The steps below are a suggested creative workflow based on the official feature list—not a verified, control-by-control walkthrough. Exact inputs and menus may vary by platform.
What the expanded Photo Mode can do
CD PROJEKT RED’s September 28, 2026 Remastered patch notes say the Photo Mode interface was updated and its features and options expanded. The documented tools cover subjects, camera placement, composition, and scene conditions:
- Stage characters: place characters in the shot and select poses and expressions for Geralt and characters placed in the scene.
- Shape the camera: lock a camera position, save and reuse camera presets that include position and angle, switch to a first-person view through Geralt’s eyes, and toggle camera collision with objects and walls.
- Set the scene: apply environment presets, choose weather and time of day, and adjust the intensity of weather such as rain or storms.
- Guide the frame: choose a screenshot aspect ratio, toggle Rule of Thirds lines for aspect ratios, and optionally add cinematic black bars. Camera coordinates are also shown in the interface.
- Exit with a confirmation: a confirmation step is listed to reduce accidental exits.
These are documented capabilities, not a complete menu map. The patch notes do not establish exact button mappings or that every platform handles every control identically. Piwońska’s August 25, 2026 Xbox Wire overview described the expanded mode as offering new poses, camera controls, frames, filters, models, and more; the later patch notes provide the more specific feature list.
A practical workflow for building a shot
Use this as a planning sequence, not as a claim about the game’s exact menu order. Open the mode using the method available in your version, then work from the subject outward: choose what the image is about, arrange it, frame it, and tune the setting.

1. Decide what the image should show
Pick a goal before adjusting controls: a close character portrait, a group scene, a landscape with Geralt in the frame, or an action-like tableau. A clear subject makes it easier to choose an aspect ratio and decide whether the camera should be close, wide, or at eye level.
2. Place characters and choose poses
Select from the available characters to include, then choose poses and expressions for Geralt and the characters placed in the scene. For a portrait, a single subject and expression can carry the image; for a group scene, arrange the characters so one does not obscure another. The official feature list confirms these options exist but does not specify which characters are available in every situation.

3. Compose and refine the camera
Choose the screenshot aspect ratio to suit the intended frame. Use the Rule of Thirds lines as a guide if they help balance the subject against the background, or switch on cinematic black bars for a letterboxed look. First-person view offers a view through Geralt’s eyes; it is a different framing choice from an external character portrait.
If you are iterating on a composition, lock the camera position or save a camera preset with its position and angle so you can return to it. The patch notes confirm that camera presets can be saved and reused, but do not specify a particular preset limit or an exact save sequence.

4. Set weather, time, and environment
Apply an environment preset, choose a time of day and weather, then adjust weather intensity where appropriate. These controls let you change the mood of the scene without relying on the original conditions. If walls or objects obstruct camera placement, try changing the camera-collision setting; the official notes say collision can be turned on or off.
5. Capture, then locate the screenshot
After composing, use your platform’s capture function. The available CD PROJEKT RED Photo Mode support page predates Remastered, so treat its activation shortcuts and capture locations as legacy guidance rather than a guarantee that the new version uses identical controls or paths.

- PC: the older support page lists U to activate Photo Mode and
%userprofile%DocumentsThe Witcher 3screenshotsfor screenshots. - PlayStation: it lists L3 + R3 to activate Photo Mode and Settings → Storage → System Storage → Capture Gallery → The Witcher 3 for captures.
- Xbox: it lists LS + RS to activate Photo Mode and Xbox button → Capture & share → Recent captures for captures.
- Switch 2: the Remastered patch notes confirm touch-screen input in Photo Mode, but the cited support page does not give a Switch 2 capture path. Use the console’s current capture gallery and consult current in-game or platform help if its menus differ.
Platforms, access, and upgrade context
The September 28, 2026 patch notes list Remastered for PC (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and Battle.net), PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2. They say earlier physical or digital purchasers can upgrade free within the same platform ecosystem. The launch announcement specifies eligible owners on GOG, Steam, Epic Games Store, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S, and says original Switch owners can upgrade free on Switch 2. Eligibility is platform-specific, so check the relevant store rather than assuming an entitlement transfers between ecosystems. The announcement says the Remastered package includes Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Remastered launched on September 29, 2026. Its expanded Photo Mode is part of the game feature set described in the patch notes; no separate Photo Mode purchase is identified there.
