Start with the trade-off that matters to you
There is no single best setting for every player. Treat lighting, image detail, and responsiveness as separate priorities, then choose the mode and features that suit your hardware and display. CD PROJEKT RED’s September 29, 2026 Remastered announcement lists PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 as supported platforms.

PC: tune image quality before adding costly features
Build a conventional baseline first
Choose an output resolution and quality level your PC can sustain, then check performance in a repeatable scene. The current CD PROJEKT RED PC requirements page, updated in October 2026, warns that performance varies with system configuration, graphics settings, and output resolution; higher resolution has a significant effect on FPS. It does not make one setting combination optimal for every PC.
For troubleshooting, change one demanding setting at a time and compare the same location and camera movement. This makes it easier to identify which change affects frame rate or image quality instead of guessing from several simultaneous adjustments.

Know what the Remastered PC features do to your choices
The Remastered change list adds Path Tracing and ray-traced HairWorks, alongside NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 with Ray Reconstruction, AMD FSR 4 with Frame Generation and Anti-Lag 2, and Intel XeSS 2.0 with Frame Generation and Low Latency. These are not interchangeable universal switches: check your GPU and driver compatibility before selecting a vendor-specific option. The notes state that FSR 4 is supported on Radeon RX 7000 Series and newer; unsupported GPUs use FSR 2 instead.
Use Path Tracing or other ray-traced effects when their lighting or rendering presentation is worth the performance cost to you, not because the highest setting is automatically best. Upscaling can help when rendering at a lower resolution than the output, but compare the resulting image in motion as well as in a still scene.

Frame Generation creates additional displayed frames; it does not remove the underlying rendering workload. Judge responsiveness as well as the FPS counter when deciding whether to use it, particularly in a game where camera movement and control feel matter.
Read official PC performance expectations carefully
CD PROJEKT RED’s published RT and Path Tracing performance figures use DLSS, FSR, or XeSS on Auto; other configurations use native resolution. The Path Tracing measurements additionally use upscaling and Frame Generation. Those are specific test conditions, not guaranteed results for every system, scene, or setting combination.

PlayStation 5: choose between lighting and resolution
According to the 2026 Remastered notes, Ray Tracing Mode now provides enhanced lighting while targeting 60 FPS. Performance Mode targets 60 FPS at higher resolution and can reach up to 90 FPS on VRR-capable displays. These are developer-described targets and support, not a guarantee of a particular frame rate in every area or on every television.
If enhanced lighting is your priority, begin with Ray Tracing Mode. If you prefer higher resolution and smoother motion, begin with Performance Mode, especially when using a VRR display. To compare fairly, load the same location in each mode and pan the camera at a similar speed; changing location and camera movement at once makes image and motion differences harder to judge.

PS5 Pro
The Remastered change list also specifies PSSR, VRR, and uncapped frame-rate support for PS5 Pro. The notes do not make those features a promise of a particular frame rate in every scene. A display must support VRR to benefit from that display feature.

CD PROJEKT RED’s December 2022 next-gen notes described Xbox Series X Ray Tracing Mode as targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode as targeting 60 FPS with dynamic resolution scaling. They described Series S as having no ray-tracing features at that time, with Quality Mode targeting 30 FPS and Performance Mode targeting 60 FPS. The September 2026 Remastered change list does not provide revised Xbox targets, so those older figures should not be presented as verified current Remastered behavior.

Use the current in-game mode labels as your guide, and compare the choices available on your own console. The available official notes do not establish a current numerical target for either Xbox model.
Nintendo Switch 2: choose a control style, not an assumed performance mode
The Remastered notes list Handheld, Pro Controller, Dual Grip, and Mouse Sensor playstyles. They also state that VRR is supported in handheld mode and HDR is supported. They do not state resolution or frame-rate targets for those playstyles, so the control choice should not be treated as a graphics-quality or FPS setting.
Why older next-gen settings advice may differ
The 2022 launch notes described PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X ray-tracing modes as using ray-traced global illumination and ambient occlusion with dynamic resolution targeting 30 FPS; Performance Mode targeted 60 FPS with dynamic resolution. The same launch-era notes said Series S had no ray-tracing features. Those figures explain older guidance, but the 2026 Remastered notes supersede the PlayStation mode description and do not confirm new Xbox targets.
On PC, the 2022 update introduced ULTRA+ controls for background character count, shadows, grass density, textures, foliage range, terrain, water, and detail, and added DLSS 3 support for compatible hardware. In February 2023, Patch 4.01 added a PC ray-traced global illumination performance mode described as prioritizing frame rate over range and precision. These are useful historical context, not proof that every current Remastered ray-tracing option has the same behavior.
A practical way to settle on your settings
- Identify your platform, PC GPU if applicable, output resolution, and whether your display supports VRR.
- Decide whether lighting, image resolution, or responsive motion is your first priority.
- Start with the matching console mode or a conventional PC configuration without Path Tracing.
- On PC, enable compatible upscaling or other demanding features one at a time; on console, compare the available modes in the same location.
- Keep a change only if the image or motion improves for you without an unacceptable loss in responsiveness or performance.
That process is more reliable than copying a “best settings” list without matching its platform, hardware, resolution, and display conditions.
