Build around Bananarang: prioritize Quantity, Projectile speed, and Cooldown, then add one finisher—Revolver for elite and boss damage or Bow for piercing coverage—and a defensive option such as Aura or Aegis. This is a documented recommendation from an independent guide, not a verified post-patch ranking: its tracked build data is version 1.0.69, synced July 27, 2026.
Recommended Monke build at a glance
| Slot or choice | Recommendation | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Core weapon | Bananarang | Returning projectiles sweep broad lanes; invest in projectile-focused upgrades. |
| Finisher | Revolver or Bow | Revolver favors single-target finishing; Bow favors piercing line coverage. |
| Defense | Aura or Aegis | Aura adds a close-range damage field; Aegis is a shield-style weapon alternative. |
| Primary Tome order | Quantity, Projectile speed, Cooldown, then Damage | Scale the projectile pattern before adding more general damage. |
| Useful items | Battery, Turbo Socks, Mirror | Attack speed, mobility, and a defensive safety option, respectively. |

Why Bananarang calls for projectile upgrades
Bananarang is Monke’s starting weapon, described by the character guide as a returning, boomerang-style projectile. Its returning paths can cover broad lanes, so upgrades that affect the number and travel speed of projectiles reinforce what the weapon already does well. Quantity and Projectile speed are therefore the build’s defining Tome picks, with Cooldown next to support more frequent attacks. Damage is valuable, but the guide places it after those projectile-focused choices.
The passive is called Monke Grip. Megabonk.org reports that it allows wall climbing and adds +2 maximum HP per level. The character directory also lists high jump. These are guide-reported mechanics and may be patch-sensitive; avoid assuming a specific final HP total without confirming the current level cap and stacking rules in game. See the Monke character guide and character directory.

Choose one finisher and one defensive option
Revolver or Bow
| Pick | Best fit | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Revolver | Finishing individual elites and bosses | Less emphasis on piercing line coverage than Bow. |
| Bow | Hitting multiple targets along a line | Less emphasis on Revolver’s single-target finishing role. |
Choose one rather than splitting your supporting Tome investment across both. If the run offers poor options for your preferred finisher, take the viable weapon that appears and keep prioritizing Bananarang’s projectile scaling.
Aura or Aegis
| Pick | Use it when | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Aura | You want a close-range damage field. | Its value is tied to the close-range role described by the guide. |
| Aegis | You prefer a shield-style defensive weapon. | It occupies a weapon choice that could otherwise go to another attack. |
Both are alternatives in the guide, not a requirement to take both. Select according to the weapon offers and the kind of coverage your run needs.

Prioritize Tomes and items as offers appear
Tomes
- Quantity: Take it first when offered; it supports the build’s projectile-heavy core.
- Projectile speed: Take it next to improve the travel speed of the projectile pattern.
- Cooldown: Add it after the leading projectile upgrades.
- Damage: Layer it after projectile count and travel speed are established.
Experience can help you level early, but the guide notes that patches reduced its per-level bonus compared with older builds. It is an early leveling aid, not a reason to abandon the core Tome priorities. Clover increases Luck; the guide does not describe it as a critical-chance item.
Items
- Battery: The guide’s attack-speed option.
- Turbo Socks: Mobility support for moving and kiting.
- Mirror: A defensive choice described as reflecting incoming damage and granting brief invulnerability.
- Gym Sauce: A straightforward damage option.
- Forbidden Juice: Supports a critical-hit-oriented variant.
Adapt the build to randomized level-ups
The guide’s timing is a flexible progression sketch, not a guaranteed in-run script. Let the available drops and level-up choices decide the exact order.

| Run stage | What to look for | How to adapt |
|---|---|---|
| 0–3 minutes | Bananarang and Quantity or Projectile speed; Experience or Luck may help early. | Establish the core first; use early utility when the main Tome is not offered. |
| 3–7 minutes | Revolver or Bow, Battery, and Turbo Socks. | Take one finisher and favor the item that best fits the current run. |
| 7–12 minutes | Aura or Aegis and Cooldown. | Add the defensive choice that complements your existing weapon coverage. |
| After 12 minutes | Damage and, if useful, Gym Sauce; Forbidden Juice for a crit-oriented branch. | Round out the build rather than chasing a second finisher at the expense of core scaling. |
- If the finisher does not appear: Keep improving Bananarang with projectile-focused Tomes instead of forcing a specific weapon plan.
- If you need more safety: Favor Mirror or choose Aura/Aegis when offered, depending on whether you want its close-range field or shield-style role.
- If the run is offering damage-oriented choices: Gym Sauce is the simple option; reserve Forbidden Juice for a critical-hit branch.

Version and evidence limits
Megabonk.org describes itself as an independent player wiki. Its homepage says its latest tracked patch is v1.0.69, with patch data synced July 27, 2026; its character directory says the roster was reviewed through v1.0.69 on August 11, 2026. No post-v1.0.69 official patch source establishes whether Monke’s balance or these recommendations have since changed. The community Monke Builds index lists player-created alternatives, but its displayed build dates and edit metadata are inconsistent, so those entries do not establish a current ranking.
