and editing sounds, vehicles, movement, and teammate voice chat.
A heavily bass-emphasized headset can make music and explosions sound impressive while obscuring midrange details. The goal is not the biggest or loudest sound; it is consistent, intelligible information. The Fortnite headset guide similarly emphasizes comfort, positional information, and avoiding excessive bass that masks important effects.
Soundstage, imaging, and separation
- Soundstage is the perceived size or openness of the audio space.
- Imaging is how accurately a headphone places a sound within that space.
- Separation is how clearly multiple sounds remain distinct when they occur together.
A wide soundstage is not automatically better. In a busy Fortnite fight, accurate and repeatable imaging may matter more than a dramatic sense of distance. No headset can replace learning the game’s audio cues, choosing sensible settings, or developing reliable game sense.

Comfort is a performance consideration because Fortnite sessions can last for hours. Look beyond the advertised weight and consider clamp force, headband pressure, ear-pad material, heat, adjustability, glasses compatibility, replaceable pads, and whether the cable or receiver gets in your way.
Rank #4
- Comfortable Lightweight Headset Design
- Adjustable High Sensitivity Mic
- Surround Sound Ready for Xbox
- Versatile Compatibility Across Platforms
- 40mm Speakers for Superior Sound
Weight alone cannot predict comfort. Head shape, hair, glasses, room temperature, and personal tolerance can matter just as much as the number on the specification sheet.
Microphone quality
A built-in microphone should keep speech intelligible, remain positioned consistently, avoid rubbing against clothing, and reject keyboard or room noise reasonably well. If you already own a quality USB microphone, a headphone such as the DT 990 Pro may make sense. If you need plug-and-play console chat, an integrated or compatible detachable microphone is usually simpler.
Connection reliability
| Connection | Advantages | Things to check |
|---|---|---|
| 3.5mm analog | Simple, no battery, broadly familiar | Controller or PC jack quality, cable length, microphone support |
| USB | May include digital controls or software features | Platform support, USB port availability, device selection |
| 2.4GHz wireless | Low-clutter desk and freedom to move | Receiver placement, battery, firmware, platform-specific variants |
| Bluetooth | Convenient for compatible devices | Latency, microphone behavior, simultaneous audio support, console compatibility |
For serious gaming, Bluetooth should not automatically be treated as equivalent to a dedicated 2.4GHz gaming connection. Wireless support and simultaneous-device features vary by model and edition.

Closed-back versus open-back
Closed-back headsets
Closed-back designs provide more isolation, reduce leakage, and are generally safer for shared or noisy rooms. They also tend to pair naturally with integrated microphones. The trade-offs are possible heat buildup and a more enclosed presentation; some models also emphasize bass more than competitive players prefer.
Open-back headphones
Open-back models can feel spacious and allow more interaction with the room. They can be comfortable in a quiet environment, but outside noise enters and sound leaks out. They are less suitable for streaming beside a microphone, playing near other people, or gaming in a noisy room.
A useful room-based rule is simple: choose open-back if your room is quiet and you accept a separate microphone; choose closed-back if you share the space, need isolation, or want a complete headset.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Wired versus wireless for Fortnite
| Wired | Wireless | |
|---|---|---|
| Advantages | No charging, no wireless receiver, usually lower cost, simple stationary setup | Less cable drag, cleaner desk, freedom to move, convenient for switching activities |
| Trade-offs | Cable management, possible cable pulls, less freedom of movement | Battery management, receiver placement, firmware, possible interference, higher cost |
Neither connection type automatically produces better Fortnite results. A well-fitting wired headset is preferable to a wireless headset that needs constant charging or does not work correctly with your platform. Conversely, wireless freedom may be worth paying for if cable drag distracts you during long sessions.

Choosing the right headset by budget
Entry and value
Look first at discounted wired models such as the HyperX Cloud II or older wired Logitech G Pro X stock. A simple closed-back headset can provide the essential audio and microphone functions without paying for wireless, active noise cancellation, RGB, or multi-device features.
Midrange
Compare current wired HyperX and Logitech models, discounted older-generation wireless headsets, and an open-back headphone plus inexpensive microphone if your room is quiet. Compare the total system cost, not just the headphone price.
Premium
Premium options include the Razer BlackShark V3 Pro and Logitech G Pro X 2 LIGHTSPEED, along with other current wireless gaming headsets. Premium pricing generally buys convenience, materials, software, microphone options, or multi-device flexibility—not guaranteed Fortnite improvement.
Prices and availability change by region and retailer. The Razer and beyerdynamic prices above are US/North American observations from August 2026, not permanent global prices.

Exact Fortnite and platform menu labels can change between builds and devices. The reliable approach is to confirm the headset as the active output and input device at the operating-system or console level, then check Fortnite’s audio and voice-chat settings.
Headset connected but Fortnite has no sound
- Confirm the correct Windows or console output device.
- Check Fortnite’s audio output and voice-chat device settings where available.
- Confirm that the wireless receiver is connected to the intended device.
- Check the headset mute switch, volume wheel, battery, and platform volume.
Voice chat works but game audio does not
- Check whether the operating system has separated communications output from game output.
- Disable unintended monitor, controller, HDMI, or Bluetooth output.
- Re-select the headset as the default output device.
Wireless audio cuts out
- Move the receiver away from USB 3.0 congestion where practical.
- Avoid hiding the receiver behind a metal PC case or placing it far from the headset.
- Charge the headset.
- Install firmware updates only through the manufacturer’s current software.
- If supported, test the headset wired to determine whether the problem is wireless-specific.
Footsteps sound unclear
- Temporarily disable virtual surround or spatial-audio modes.
- Compare plain stereo with your chosen spatial mode.
- Do not stack multiple surround systems at once.
- Check that the left and right channels are not reversed.
- Re-check Fortnite and platform audio settings.
Microphone sounds muffled
- Confirm that a detachable boom is fully inserted.
- Check the microphone mute switch.
- Position the microphone near the corner of your mouth rather than directly in front of it.
- Confirm the correct input device and input level.
- Reduce aggressive noise suppression if it is removing speech detail.
Do you need the same headset as a pro?
No. Copying a pro’s headset can give you a sensible, competition-tested starting point, but it cannot reproduce that player’s hearing, EQ, room, platform, comfort preferences, settings, or experience.
Pros may also use sponsored equipment, keep an older headset after changing setups, or choose an unusual product because it suits their personal hearing and communication arrangement. An open-back DT 990 Pro in a pro’s setup does not mean it is the right choice for a noisy shared bedroom. A popular wireless headset does not make battery management irrelevant.
Use the pro ranking to narrow your search, then choose based on the conditions in which you actually play.
