The Witcher 4 is a single-player, open-world RPG starring Ciri and beginning a new Witcher saga. What platforms will The Witcher 4 be on?
The final launch-platform list has not been announced, and the reviewed official material does not provide PC system requirements. In June 2025, CD PROJEKT RED showed a technology demo running on PlayStation 5 and said the demonstrated technology would be supported across the platforms the game launches on. The studio is building the game with customized Unreal Engine 5 technology. Who is the main character?

What do we know about the story and characters?
The reveal trailer’s contract
The 2024 cinematic reveal shows a short scenario in which Ciri takes a witcher contract in a remote village terrorized by a monster. She intervenes as villagers prepare a young woman for ritual sacrifice. The studio says the story puts Ciri at odds with local prejudice and superstition and confronts her with the idea that “monsters come in all forms.” The trailer also shows Ciri using a chain and advanced magic powers. This is the setup of the reveal, not a full synopsis of the game.

What is confirmed about Geralt, Kelpie, and the wider cast?
Geralt is confirmed as Ciri’s adopted father, but the reviewed announcements do not say how much he appears in the game. Ciri’s horse Kelpie appears in the 2025 technology demo. No wider supporting cast or full story timeline has been confirmed in those materials.
What did the 2025 technology demo show?
The demo follows Ciri and Kelpie through Kovir to the port town of Valdrest. CD PROJEKT RED says Kovir will appear in the video game series for the first time in The Witcher 4. The studio reported that the demo ran on PlayStation 5 at 60 frames per second; that is a performance statement about the demo, not a final-game frame-rate target.

The reveal offers glimpses of Ciri’s chain and magic, but the reviewed announcements do not establish the finished combat system, progression, crafting, player-choice structure, or complete gameplay loop. A technology demonstration is not enough to confirm how those systems will work in the released game.

Do you need to play The Witcher 3 first?
No prerequisite has been announced. CD PROJEKT RED describes The Witcher 4 as the start of a new saga and as a successor to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, making the earlier game an optional way to catch up rather than a stated requirement. In its September 2, 2026 update, the company reported that The Witcher 3 had sold over 65 million copies and the series had surpassed 90 million copies worldwide.
