More than 450 Witcher 3 mods were newly released or updated in the first two days after Remastered launched on PC, according to PC Gamer’s Wes Fenlon on October 1, 2026. That is a snapshot of fast community activity—not an official compatibility count or proof that every mod works. CD PROJEKT RED says mods containing XML, script or w3strings files did not work when the update launched and may need to be updated through REDkit.
What the 450-mod count tells you—and what it doesn’t
Fenlon’s October 1 count covered mods newly released or updated since the PC launch on September 29. His report named familiar projects including The Witcher 3 Mod Manager, Fast Travel From Anywhere, Boat Races, No time for Gwent, Complete Animations Redux, Sort Everything, AutoLoot Advanced Settings, HUD Scaling Fix (All Aspect Ratios), Enhanced Camera, Hoods, New Clouds and Increased Creature Loot. These are examples from that report, not an official list of tested, working mods. PC Gamer’s October 1 report provides the date and author-reported count.
The useful takeaway is that mod authors began responding quickly. Whether a particular mod works depends on its files, whether its author has updated it for the Remastered build, and—on consoles—whether it is supported there. The count will also change as creators publish updates.
Why some older mods may fail
CD PROJEKT RED Support says mods containing XML files, script files or w3strings did not work upon the update’s release. The studio says REDkit includes a way to update such mods so they work again. That does not mean every mod has already been updated: check the mod’s own page and version notes for compatibility with the Remastered build. REDkit’s changelog lists tools relevant to mod creation, including script blobs that can allow scripts to run on consoles, new DLC mounters and fine-grained XML overrides. It also notes changes intended to make Gwent mods and new cards easier to create. These are tool capabilities, not a guarantee that a given mod is portable, compatible or approved for consoles. The REDkit changelog is the place to review those tool changes.
How to install a mod in the game
- Open The Witcher 3 Remastered and go to the Mods menu.
- Log in to your CD PROJEKT RED account and link it to mod.io when prompted.
- Find and subscribe to a mod. Check its description and version notes for Remastered compatibility before subscribing.
- Restart the game if prompted, then open the menu’s Installed section to check that the mod is present and enabled.
CD PROJEKT RED says script mods must be created through REDkit; textures, bundles and similar content can be made by other methods. Mod uploads are handled through mod.io. The exact installation options may depend on platform and on whether the creator has made the mod available there.

What console players and cross-progression users should check
In-game mod subscriptions sync through the linked account, but a subscription is not a promise that the same mod will work on every platform. Unsupported mods are ignored on a platform. For console use, look for the mod page’s Available on consoles tag.
Cross-progression has an additional constraint: CD PROJEKT RED says the same set of mods must be enabled on both platforms. If a mod is missing or incompatible on the target platform, the save may not load correctly. Modded console saves disable trophies and achievements. Check the studio’s official cross-platform mod instructions before moving a modded save between devices.

What happens to existing saves and skills?
Existing saves remain compatible with Remastered, according to CD PROJEKT RED’s FAQ. However, the skill-system overhaul resets skills, so expect to redistribute them after loading a save.
